>>29041272That may be because the E30 was not designed as a wagon from the beginning, a BMW engineer made a wagon out of a wrecked one that management liked and decided to make a production vehicle out of 5 years after the E30 first went on sale. You can even see some of the sedan DNA with the hatch open as the tail lights do not move and block a lot of the lower opening you'd expect to be lower on a wagon.
