Europoor here. Is a used twongi (picrel) worth it as a first car?I'm looking out for something compact that wouldn't be a money pit (so a smart fortwo wouldnt fit the bill)I am also long overdue to learn my way around an engine, I would love to learn how to perform basic maintenance and repairs. The fewer sensors I have to deal with, the better.talk me out of it, /o/
>>29029452It's good. Look for Dacia Sandero or Logan, they're also piss easy to work on and you can search on YouTube guides to change an air filter, do an oil change, all that good stuff.
>>29029456the 2008 Sandero could work. Sadly my parking space is pretty limited, Logan might already be too much.
>>29029452If it's a 16V, look at the engine. If it looks like pic related, it has the ECU on the back of the airbox above the exhaust manifold and the PCV system sucks, ideally you want the other version with the big cover and no writing on it.I've owned one for 6 years now, the only parts that let me down were the crank sensor (a 10 minute fix, tops), the passenger window mechanism, and the clutch (which I knew wasn't great when I bought it).Air filter is piss easy, oil change is piss easy, there's a few annoying packaging things here and there (steering rack boots are nearly impossible to get to) and some very French engineering solutions (what the fuck is that driver's side inner CV joint) but overall it's a very simple car to work on.
>>29029488thank you, the listings I have at hand ( 100k miles ) should be the non-16v 1.2 models
Why would you even consider this over a golf 3
>>29029501The 8Vs are a little slower (although not much, the 16Vs all have laggy drive-by-wire throttles) and a little more spacious in the engine bay. Both are pretty bulletproof engine-wise.They can get a little confusing when it comes to buying parts though, because they were made for so long and received so many updates. For example the versions with AC don't just have the AC bits added on, they have completely different wiring harnesses, coolant hoses, radiators, and even dashboards.Partsouq.com has been extremely helpful for finding the right part numbers.
>>29029510why not a Lupo?
>>29029516merci anon, I feel a lot more confident going in
>>29029452>Is a used twongi (picrel) worth it as a first car?if you are a true europoor, then yes 100%
1st gen Ford Ka
>>29029568If there's anything more you'd like to know, I spend too much time on here so just ask.
>>29029581shut the fuck up, go kneel somewhere. >>29029463sandero is cool, great beater car. I had a Logan as my first car, a 2006 one with 240k km. I drove it another 120k with zero issues. Getting a car is easy, maintaining it is the difficult part.
>>29029528the lupo is a purpose built exotic econo shit box with rare parts and a weak gearbox. The golf 3 is mass produced and bullet proof, junk yard parts are plentiful and cheap. and the golf 3 gl can fit 2 55 galon barrels in the rear, show me another wagon that can do that
>>29029602what a shame. I did hear about the gearbox, the GTI looked very fun.
>>29029587that anon loves to snort rust particles 24/7
>>29029602>lupo>exotic >rare partswat.do you live in fucking australia
>>29029666Most Lupo parts are exclusive to it, especially the special versions like the 3L or GTI, whereas something like a Polo or Golf shares tons of stuff with a bunch of other cars.
>>29029755regular Lupos are just SWB Polos muy guyAnd that made them a bit too expensive for the segment, which is why most of them are real poverty spec, no ABS or power steering
>>29029757>SWB Pologo on...
>>29029755Seat also built the Lupo as Arosa. Nearly identical cars
>>29029757>no power steeringIf you NEED power steering in a tiny sub 1 ton car like this you might want to rethink your daily soi intake
The Twingo love in this thread warms my heart. Absolute classic of a car. Easy af to maintain or fix, lots of fan and tuning communities, extremely reliable. The only alternative I can offer is the Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107 which are basically the same car besides a few things. Excellent reliability, cheap, easy to find parts (99% of them interchangeable over 3 different car models). The petrol 1.0 of course, not that 1.4 hdi crap
>>29029898Surprised to see this much vitriol for the diesel HDI engine, is it that bad?In yurop diesel works out a bit cheaper per liter
>>29030013>Surprised to see this much vitriol for the diesel HDI engine, is it that bad?>In yurop diesel works out a bit cheaper per liternta, it isn't even that bad but the 1.0 petrol is pretty much bulletproof in comparisonDiesel barely makes sense in Europe on top, even more so in small cars, more complexity/higher maintenance costs for relatively low fuel savings, and if you wanted to really save on gas you can slap on an LPG system which the 1.0 petrol engine works pretty good with
>>29030013>In yurop diesel works out a bit cheaper per liternot on small carsAnd the Daihatsu 1.0 is the best, arguably only good part of the car
>>29029602Golf 3 has gearbox issues
>>29030897Put a D4FT or K4M in it
>>29029452Go for it anon, bitches love the twongster.
>>29031261Any last tips as to what I need to look out for, before I go test this used one?
twingo is a memethey are getting old and rusty/crumblyand they lack basic safety featureslook at a daihatsu cuoreits a kei car that they put a 1 liter in and sold in EUdaihatsu sirion also is small but has actual airbags n shitthe 107/C1/Aygo triplets also known as the City Bug are a good choice as well
>>29032259Cuores are barely newer and just as much of a tin can.
>>29032262twingo launched 93, last get cuore 06almost 15 year difference isnt "barely newer" fucking niggerhow can you advise op get a twingo that will result in him loosing his legs in what would otherwise be a fender bender
>>29032269And the last Twingo rolled off the line in 2007, after a bunch of updates, which did include extra reinforcement. 2001+ Twingos are not the same as pre-2000s ones.
>>29032280okay, but that does not invalidate my point
>>29032259This guy is rightGet yourself a reliable Japanese box instead of an overhyped meme that stayed in production for 5 years too many
>>29029452Maybe 10 years ago, but now they're all old and beat to shit and falling apartThey're also horribly outdated, built like shit, noisy on the highway
>>29032498
>>29029456>Dacia Sandero or Loganthis. i can sleep in my logan ffs. it's a great car
What about a 1st gen Toyota Yaris?
>>29033233yeah that shit's str8 nizzyripping the handbrake on grass slipping that computer mouse like it's akira leaving motorcycle profile skids, foot to the floor everywhere you go feeling the engine strain against the incline of the road like it's happy wheels 10/10 best poverty Martcart
>>29033233I've rented one, it would be a twenty year old rental car by now.
