Why do americans consider 100k miles to be high mileage? Always found this weird on american car forums, 180k seems to be the mark where they consider a car "finished". Oil changes are a tad weird too, with people insisting you should get one done at 3k

Here any 4cyl shitbox does 500k+ without issues and people definitely don't baby them by changing the oil every month

You in aussie? In NZ boomers would shit their pants if you bought a car with more than 130k on the clock. I just bought a getz with like 300k and it runs fuckin mint. Sure, the engine mounts and suspension bushes were absolutely flogged, but the engine is all good, and there's no rust.
>>
>>29020827
No, but speaking of boomers, here they go insane if you rev a car over 3k, and I've had one tell me an engine should never go over 2.5k. Meanwhile I've been casually banging all my shitboxes off the limiter

The USA is a country where demolition derbies exist, Top Fuel dragster engines last literally seconds before engine failure, and American movies often feature the theme of "Car Fu" (Using an automobile as an Improvised Weapon).

Americans often don't respect their cars enough and enjoy destroying them, in my opinion.
>>
>>29020838
Lel how the fuck are they even real people aye? I've been told similar shit and it's always so bizarre.
>>
>>29020823
road salt. average person drives 10-15k miles a year. 7-10 years of road salt exposure is enough to start fucking up a car.
>>
>>29020823
Its because Americans are allergic to the suspension work and regular car maintenance that comes with a car with over 100k on it, theyll literally overpay for a used Honda with 80,000 miles or lose their ass on a new car payment for 84 million months, to avoid spending $1400 on 4 new struts for the car, or $800 on wishbones, or another $800 or so on brakes for both axles, that's how fucking stupid normal goyim are and they deserve to lose every penny.

>Why do Americans consider 100k miles to be high mileage?
Do they, though...? Most of the highest mileage cars I've seen are from The States, whereas most vehicles here sort of disappear around the 100,000 - 150,000 mark. Americans are know for driving considerably larger distances compared to most euro countries, so it stands to reason their cars would be higher mileage.
>>
>>29020867
The vehicles don't disappear, they are exported. Every vehicle that is imported to eastern europe has 100k-150k miles on it.
>>
>>29020875
But that's kind of what I mean by "disappear", they leave the roads of the market they were made for thanks to lack of interest, and get fucked off to third worlds by exporters. The high mileage trucks we've sold have always been bought by some wog that's exporting them to Sudan or wherever.

>>29020843
it explains why in my cunt they accelerate so slowly when the light goes green or on a highway on-ramp. can't let the engine get too loud or it'll probably blow up.

Wtf are you on about? Ameriqueers will drive their verge of exploding shitboxes into the millions before they admit high milage. Half of them do an hours commute to walmart every day.
>>
>>29020823
I put 50k km on my car in 8 months boomers are just retards
>>
>>29020843
they also seem to have an aversion to changing the oil in gearboxes, fuck if I know why, one of them, a mechanic to boot, tried to convince me he bought 'lifetime' oil, for an automatic BMW to boot. I wish him good luck
>>29020879
applying load at low RPM is more stressful on components than revving a warmed up car anyway, people are just dumb, at least modern ECUs will limit the amount of gas you can give an engine before 3k RPM (I think)
>>
>>29021036
Unless you have actually shredded your gears i wouldn't change the oil in there either.
>>
>>29020823
Boomers think 100K is a lot because back in their day, most engines only lasted around that long.
>>
>>29020823
I drive multiple vehicles with over 300k on them, they run fine so I just keep driving, I’ve put 100k on a vehicle from 2020, and I drive like 6 different vehicles, I’m basically non stop driving and I’m about to drive 8 hours straight today
>>
>>29020823
because the cars that sell the best here are usually gook or usa JUNK
>>
>>29020827
I just bought your whore mum
>>
>>29020879
IF I GIVE IT MORE GAS THE CAR JERKS AND DARQUARIOUS WILL CRY
>>
>>29020862
This, people will literally hem and haw over recommended services at shops, on their car that theyre paying hundreds of dollars a month just to keep, or they'll be crying that the repairs are more than their cars value, so they just buy something new to depreciate it all over again.
>>
>>29020823
It's also practically impossible to sell a car over 200k miles. I have a Tahoe with 430k just because I can't get rid of it. Works perfectly.
>>
Real talk, warranty usually only lasts 60k - 70k miles, so there's a fear of being left with expensive repairs. I myself have only ever had Hondas and they have all lasted well over 100k miles with nothing going wrong
>>
>>29021216
Man 8 hours is a long drive just to get your ass blown out by a dog.
>>
>>29020862
Nail on the head here. American women are particularly bad about this because they think every single mechanic is gonna rip them off.

I got another engine swap to do, I drove to Vegas to do a diesel conversion on a 60s jeep now I have another one to do on an XJ in Reno, lots of work to be done for people with the skills to do it (me)
>>
>but what about the americans?
>>
>>29020823
Where I am, rust would have eaten the car alive 20k miles ago
>>
>>29020823
>direct fuel injection
>EGR & other shit
>intake valves caked in carbon n shit
At 100,000 miles many of these vehicles need those valves media blasted or cleaned in some other method. That's pretty expensive.
>>
>>29020823
By comparison something with port side fuel injection keeps its valves clean with the gasoline being sprayed from behind.
>>
>>29021395
I mean most probably will.
I've yet to find a reputable local garage.
>>
>>29020839
This is fucking retarded logic
Have you ever been to a demo derby?
Those cars were generally not the pristine showroom floor car and they said yep im going to beat it with a sledgehammer
No, they went to a junkyard and said gimme a hunk of metal for about 500-1000 dollars with a working engine
>>
>>29021565
Define expensive
How much more expensive is it than a brand new car
>>
>>29021582
Oh it's way cheaper than a new car.
Maybe like $1k max? I'm sort of guessing idk
>>
>>29021590
Exactly.
Boomers will buy a car for 100k and pay it off fully after like 7 or 8 years yes im not kidding 96 month loans are a thing. And because it needs a new 4k transmission the cars fucked and unsalvagable and now i need another new 100k car
