This shit is 40k leafbux for a manual awd daily. Why shouldn't I do it
looks worse than the older ones
>>29034113>40k leafbuxI personally wouldn't spend this much on any car. You could buy a faster used car for a quarter of the price.
>>29034113Because you can get a nice C6 Vette for less that will only appreciate. The Vette is an infinitely better drivers car and is just as practical. Don't kid yourself. You won't be using the back seats or the rear doors.
>>29034114i know looks alright in person in black though>>29034115>>29034118>dailywe have snow here niggas I already have summer cars
>>29034120why do you need AWD for snow. you can't use snow tires?
>>29034120Post your province. inb4 Ontarindia. If you need a winter vehicle why are you looking at something with 3'' of ground clearance and wide rubber band tires?
>>29034113i don't know, so whatever you say, i'll just make you feel validated instead. go for it anon. good choice, hope you enjoy it. spark plugs may be a bitch to change but it'll be worth it
>>29034118this board can't comprehend not everyone is interested in this boomer/hairdresser car no matter if it has 1000hp and some burgerking record
>>29034123>>29034125manitoba
>>29034130A WRX would be about the absolute worst choice for a Methtoba vehicle.
>>29034113New car depreciation, or used Subaru maintenance rouletteGiant laggy ipad dash.Brake lights look like previous gen Honda Civic.I got one though. Fun car but also practical.
>>29034113buy a Dacia Logan instead and keep the rest of the money for an actual hobby if you don't like cars because it seems you're not into them.
>>29034132>>29034136you faggots are even more retarded than me here
Did so a few years ago, you can make it go faster when you get bored of the hesitant emissions compliant 1st and 2nd gear default tune if you can handle a warranty delete.
>>29034137m9, you want to buy a basedbaru and we're the retarded one? kek, the audacity.
>>29034114The old ones are ugly as fuck, new looks ok.
>>29034113After buying one new in 2016 and putting 150k miles on it, here are a few reasons:1 - The paint finish is garbage. Clear coat is so thin that buffing/polishing is virtually impossible. If you want it to stay shiny, wax it immediately and keep on top of the waxing. Or ceramic coating.2 - The seats are ridiculously tiny. I'm not a massive guy (5'11" & 190 pounds) and the side bolsters on the driver's seat are underneath my thighs instead of outside them. The seat was clearly made either for women or for little tiny asian men. At this point though, those bolsters have been squished flat so they're no longer creating uncomfortable pressure points on the back of my legs, so this problem did eventually go away.3 - The interior feels cheap. Not as in poor workmanship... it's all solid, nothing is falling apart, it's not noisy. It just feels cheap. Like cheap materials.Other than those things, it's a pretty decent car. Tons of grip, great handling, decently quick. A fun car to drive. It's also fairly dependable, in the 10 years I've had it I've only had to do maintenance stuff like fluids, filters, brake pads, battery, tires. Nothing has ever broken or failed. So yeah, great car if you can deal with the negatives I mentioned above.
>why yes, i do feel the need to pay more money for a base model with a less efficient and useless drivetrain that has twice the maintenance and twice the vectors for failureIncredible stuff op, keep us posted on this emerging story
im waiting to see what happens with the sti tranny (lol) thing thats been revealed for japan. seems subaru is cooking something for next year. also would like a VB facelift with the new outback's infotainment to lose the giant laggy screen
>>29034118>a nice C6 Vette for lessNot that great as a daily in Canada imho.OP just can't take vacation for the entirety of winter.Great spring + summer car though, as long as he doesn't have kids.
>>29034113>40KHell nah.Just get a decent Jeep XJ, then dump 5K into upgrades and comforts.Don't waste money right now bro.
amazing how people who live in large metropolitan areas where it sometimes snows think they are in some kind of isolated extreme environment where a fuckin open differential all season tired awd shitbox is going to make some wild difference lmfao>NAH DUDE IT SNOWS WHERE I LIVEyeah it snows on half of the northern hemisphere
>>29034436>just wait for another massive recession or global pandemic brothe austere mind
>>29034449>the austere mindTop kek.Chalk it up to the last 25 years of Shell Shock.
>>29034441It’s pretty funny THOUGHIt’s also funny how some random cute chick can drive a LOW, MODIFIED car, in the SNOW no lessBut these “car enthusiasts” NEED their gay-wheel drive LOL
>>29034480A LOW, MODIFIED, *REAL-wheel drive car
>>29034114The old WRX looks like a corolla or some other econobox The cladding on the current makes it look distinctive
>>29034489The hilarious plastic cladding makes it look distinctly cheap and ugly
>>29034493Wrx have always been cheap and ugly looking, at least this one has the form that matches the function (rally car)
>>29034113You should 100% do it. They are purpose built to be drivers cars and everyone I know who has one is in love with it
>>29034500They’re literally too slow to daily Do you only know faggy IT nerds?
>>29034480right wheel drive and woman driven ... still making it work with ease ... will subaru ricers ever recover I wonder ...
>>29034489The stupid polygonal cladding is specifically the thing that I think makes it look like shit
>>29034505>They’re literally too slow to dailyPure ignorance. Average 0-60 for new cars is like 7.5 seconds. Manual version of the current wrx does it in 5.5 seconds. And it's only that high because you have to shift to 3rd just before hitting 60, making it seem comparatively high versus similar cars which happen to be able to hit 60 before the top of 2nd. In reality it accelerates as hard as a car with a 5.0s 0-60 time which is plenty fast, especially for a daily driver. Most daily drivers on the road are considerably slower than this car.
>>29034561If you've ever had a faster car you'd know it's pretty weak sauce out of the box. Stock for stock my mustang GT (17 s550 with the vuvuzela sound pipe) was far more exciting than the VB wrx, and that's not helped by the thing being sold detuned for emissions/reliability purposes. It responds well to tuning but that's largely just an indicator of how dogshit the factory tune is. That said, you can get an accessport, intake, and make your car sound like darth vader whacking off.
>>29034608Of course there are faster cars, I'm not denying that. Just pointing out that "too slow to daily" is kind of absurd thing to say. It's plenty fast compared to most cars on the road, and on top of that, I've found that the most fun is had with something you can blast through turns in rather than accelerates like a rocket, and this thing has cornering grip by the truckload.
>>29034608I've had a modded STi, but an S550 GT being faster doesn't surprise me at all. Subarus haven't been faster than GTs in 15 years or so.
>>29034649sure, it's also /o/ where everyone trolls, benchraces, busrides, or seethes if someone actually has a car. I just like that it's pretty easy to DIY work on the vb, and even the stupid plugs aren't that bad once you've done it once.
>>29034718no one asked you, taco nigger
>>29034113if you can find a 2018-2021 STI in decent condition it would be a better value, otherwise I would wait/save up until next year in case they bring back the STI, unless you really need a car now
>>29034866>Waiting for a car after the driver-focused camera mandate
>>29034113because the GRC exists and its better in every single way
>>29034433Winter tires are a thing... I see ZR1's with winter tires driving out in the snow pretty often. Like I said before the WRX is an almost equally bad winter vehicle. >>29034561>Manual version of the current wrx does it in 5.5 secondsA press vehicle with a press driver might get close to that time but in the real world that's going to be closer to 8+ seconds for a 0-60.
>>29035000>A press vehicle with a press driver might get close to that time but in the real world that's going to be closer to 8+ seconds for a 0-60.
>>29035009Are you doing redline clutch dumps and redline shifts at every green light? I don't fucking think so. You're going to short shift at 2k rpm like every wrxfag out there.
>>29034866>18-21 STiI disagree as someone who owns a 2016. The EJ is that bad imo. FA24 in comparison worst they get is timing cover/valve cover gasket leaks after 60-80k miles which is damn near a engine out job because its the whole timing cover and if it leaks into the spark plug coils it'll misfire.I'm planning on selling mine before something catastrophic break for $18-20k w/78k miles, still stock other than a few little scratches/scrapes on the bumper. might even sell the Z too next to it and just get a cpo 22+ wrx or elantra n..would save me $2k a year on insurance for a 2nd car + maintaining a 2nd car. >>29035022>>29035009/o/ genuinely believes what >>29034129 said a wrx is a way better daily because it has real backseats, a big trunk, and a upright seating position
>>29035036>a wrx is a way better daily because it has real backseats, a big trunk, and a upright seating positionYou know what else has those things at the same price point as well as 400hp? You can also do adult things with them instead of paying somebody to do it for you.
>>29035041>6000lb truck who caresi drive pickups 50-60 hours a week the last thing i want to do is get in another one 4chan autists only understand extremes its only black or white with their thinking
>>29035036>/o/ genuinely believesI'm >>29034129 and I also want to say dumb fucks like >>29034441 also believe everyone else's snowstorm is the same snowstorm he gets, but /o/ isn't ready for the truthinb4 some shitty witty comeback like murrrica snowstorms are the only ones that matterYes it's true AWD isn't required for snowstorms, you can survive most roads on FWD with decent snow tires, but lower trim WRX is (was?) also kind of a killer deal for AWD turbo manual 4-door do it all in Canada/CAD with warranty assuming the msrp price creep hasn't been too terrible lately
>>29035036I should say 19-21, those years have the improved RA block from the 2018 Type RA. Yes the FA24 is a better engine but for $40k the VB WRX is a worse car. And if your engine is stock it's not going to just randomly explode, that happens because retards do retarded shit by chasing too much HP or doing a bunch of mods without a proper tune etc
>>29035056A WRX is going to be ~4000lbs you you in it so don't be bringing up weight lol. Why do you want a WRX when they drive like trucks? >>29035059OP lives in Manitoba. That's like the Kansas of Canada. It's nothing but flat land and perfectly straight endless roads. A WRX would be a terrible match for roads like that.
>>29035062mine has a RA block and honestly dude these engines are so crappy theres like 3 different ways they can fail other than the pistons.burnt valves from the clearances tightening up (iirc subaru specs a valve adjustment at 100k miles and its a shim over bucket engine so its a pita)oil starvation (either from g loads or oil consumption or now from the pumps having the screws back out at >60k miles)detonation (pistons ofc or you just beating on it too much and cyl 4 tightening up from inadequate coolant flow...but detonation can also beat on the bearings and cause you to spin a rod bearing)50% of the failures are simply oil consumption making it run low on oil for a while. not even that difficult btw. just run the car for extended high-speed cruising (70-90mph) for a few hours like on a road trip...you'll right at the boost threshold the whole tripthe vb wrx has a decent amount of changes in chassis/suspension where it offsets the lack of diffs imo. if you give it big brakes and a decent shock (like subaru did in the wrx tr/ts/whatever that costs $45k new) its extremely close to the sti in performance. they dyno and weigh nearly the same...vb also has a good factory tune where you dont have that lame pedal lag. i like the steering rack in the va stis but its really fucking gay at higher miles >60k where either the rack or pump or both will start leaking and pissing atf everywhere ($1000 for the rack, $500 for the pump from the dealer iirc). >>29035059awd is nice if you have decent all seasons or snow tires, i get what you mean but something like a ctr/elantra n is definitely worse in the snow. i mean i always shill wrxs as the perfect "one car" solution, the problem is they fail if you can get a 2nd car (then yeah...a miata is more fun; a corvette/m3 faster; a pickup more practical; etc).
>fast>cheap>reliable Beyond that, I have seen many youth time and time again fall for the trap of believing subies are magic vehicles that take any abuse because AWD=indestructible rally machine when they get v8 fuel economy and v6 power. canadian winter takes it toll no matter what eventually so just get a pickup or disposable cockroach civic/mazda/hyundai and a set of winter tires
>>29035041>do adult things with themerotic application of lanolin on undercarriage
>>29034114color matching the cladding makes it (a bit) better
>>29035206>AWD=indestructible rally machineAll my racing games taught me that Group A machines had active diffs and all sorts of advanced technology that would never be viable in a road car.
>>29035071You'd need like three hoochies or two really fat people to push 4,000 lbs in a wrx. Thing is like 3300 lbs, it's 500 lbs lighter than a stang.
>>29035041bros shopping for a compact car, he doesn't want a fucking full size pickup
>>29035227That wheel arch trim would look 100x better if it was rounded
>>29035206for what its worth my sti and z get the same mpg (15-18mpg city 24-26mpg hwy), the z edges out by 2mpg more hwy on average (4wd vs 2wd) but the sti has more horsepower (220 vs 250whp). both are stock. v8s from my experience get worse mpg unless you're hypermiling a camaro/corvette with a manual which never happens unless you keep CAGS and do 90% highway at the speed limit
>>29035231every modern car worth it's shit has an active diff or a fake active diff decent enough that you will never tell the difference.actually the rally cars nowadays are banned from using active diffs since the costs were too high and maunfacturers gtfo'd
>>29034113>4 cylinders>2 headgaskets>2 valve cover gaskets>2 timing chains>massive front timing cover that leaks>2 camshafts >2 exhaust manifold gaskets>exhaust roasts the fuck out of one or two cylinders >spark plugs are a bitch to get to.Horizontally opposed engines should be reserved to 2nd/3rd vehicles not your daily driver.
>>29034113I one of the last fun cheap manual non hybrid cars you can get now, here it costs the same as a Camry. Other cars like the GR Corolla feel like you aren't getting much value for money because of the size. Miata is actually more expensive, BRZ only a bit cheaper.>>29034133Old ones don't seem that much cheaper.>>29034354Seems like a cheaply made car, the WRX from 2001 was more expensive considering inflation.>>29035254Comparable Z is far more expensive.>>29035683There are far worse things in cars like those transmission that break in nissans. You take what you can get these days.
>>29035695>There are far worse things in cars like those transmission that break in nissans. You take what you can get these days.Okay so don't buy a nissan? There's better options than a wrx or nissan.
>>29035746I think you're probably right about the 335i, esp if you are the sort of people who likes fixing broken shit. That being said, if OP wants a new(er) car, i.e. not 20 years old, the BMW is just out of his price range, assuming he isn't as you say, a vapelord pikachu ricer wrenchlet that wants rain guards.
>>29035856I see several zoomers in E90s around here, they are very popular. Perhaps OP is a balding millenial.
>>29035683>Talking about added complexityYou rave about having a CVT Maverick hybrid with e-AWD...None of Subaru's failures were flaws inherent with the boxer engine configuration, but from cost cutting.V8s have 2 heads, with all the added gaskets and shit too. And a lot of their spark plugs are more difficult than on Subarus. On my EJ257 it was just remove the intake tube and battery and you could get em out with the right tools without too much hassle.
>>29035886
>>29035896these cars are difficult to work on and have twice the amount of maintenance items for literally no benefit. its really just an objective fact. idk why ur trying so hard to reason otherwise other than coping with sunk cost.
>>29035908I don't have a Subaru, there is no sunk cost. I did for 11-12 years combined and found them to be pretty straightforward.>Oh no, I have to change the oil at 3k every time! >Oh no, I have to change that banjo bolt filter every 50-100k miles! Big deal. Where are these twice the maintenance items? Are they in the room with us? You're always so full of shit, dude.A flat-4 has 2 heads? So do V6s and V8s. I don't hear people telling others to go for the I4 turbo because the 2 heads of a V8 would be a maintenance nightmare...You drive and "hype-up" a CVT hybrid with electronically-controlled FWD based "AWD."
>>29035905Yeah, just get it. Had one for 4 years at this point, they're fine cars and as mentioned, it's trivial to make it much zippier with an Accessport, not even upgrading intake.
>>29036246e90 at this point would just be a maintenance nightmare. you'd be like the fifth owner and spend more time and money just fixing broken shit than driving. bmws not bought new are just poorfag cope mobiles for people who thinking buying some 20 year old sedan some jew farted in is luxury.
>>290341134 doors lollolol
>>29036274Literally you in your shitty old bmw. Car is probably as old as you are, agelet. I bet you aren't even balding yet. Once your engine explodes have fun driving pratik's old 2025 BMW and coping about how great you think the EPS is and how you love the subscription to turn on your blinkers.

>>29036323Yeah, that's not really a convincing argument. If you want to hoon around like a fuckboi on chink tires, sure, go for it, but that 20 year old BMW just isn't a mature platform for today's tuners.
