I have literally never gotten my tires rotated.

If you drive more than a few minutes your tires rotate, like, thousands of times? Need to rotate them the other way, just drive in reverse a few hundred feet.

You look up "tire rotation" and its some utterly deranged shit like pic.
Like, you're gonna take my tires off and rotate them back and forth and, like, fucking side to side? Do these room temp morons not know that tires were literally made to rotate only the one direction?
>>
It annoys me that I have to tell them to rotate my tires and that it's a separate charge when I get an oil change. I need it done every time, what are we doing here?
>>
>>29040110
Firestone gets pissy about it when I tell them I want them to do it even as they advertise it as a free lifetime service with the tires I bought. Bros you can do this with your floor lift in a quarter of the time I can with four stands and a jack. But they are constantly short-staffed until it's time to buy a new tire then people magically show up to do it right away.
>>
Is it worth rotating my own tires? the shop that installed them says they’ll do it for free, but I don’t trust that. I feel like I’m going to show up and they’ll tell me I absolutely have to pay $200 for some other “safety critical” maintenance.
>>
>>29040113
every time I let someone else do anything on my vehicle they overtorque the lugnuts. I'd probably pay extra to do it myself if I had to. Don't tell the government, don't want them getting any ideas.
>>
I just rotate them whenever I swap winter and summer sets

are you me?
>>
>>29040098
Op is a retard. Tires should be rotated every oil change.
All those tire rating mileage only works when you rotate your shit.

My tires are directional and the majority of the tracks I visit run are clockwise, so not only does the left-hand side wear out pretty quick, but I can't even rotate the fuckers to make them last longer.

>>
>>29040165
directional tread really only matters in inclement weather, you could swap L/R for the track and then swap back for daily driving.
>>
>>29040169
Really...? I always thought that even in the dry the directional nature had an effect. Something to do with heat management too, iirc.
>>
>>29040173
you could test it by comparing track times, maybe do a few laps and then swap to wrong-way tread for a few laps and see if it performs worse. The worst thing that could happen is you crash and completely destroy your vehicle and health lol.

Not a bad shout, I'll have to try that next time I go out.

>The worst thing that could happen is you crash and completely destroy your vehicle and health lol.
So long as I die in the crash, I'd be fine with that - at least I wouldn't have to deal with the aftermath. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I rotate my Track tires every event
Alternate from X and forward and back rotations.
Drastically increase the lifespan of tires
>>
>>29040165
You can rotate directional tires side to side anon.
If you run a square setup, you can also rotate them front and rear

I can only rotate the tires on my have my cars because the rest run a STAGGERED setup

>>29040340
this is the correct way to mount directional tires on a motorcycle, what about a 4 wheeled vehicle makes it wrong?
>>
>>29040431
Front to back is fine, but how can you rotate them side to side? Unless you take the tire off the wheel and flip it, simply putting the left side wheel on the right would have the tyres facing the wrong way, no?
>>
>>29040340
>>29040341
Kek. I'm sure the tires didn't help, but something tells me this was due to a significant lack of talent.
>>
Every time I search AI, forum posts, ask a boomer, or ask a mechanic, I get different answers and logic. Fwd, AWD, rwd, nobody has a consistent answer for rotating tires.

That being said I think modern cars keep their alignment much better than old cars which is where tire rotation initially came from. Even for performance cars they have camber in the front but not the rear, there's minimal benefit that only adds a few thousand miles to the tread anyway.

I swap/destroy cars at about 3000 miles.
I think I replaced one once.
>>
>>29040098
I just swap front-rear when I change from summer to winters or vice versa. All you do is mark the tires LR LF RR RF with a tire crayon when you take them off. If I lived somewhere without winter, I would never bother taking them off just for the sake of rotating.
>>
>>29040538
>If I lived somewhere without winter, I would never bother taking them off just for the sake of rotating.
It still matters if you drive past the limit of traction often, if you don't keep good alignment, or if you don't keep ideal tire pressures, etc.
If you drive remotely hard, you'll want to do it.
Think about an FWD that's been launched and understeered a lot. The front tires will wear as the rears are fine, making loss of traction even more likely. Then, you waited to long to rotate, so you rotate and now the rear tires are bald so it'll spin out next time you do an emergency maneuver or take a highway. It's best to just keep all 4 worn relatively similarly.
>>29040478
>New cars are magic, they don't need maintenance
Let me guess, you think a 10k-mile oil change interval is A-okay because "it's new, they make them better."
>>
I drive a fwd shitbox and simply put the set with more profile at the back.
There is zero benefit im wearing tires evenly, i just order 2 instead of 4
>>
>>29040098
First thing is that cars will wear the edges off the front tires first and give them the donut look while the rears remain looking squared off. Rotating would at least give them all the donut look at the same time

It's been my experience with FWD cars that they will wear the front tires faster than the rear so rotating should result in more even wear.

My Challenger will wear the rears out about twice as fast as the fronts for an average of about 30K a set. If I rotated like I should I could probably get them out to about 45K a set. And no, I'm not replacing them by pairs like some 20-something brokie. OTOH, no more than I drive it now they'll age out before they wear out.
>>
>>29040459
Eh, guess I'm thinking asymmetrical tires not directional.
>>
>>29040561
Let me guess. You think new synthetic oils are the same as 60s dino oil and must be changed every 3000 miles because that's what grandad did.
>>
>>29040148
i keep a torque wrench in the car now. if they don't want me taking up a bay they shouldn't have used the rattle gun all the fucken way on.
>>
>>29040453
i can only guess that four wheel vehicles handle much differently to bikes so the tread design takes that into account
>>
>>29040764
>This oil is synthetic, so I can double or triple my interval!
Oil companies want to advertise that their oil lasts longer on the bottle. Car manufacturers don't want their used cars to cannibalize new and CPO sales.
Can they last 15k between changes? Sure, but it's worse for your engine than a 5k oil change. It will always be better to change oil sooner.
Synth is better, but it's not THAT much different, people act like all the rules of nature don't apply anymore.
The only maintenance most have to do is oil changes, it's really easy.
I do 5k NA, 3k turbo, with synth, and I will continue to do so. You do you.

>I have literally never gotten my tires rotated.

ok. well. Your tires last less useful tread, and give you greater stopping distance sooner than everyone else.

Congrats.

>Do these room temp morons not know that tires were literally made to rotate only the one direction?

most but not all tires are directional. Not exactly showing a high temp IQ yourself there, OP
>>
>>29040148
>overtorque the lugnuts

Once I watched some retard yank on the torque wrench hard enough to shift the entire car to tighten my lug nuts. The fucking spec is 76 lb ft and no doubt this moron either didn't set it to anything or set it to like 120. Not to mention it'd probably been dropped a bunch and had never been calibrated. why even bother owning a fucking torque wrench if it's just going to be used as a breaker bar?
>>
>>29040779
You don't know how to interpret an oil standard. You don't get to have an opinion on this topic.

>>29040478
Your manual will have the rotation schematic.
