I had to get the brass spacer because my plastic oil pan has a recessed bolt. I decided to give the fumoto a try because the people who do have one like it and those who hate it have never used one. I don't have to worry about cracking my oil pan, over torquing the bolt causing the brass insert to spin in the plastic, and I simply didn't see any downside. Granted, I've only done 1 oil change with it (last week), but it was just easier. I pushed on some old fuel tubing and inserted it into an oil used oil jug. Turned the valve and filled the jug. Stopped the valve and inserted into another empty jug because my engine uses 5.7 quarts. I used the cheap oil pan to catch drips from the oil filter, but could've used a medium piece of cardboard for the drips. The valve itself only had a little road dust on it, but I slipped a 3" piece of fuel tubing with a bolt in the other end as a cover. I'm still debating if that's necessary or if the bolt is too much.4.5/5 stars on the fumoto valve: it felt a bit slower to drain, but it was a Saturday afternoon anyway and I wasn't in a rush. Much cleaner process since I only needed to clean out that fuel tubing and drips from the oil filter in the pan. The $45 I spent will never be recouped by not needing to buy brake cleaner or blue towels for each oil change, but it was convenient and cleaner in general.
