What you see in this photograph are 3 (read: three) pedals. The leftmost one is called a clutch.
These 3 pedals are connected to 1 (read: one) thing: THE. DRIVER.
Sell your vehicle if it only has 2 (read: two) pedals or leave my board immediately.

Dead pedal makes 4 (four) in this photo

The middle pedal is the clutch

I currently drive stick and will probably not buy another one. I love rowing gears, but needing to change out the clutch after 120-150k mi is a huge expense that no one wants to make at that point in the car's life. It used to be you could replace the clutch for like 500 bux. I recently got quotes for 1500-2000 for parts and labor. So depending on how much and how hard you drive, say you're 10+ years into the car's lifespan and now you have to drop 2 grand on it?

No thanks. Also driving stick is fun up until it isn't and you're stuck in stop and go for an hour. dmg wrong I hate autotragic too, I'm hoping self driving cars come soon because I would much rather "drive" for fun than necessity

You needing to change out your clutch plates is a skill issue.
Bet you hold the clutch in at lights instead of changing to neutral and if you need to slow down you put the clutch in and hit the brakes because you are a fucking subhuman.
Disgusting behaviour.

Manuals are European cope and seethe.

Why is my American car a manual?
>>
>>29020855
If you or anyone else thinks they're special for being able to operate a car with a synchronised transmission, you should really go out and touch grass.
>>
>>29020906
my current manual car was my first car ever, and I did do many of these things initially (first ~100 hours maybe) but I quickly learned. I pop it in neuch at the lights and always try to keep it in gear. I never coast with the clutch pedal pressed.

You know interestingly enough in Canada if you take the drive test you _have_ to keep the car in 1st and the clutch pedal down at lights as part of a safety rule - they want you to be able to move ASAP if needed.

anyways you can believe me or not, I've babied the car and burned the clutch only a handful of times during its very long 15+ year life. imo clutches are absolutely a wear and tear part like your brakes are and being really skilled with it will save you for awhile but id be surprised if any really high mileage cars can avoid replacing it.

My cars 10 years old and still on the original clutch plates at 500bhp its a skill issue you should buy an auto

I will be doing neither, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

my car is 17 years old and my clutch plate seems fine but my throwout bearing might be on its last legs. no point in arguing this with you though, have a nice day
>>
My automatic BMW has 3 pedals :)

>imo clutches are absolutely a wear and tear part
They are. Everything that touches the power train eventually needs replacement. People just like the ease of replacing the clutch plate and that's it. Also anything requiring more than a YouTube video to work on is voodoo sorcery and not to be trusted.

I'm pretty sure the cost of changing gear oil (which is simple like changing engine oil) and replacing a clutch every 150k miles is cheaper than maintaining a modern day automatic over the life of the vehicle. Just admit that you're a fag
>>
>>29020855
whew good thing both of my cars have parking brake pedals
>>
>>29020905
? As if automatic transmissions don't require maintenance that is usually more complex and expensive than just replacing a clutch plate.
>muh stop and go traffic hard with manual
You are weak and pathetic, take the bus if you want to not have to drive so bad
>>
>>29020914
nothing to do with being special. its just the correct way to operate a car.
same goes for the placement of the engine (should be in the front) and the driving wheels (should be the rear ones).
anything else is garbage hipster junk

cool story bro

i 90% agree with you, but why a G Wagon need a manual trans
or other luxury cars you intend to “grand tour” in
also when i used my Prius for work a manual trans would had made work more difficult and annoying
>>
>>29020855
same thing when i got my crosstrek to dwell in and use for work (deliveries)
you’re constantly juggling your phone it just would make it a nightmare
>>
>>29020855
If they're connected to the driver exclusively, how are they staying on the car?
>>
Manual trannies are beloved solely by the holy trifecta of neutered males: teenage boys, 30-something year old losers, and eurotrash. All males desperate to feel like men so they pride themselves on fiddling with their little sticks. I sensed your cortisol spike as you read this. Ask yourself why you're feeling this way.

wtf??? my vehicle the clutch is on a hand lever.....

Fucking peon.

BTW.
What your familiar with is just one layout.

after riding a bike for 999 years i honestly wonder why chain drive and derailleurs with a ratcheting hub arent used on automobiles. its like the one thing in cycling that isn't complete mechanical nonsense and actually Just Werks
>>
>>29021674
Go back to your containment thread bikeposter, you still only have 2 pedals
>>
>>29021791
i only have two feet ??!!
>>
>>29020905
A clutch is a huge expense?
>>
>>29020855
Not that I disagree with you but another fucking BMW shill faggot I'm tired of all these brownpostings.
>>
>>29020855
The left most is the dead peddle. Some rigs around here have five peddles.
>>
>>29021680
They are an absolute trip to drive. Once you get it into high gear it gets pretty comfy. The hand brake will also pull the left peddle to neutral while applying the brakes.
