Is a used twongi (picrel) worth it as a first car?I'm looking out for something compact that wouldn't be a money pit (so a smart fortwo wouldnt fit the bill)I am also long overdue to learn my way around an engine, I would love to learn how to perform basic maintenance and repairs. If it looks like pic related, it has the ECU on the back of the airbox above the exhaust manifold and the PCV system sucks, ideally you want the other version with the big cover and no writing on it.I've owned one for 6 years now, the only parts that let me down were the crank sensor (a 10 minute fix, tops), the passenger window mechanism, and the clutch (which I knew wasn't great when I bought it).Air filter is piss easy, oil change is piss easy, there's a few annoying packaging things here and there (steering rack boots are nearly impossible to get to) and some very French engineering solutions (what the fuck is that driver's side inner CV joint) but overall it's a very simple car to work on.

The Twingo love in this thread warms my heart. Absolute classic of a car. Easy af to maintain or fix, lots of fan and tuning communities, extremely reliable.The only alternative I can offer is the Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107 which are basically the same car besides a few things. Excellent reliability, cheap, easy to find parts (99% of them interchangeable over 3 different car models). The petrol 1.0 of course, not that 1.4 hdi crap
