The engine will already be fuel efficient, and the savings from the hybrid will be offset a lot by its added weight and complex maintenance. Diesels also need to reach a certain temperature to run well, if the engine is starting and stopping whenever the hybrid system needs to charge, it will do a lot of long term damage to the internals and exhaust.
