My panther is rusty and becoming a maintenance pig. There’s a dealer not far from here with a caprice he’s asking way too much for. How do I walk in there and bring his price down?
You're a filthy jeet aren't you?
>>29025620this car is so fucking attractive. I want one so bad. god damn.
>>29025623White as fuck broski
>>29025624It’s not the look so much as maintenance is easy and goes sideways in winter. They don’t make them like this anymore.
>>29025620Dealers don't bring prices down anymore, consider yourself lucky if the dealer cuts you some slack on dealer fees and '''adjustments''' so you're only paying a bit more than what they're asking. They'll probably only even do that if you take their financing at rates that are likely against usury laws in many places since that's how they make money nowadays, too.Find one for sale by owner instead.
>>29025638It’s a 91 taking up space on his lot surely he can be talked down a bit. I know it’s a reliable beater and I guess he knows it too, but can’t we be reasonable on a 91!! I can get clapped panthers for cheaper and the cars are a lot newer, yes they need work, but I bet this caprice still does too! I’m just frustrated dude
>>29025693you know how many nogs want this to put on 24s. he will keep the price high for that reason alone.
If it doesn't have the LT1 5.7 in it then it's significantly less in value. You can use that as a negotiating tactic. The B/D body chebbys from the 90s were goated cars in so many ways.
>>29025699We have some token blacks around here and they aren’t bad, probably different in the city. The Indians though… holy cow! they are everywhere!
>>29025704It has a 5 liter in the add. Haven’t looked at the car at all yet.
>>29025620that thing is ugly as fuck just get a corolla and call it a day goddamn
>>29025620>How do I walk in there and bring his price down? You don't go in there and "bring his price down", you go in there and know what you're willing to pay out-the-door as you've determined a value compared to other offerings available. If the dealer won't match what you're willing to pay then you walk and buy one of those other offerings. The dealer is going to have some idea of what his sucker traffic is like so he may not give you any room to work with since he knows a sucker will come along, but he may turn you into the sucker if you're not prepared. If you try to "bring his price down" he may have you haggling for hours on the asking price, bringing out different finance options to muddy the water and take up your time, and then once you have reached "victory" and are completely worn down and deep into sunk cost fallacy he brings out the extra charges and the lowball on your trade-in and you end up agreeing to it all and paying thousands more for a car that's worse than what you could've found private party.Going in prepared to walk is the only way to go.You say he's "asking way too much." Compared to what? Other Caprices available? If he's asking too much compared to them why are you there at his dealership instead of buying one of those other ones?Do you see how just being there is an admission to him that his asking price is *not* too high? That you have picked out *his* one says you have a preference for it, and this puts him in the driver's seat. How you get around this is you DON'T anchor on this car, you pick out a bunch of possibilities of which his is just one option which is easily passed over when he hits you with an OTD price higher than any of a dozen ES 350's in your area. You don't go in there as though you both have a goal of "meeting in the middle." You go in there knowing that you're an independent adult with a price and that he's an independent adult with a price AND THAT THESE MAY NOT MATCH.
>>29025704The dealer knows exactly what he has. Thinking he's too stupid to be able to price what he has just shows him you're too stupid to know how this all works, and he's going to play you like Trump plays the Republican base.
>>29025722>like Trump plays the Republican base.Remind me, was it the RNC or DNC that didn't run a primary last election you retarded stooge?
>>29025720I’m willing to walk out, bring my number and shoot my shot, sounds good. Not a lot of these for sale in my neck of the woods but there are equivalents. Anything to improve my odds helps and an argument on age and desirability might help. Usually I buy stuff from auctions and it’s a pleasant experience.
>>29025620sexo!
>>29025716I love Toyota, the Corolla is an amazing commuter, just not fun enough for me. I like sideways slow drifts in winter and the fwd is not going to cut it.
>>29025742So much sexo!
>>29025731>"That they brought out a slate of their best con men and I picked the slickest means that there's no way I was fooled!"
>>29025620First things first. There were significant changes in 1995.Although there are less of these available, post 1995 Caprice offers the better styling and engine.1. Check the trunk lid. There should be a white SPID (Service Parts Identification) sticker.Police Package is code 9C1 (if you're lucky enough)5.7L Corvette-derived V8 is code LT1Yes, the earlier Caprice (1991 to 1995) had much higher production rate, so it's likely that the dealer has one of these.Engines were still ok.Nice smallblock V8s1991–1993 5.0 L/305 cu in L03 Small-Block V8 170 hp (127 kW) 255 lb⋅ft (346 N⋅m) TBI single std, sedan1991 5.7 L/350 cu in L05 Small-Block V8 195 hp (145 kW) 295 lb⋅ft (400 N⋅m) TBI single police
>>29025620>he’s asking way too much forhow much? what's with the secrecy?
>>29025788>how much? what's with the secrecy?Retards like this OP make this a painful exercise.Anyway, I've decided that I'll look for one, with the LT1.OP can eat dick.I put it some effort to makehttps://i.4cdn.org/o/1784490296607642.mp4
>>29025620the plan: you make an extremely low offerwait 5-7 business days, hire a handful of professional actorssend each one in over many days, making increasingly lower offers than your initial onethe salesman will call you eventually, pleading and begging
>>29025741>an argument on age and desirability might help.It really doesn't since you're there looking at it. You are proof that it has desirability, and the dealer is not going to be ignorant that the Caprice has a bit of a following.Story time:I had a set of winter wheels and tires for sale. I posted good pictures and mentioned the few small scratches with the rims, pointed out that two tires were trashed but I did have one new one as a replacement (and another could be had on Amazon for $100), and then asked $300.A guy called up, said he had a 5 series they would work for, and wanted to take a look. He drove from 40 minutes away. After chatting with him for a bit and him having a look at them, he said, "$200?" I said no, $300. What leverage could he ever have made with any argument after driving 40 minutes for them knowing my asking price? I priced them well to start and he obviously drove over willing to pay it. Negging them would never work because... why are you still trying to buy them if they're so bad?Any argument as to some lack of desirability is contradicted by your interest. Unless you can bring up something new that isn't already priced in you just have no argument that the price should be adjusted for it. Pointing out that it's not in showroom new condition when it's not priced anywhere near MSRP is just wasting everybody's time.
>>29025814>Any argument as to some lack of desirability is contradicted by your interest.Sure, but it does not change the Economics of owning a 4th gen Caprice, which could be as old as 35 years.OP has failed to provide the necessary details:1. Mileage2. Maintenance historySo we do not know what the possible costs of ownership may be.
>>29025716He isnt trying to buy the ugliest car he can find tho
>>29025620If it's a private seller. Be upfront, walk in, let him know you're interested but you're not prepared to pay his number but you'd like to take a look at the car anyway. He'll let you poke around hoping to convert. Thank him for your time, give him your number and ask him to call of he's prepared to haggle down. Visit several other dealers in the area (dealers talk). Call your local tax authority as a whistleblower/disgruntled employee. Let them know that he's got cars that are off the books and that he sells them under the table for cash to avoid taxes and that he also misrepresents cars for insurance purposes. Most private dealers keep old imventory off the books they can double as parts. When he gets word of a tax audit he'll call, if he's dodgy he'll look for a cash sale before running, if he's legit he'll push the sale so he can demonstrate recent history to help keep the man of his back.
