Thirdie here. I am in the market for a truck that i need to haul 5,000 lbs of equipment constantly and another 2-4 thousand pounds of material depending on the job. I have run across a double cab f550 that has an early 6.0L in it. How hard are these things to swap out and are the easier swaps bank breaking? There are many reasons why i want this truck as it ticks nearly all the boxes but the engine is the concerning part. We normally have major engine failures at undee 100,000 miles, age and abuse are more defining factors than miles so I know this thing is going to be problems from day 1 so re engining it MUST be somthing i need to consider. Anyone have any experience swapping something else into a 6.0 ford?

Fuuuck a 6.0 either buy an old 7.3 and crawl down the road or pony up for a 6.7. I’m sure there are plenty of cummins swaps available if you want to go that route.

No option

As i stated i am a thirdie so my options to outright choose something is limited beyond your belief. However even if i choose to purchase something that is common here (hino ranger/isuzu forward) when it comes to parts i still have to send them from japan and the US is closer so there is an advantage for this truck. Japan can be 2-3 months where america xan be 2-3 weeks.

So. How easy is it to drop a 7.3 PS or 6bt in this thing?

6bt is simpler and fits pretty well if you zf6 swap at the same time. I have an older OBS with one it it and it’s not that big a deal.

Thanks. There are a couple of 6bt's in a yard but they are on the electro side so I should probably if it is possible to convert them back to mechanical pump

They can all be converted. You can take a new common rail and stuff a p7100 on it if you want.
