>be lincoln
>put half of a clock on the trunklid
What did they mean by this?
>>
It's a styling callback to days when men could replace a tire on the side of the road. Not like you'd ever understand pussyboy

damn, never seen that kit before.
what a massive amount of wasted space...
looks like the stern of boat.
>>
>>29027723
>>29027738
>>29027739
why would they put the spare tire right where it's in the way of accessing things in the trunk?
>>
>>29027765
It's called a continental kit, the whole point is to have a spare wheel without removing any trunk space whatsoever

And those are themselves callbacks to an even earlier time
>>
>>29027867
Ya I was going to keep going backwards but got finished taking a shit and moved on with my day.
>>29027759
>wasted space
Its space that is normally air.

>drive'd to drinkin'

>clock cut in half
Its pottery.
>>
>>29027728
You created this society boomer.
>>
>>29027889
Son you’re gonna drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop driving that
Hot.
Rod.
Lincoln.
>>
>>29027738
How common were punctured tires back then that the spare is the easiest thing to access in the trunk?
>>
>>29027738
That is not actually a spare wheel/tire. It is a decorative 5th wheel.
>>
>>29028223

Even the richer neighborhoods used to have a fair amount of debris around. Also the idea of calling a company to come change out your tire was ridiculous. If you were at the level where tire changing was below you, jeebs would be on it without question.
>>
>>29028230
>decorative fifth wheel
That explains the lack of hi-temp grease on it.
>>
>>29028333
I see what you did there. ;P
>>
>>29028204
I'm not a boomer you pathetic excuse making loser.

You aint stupid bitch, you know it take two. You aint innocent.
>>
>>
>>29028230
Nope.
Thats the spare tire.
The shell unlatches.
>>
>>29028512
Even OP is still a real spare

There are "fake" kits but theyre actually rarer than the real ones.
Here's one with only a partial shell so the owner can show off the wide white spare.
>>
>>29028223
you have to remember that inner tubes were the standard into the mid fifties, they were not nearly as robust
>>
>>29028223
"White wall" tires were actually white canvas with rubber impregnated for the tread. The look carried over to tires made with vulcanized rubber (turned black from heating) and they added the white color to mimic earlier designs.
Bias ply tires used polyester or nylon cords.
What you think of as "a tire", specifically Steel Belted Radials, was first patented in 1946 and it was a a long process to phase out bias ply, into the 70s actually.

So tire punctures were extremely common. So much so that it was common to carry multiple spares.

Top kek.

>>
>>29028646
Bias ply were common even after that, they didn't really fall into pure classics obscurity until the 90s
>>
>>29027723
I want to buy one and put a clock mechanism in it and just put the numbers from 9 to 3
>>
>>29028515
The 70s lincolns just did it just for looks, they actually mounted on the "shelf" of the trunk like any other full size ford of the time
>>
>>29028515
>>29028519
Holy shit what a retarded design. Makes getting anything into and out of the trunk a major pain in the ass. Wonder how many people smoked their knees/chins off the tire bulge out.
>>
>>29028832
You're a ricelet and a wrencher faggot
>>
>>29028847
Sorry I just like putting items in my trunk with ease bruh.
>>
>>29027728
What's there to understand about pussyboy?
