6.2L engine explores all the time
manufacturer blames "muh machining dust" so they don't have to admit to producing a defective design

Y'all shit on Kia, but at least they are not STILL making a defective engine with no fix in sight and just refusing to admit they did anything wrong.

Too fine tolerances, too light oil. Many such cases
>>
>>29033195
I don't think it's the oil
The 6.2 engine is not exactly new there's no reason for it to be so shit
I've heard with the 3.4 the bearings were under-specified for fuel economy purposes and can spin out easily.

Sorry mate, I'm sticking to my Dacia Sandero shitbox.

>>29033201
I've heard of recalls to replace oil with higher viscosity, I think Chevy. 0w-20 is too light.

Needed larger main bearings and 5W-35.

It's GM. Enough said.

KIA and Hyundai had exploding engines for like 10 years anon.
Doesn't matter how many times you change the oil those theta engines would spin bearings
>>
>>29033178

actually yes they are

the v6s also yank the threads out of the headstuds and blow headgaskets and spin bearings

it does happen to AFM lifter equipped ones

All LT based 6.2L have AFM.

DCT transmissions blow all the time. Multiple class action lawsuits and recalls over the years. They decided to go back to regular slushboxes this year because after over a decade, they couldn't make a DCT with an acceptable failure rate.

You put could 5w-40 in a new toyota tundra and it'll still explode. It's baffling how /o/ has no idea how cars work besides putting oil in and thinking oil is the solution to every problem.

I bought a new Tundra It's a blast!

Funny since subaru had to go to Toyota just to get the forester and crosstrek's hybridized
>>

and the reviews of the hybrids are crap, they barely add any power and the batteries are tiny, they are stupid, subaru needs to try harder or it will become suzuki

Don't pretend like toyotas arent oil burning head gasket blowing POS for multiple generations since the 80s. I mean doesnt one of the 2000s engines warp the head so bad it actually pulls a head bolt out of the block? from the worlds most money making car company? Pathetic

nta but I owned an '06 RAV4 which had the 2AZ-FE 2.4L engine. That thing guzzled oil and Toyota refused to issue a recall. They'd fight tooth and nail to deny a consumption test, and even if your engine consumed "too much" oil they'd just replace the piston rings - not your engine, cat, valves, etc.

But then they make stuff like the 4.0L 1GR-FE which gets 500,000 miles on stock internals, original water pump, no change of the timing chain, etc.

They seem to either smash it out of the park or foist a horrendous turd upon their customers. There is no middle ground. All they make is turbocuck shit now so they've lost me as a customer for good. If I buy a truck it'll probably just be an old restored one at this point. I'll take my chances with vacuum lines.
>>
>>29035099
Toyota has been supposed to release a new (I don't know if its actually a clean sheet design but its at least heavily revised) 2 liter 4 turbo to go in lots of stuff
both the 2.5 NA and the 2.4T version have been widely criticized in the press for being rough and underpowered relative to the competition

they are most certainly testing it for use in the next GR products but it's unclear when it will diffuse into the broader lineup

I don't want anything with fewer than 6 cylinders and nothing with a turbo. I understand they get bullied by regulators and eco-fags about MPGs and CAFE shit but companies are still producing proper V8s and V6s, look at the Frontier. That thing rightfully eats the Tacos lunch at this point and if I needed a midsize truck it'd be the only viable choice anymore (I'm white so I can't legally own a Nissan).
>>
>>29035101
>With the initial concept, we sought to make the engine smaller by looking at aspects such as the bore/stroke ratio (the ratio between a piston’s diameter and the distance it travels), but we’ve also challenged ourselves to shave millimeters from the dimensions of various parts, while trying to strike a balance with reliability.
Quote directly from head engineer on the project
Translation: They're working hard to chintz it as much as possible.

>>29035091
>and the reviews of the hybrids are crap, they barely add any power and the batteries are tiny, they are stupid
Gasoline cars are way less efficient from a stop than at speed.
Sometimes hybrids are used to make it so a model will pass emissions and mileage regulations without having to downgrade the engine itself.
Engine charges the battery, which is used in stop-and-go and the engine charges the battery a little at speed.
I don't know about whatever Subaru you're talking about, but you're being stupid for thinking that they'd put a hybrid in an economy car for the purpose of making moar powah.
>>
>>29035137
>I don't know about whatever Subaru you're talking about
the forester hybrid is barely faster than the gas-only version
the kia hybrids are mostly faster than the gas versions, ditto over at toyota, the prius smokes a forester despite the forester having an extra half liter of displacement

Pick both

I walked past a newer Kia Sportage today. It was idling and sounded like the engine was already gone to shit.
How fucking awful are these engines that they can't even idle correctly when they are practically brand new?
>>
>>29035343
It's just a coarse engine. I dunno what sounds you heard, maybe that one had something wrong with it, but it's not especially smooth or powerful, except at very high revs. You don't buy a Kia to go fast, tho I will say it did find racing through hills on the highway today. I also have it on chunky tires which don't like going 80mph or more ever. I bet it might actually be somewhat fun on performance tires, but the steering is numb. Though it's way less overboosted than the crappy VW steering on my family's VW suv. Which is a shame cuz the rack on the Jetta and the A4's I had were great.
>>
Forget engines, Kiyundai can't even make gas tanks right.

sounds like ot needs a port and polish, just pour a bag of sandblasting sand into the intake.
>>

Kia engines just sound like shit because they're falling apart from the factory. Look up all the shit about the Theta failures. The newer smart stream engines are the same basic architecture, with the same problems.
