if spend not lot money on car can spend lot money on other thing

It's freeing in a way. You don't particularly worry about scrapes and dings. If a check engine light comes on, you start a kind of mini game to guess whether something will actually blow up or not. You can just throw whatever old gas you have laying around in it. You have to have good friends who don't mind picking your ass up front he middle of nowhere occasionally though.

You will arrive (if you arrive) at your destination reeking of petrol or diesel fumes, either caked in sweat or half frozen. Seat springs will dig into your back. You will get random stains on your clothes from the oil, grime, and detritus everywhere. You will spend your days sniffing at the suspect smells, listening in for concerning noises and trying to hone in on the source of 'that' vibration. Girls will think you are a murderer and refuse to get in your car. If you do somehow coax them into your jalopy they will fear for their lives and screech and moan incessantly. Luckily the rattles and the wind buffeting and howling pained engine sounds will them them out if you push the car to highway speeds. You will spend a lot of your time toiling on it. If it's your only means of transportation it will be a never ending source of stress as you ponder whether the car will make it to your job that you need to arrive at to earn the money you require to sustain the car so that it can get you to work. The car will let you know you are alive, for better or for ill. I do not miss those halcyon days of not having a nickel to rub together. My shitbox made me work a lot harder early on to have a good life.

Step 1 - buy Dacia Logan
Step 2 - drive it for 300k km until it goes to shit.
Step 3 - rinse and repeat.

Beat econshitbox I've ever used.

real povertyboxes cost less than a grand but really should be free. they are rusty, busted down, pieces of shit that are money sinks. marques include ford and chevy. if you have money to spend burning a hole in your pocket buy one of them and fix it up. but its a stupid idea if you're actually poor, just buy a reliable 90-2000s japanese commuter for a few grand more and you will save money on parts + gas

What do you even know about driving real povertybox....

The Fiat 126p was such a pathetic substitute for a normal car that it broke down even daily.

In a communist country where even for a simple V-belt you had to write and send an application to Polmozbyt (the equivalent of an authorized service center in communist Poland).

Makeshift repairs to the Fiat 126p used to rely on simple materials and driver ingenuity, such as pantyhose instead of a V-belt, soap for patching holes in the tank, or string to hold the exhaust. Pantyhose or a woman's stocking: used in emergencies as an emergency V-belt to drive the alternator and engine cooling fan. Hairpin or nail: used to block a broken throttle cable or repair small connections in mechanisms. Wire and hemp string: a universal kit for suspending a broken muffler or loose exhaust pipe from the floor pan. Insulating tape or plaster: for covering cracked lampshades and insulating sparking electrical cables.

With my last povertybox, a hailstorm came through while I was at work. While coworkers were stressing out dealing with insurance to get it repaired or getting their vehicle totalled out by insurance, I just drove home.
My new povertybox came with body damage down both sides. I can park anywhere and not worry about door dings or someone messing with it.

Meanwhile my old man had no issue maintaining his car during Societ times, my uncle drove a Mercedes W123 in the 70s.
Sucks to suck I guess.

You can brake check or scrape pricks on the road with very little to lose on your end

This is not a poverty box.
It is a simple, rugged box of the proletariat, comrade.
>>

you shouldnt do that to a car. theres someone out there that loves it no matter how many times its been through the trailer park.
>>
It's liberating like another anon said. You don't really care about scratches and little things too much. Parts cost nothing and can be found at the junkyard ez. If you're a wrenchlet it's perfect to learn shit without giving a fuck if you break something (own experience). Insurance is cheap. Ez to park. Never afraid it could get stolen.

The only thing is, it's risky for a daily. I did it because I liked that factor, despite people advising not to have your daily as a project car. Now it broke down lol and I'm a fucking pedestrian. Either live with the thrill like I did, either have a plan B. But no matter what, if you're thinking about doing it, do it. It's not that much money and it's an amazing experience. People will tell you about the thousands they spend for repairs and maintenance and little scratches and shit and you'll laugh.

Also would like to add that you will enjoy cars differently. All the flashy stuff will sound futile. You'll know what really matters and you'll end up loving that piece of shit car. You'll really look at the next subsequent cars differently. Changes your perspective completely, especially if you start wrenching even a bit.
>>

I care about scratches
It might be a shitty russian poverty box BUT IT'S MY POVERTY BOX
It's engine is now kaputt but i'm going to fix it, a new engine only costs what i paid for the car in the first place 7 years ago (300€)

Gas cost still cost $2500+ year if you're paying $5/g in 20mpg shit car.

Its not cheap. A real poverty box is an EV car. You're not taking shitbox across country, so EV car for $5K or les should be fine for daily driving. There are some shitty old Leaf cars that go for around that. Your daily drive is less than 50 miles, so its perfect and saves you thousands per year.
>>
>>29037724
I know people who do this.
>buy a car for $500 (example)
>drive until it fails
>get some money back by scraping it
>buy another cheap car
>rinse and repeat
Honestly i would find it tiresome. One time i was driven in one of these cars and his brakes failed.
>>
>>29037951
My daily drive is more than 50 miles one-way, and I live where it gets below freezing (when your toy car's battery life drops by 50%).
>>
>>29037977
those people are idiots. they scrap the car rather than spend $30 to keep it on the road for another couple of years. i hope they got the vaccine.
>>
>>29037935
You're will never unlock the full potential of your shitbox unless it has a massive scrape down the side or some other kind of body damage.
That said, the My Summer Car lifestyle you've got going on is it's own thing

Like some anons said: It's liberating. You don't care about payments, you don't care where to part at mall, you just park in first empty spot and don't give a fuck if somebody dents you.

You throw a middle finger to society, you don't care about status anymore. Bonus points if the car used to be a luxobarge and now is your beater. You get all premium comfort with zero worry in the world.

Bonus points for body on frame. Modern crumble zones work only if the second car also has crumble zones. Karen in modern SUV may believe she can crash into you and walk away with no scratch but now with your body on frame luxobarge you can be sure of mutual annihilation
>>
It's not a good look. In society, like it or not, perception is important. If you pull up to my business for a job interview driving a beater, you're not getting hired. Would you also show up wearing grass-stained white t-shirt? Because that's the vehicle equivalent of what you're doing. Drive a nice car, carry yourself with some class and dignity.

>I have to be as cheap and povery-stricken as possible at all times!

That is the energy you're giving off. Nobody likes that. Whatever money you are "saving" isn't worth the lost opportunities in life you're missing out on.
>>
I have always driven poverty cars. But I also regularly drive 600km one way on the freeway. It's getting difficult as I age, but currently I have a Toyota. I was thinking of getting an old 190e. What do you think? I'd have to bulletproof it of sorts

>If you pull up to my business for a job interview driving a beater
Who the fuck is looking out the window at your arrival? You just show up and check in at the office. Nobody knows what you're driving on interview day.

>Like some anons said: It's liberating.

I once forgot where I parked my beater, shrugged like it wasnt my problem

I did find it 5 months later lol

i work in the hotel industry and my boss has a beat ass dented 2008 camry with an unpainted ebay front bumper and 2/4 hubcaps.
he makes over 80k a year. you're retarded and don't work.

The most fun or the worst fun you'll ever have. Depends on who you got it from.
>>
>>29039046
I make about 160k a year now. Still driving the same car for 20 years. I am sort of looking a replacing it though. But with a slighter newer shitbox
>>
Buy literally anything with a Toyota badge and it will exceed your expectations. My Corolla is nearly old enough to vote and only has 1000 miles to go until it reaches the moon and I feel there's a real chance it'll make the journey back to earth in another 17 years.
