Why do motorcycles (maybe except for Harley) lack the cultural impact of sports cars?

A matter of perspective, I would wager.
A lot of the bike guys don't give two fucks what you drive because they're slower than 36 year old 250cc's. There's overlap, but you wont find many car guys with bikes, or bike guys with cars. It's kinda one or the other.
>>
>>29043561
I would argue that almost all bike guys in countries with snow have cars out of necessity but they may often be shitboxes

Arrives to pic up a date
>Oh, you're wearing a dress -you might want to change.
>And here's a leather jacket for you to put on
>What do you mean, you've just had your hair done? You need to put on this helmet
>And these gloves. What do you mean "My nails?"
>No, don't worry, it doesn't look like rain
30 minutes pass
>Sorry about that - the forecast made no mention of thunderstorms
>Don't worry, though, you can dry off in the restaurant
>What do you mean, can I call you a cab?
>>
>>29043572
Just you wait until they sit pillion on a big v-twin and need to carry a 2nd pair of shorts.
Bonus nachos if you hit the rumble strip 'Like a sybian' I'm told.
>>29043569
Thankfully I live in an area without snow year-round, but yeah - those a little south of myself aren't stupid enough to ride when black ice becomes a given, not a possibility. Almost always what one would call 'soccer mom' utility or a ute (to maintain some masculinity).
Usually it's that the missus car can't carry shit either, so they actually need something that can fit anything larger than a laundry basket in it for the household.

>forces you to operate a clutch/manual trans even though Dad was never around to show you how
>short service intervals that you can't do (plugs/oil/filters/chain/valves) on your own because Dad was never around to show you how
>Skill floor is moderately high and the stakes are higher than sitting in a automatic egg car with ac
>low 0-150 times but you have to know how to launch
>>
>>29043572
Why would you do this? Danger makes women horny

>here babe, wear this cute vespa helmet. Then your hair won't get messed up by the time we arrive
Women love sport bikes because they know you can't be a dumbfuck lardass to pilot one. They also imagine themselves as the motorcycle when you're on top of one.
>>
>>29043581
If you can't do motorcycle maintenence by yourself then congratulations on finding out that you have 2 digits in your IQ. Only exception is germanslop or italianslop. Rest is easy as fuck and don't give me the no daddy excuse, youtubes your daddy now boyo
>Hurr durr can't operate a dog box manual which is even easier than a car manual
The great filter, bless all motorcycles
>>
>>29043752
>they know you can't be a dumbfuck to pilot one
orly?
>They also imagine themselves as the motorcycle when you're on top of one.
You don't have a girlfriend, do you?
>>
>>29043763
I do. In fact she's the one who told me that. Also there's hella smut that involves a motorcyclist (of varying types allegedly)
>>
>>29043771
>I do. In fact she's the one who told me that.
You talk to your hand?
>>
>>29043780
Wow, never heard that one before. Did you learn that in the locker room or did you learn that at recess?
>>
>>29043756
>he's scared of touching euroshit
I wouldn't do it since it's not worth it but you're a somewhat based wrenchlet
>>
>>29043756
Ive heard too many stores of peoples German and Italian bikes sitting in a service shop for months waiting on parts or the fresh out of school tech taking weeks to figure out whats wrong with the bike.

>>29044183
>no service manuals.
>locked down ECU's.
>Proprietary specialist tools they only sell to certified shops.
>Pay to play slippery slope.

To be fair BMW, Ducati, and Aprilia are becoming increasingly hostel to non-certified independent shops and DIY'ers. KTM isn't far behind.
>>
>>29043556
Bikes are more niche because there are way less riders than people with cars. You kinda have to be an enthusiast with a death wish to even get into motorcycles in the first place, but everyone drives a car.
>>
>>29044215
>>locked down ECU's.
lol just replace it, i mean really theres no reason to replace it you cant even ride but its just a non issue and youre a wrenchlet
>>
>>29043556
Hardly Ableson pandering to outlaw MCs mindbroke four generations of people into thinking bikes are exclusively for criminals and low-IQ psychopaths, so any cultural penetration they had has completely evaporated.
>>
>>29044231
weren't you people alive in the early 2000s when Harley was selling a million bikes a year, and there were multiple custom chopper shows on TV all of which were extremely popular?
why do you think we had a ghost rider blockbuster with nic cage? motorcycle cultural cache wasnt some 70's 80's phenomenon that petered out bc of gangs. it was crushed by everyone going broke.
the entire motorcycle industry shit the bed after 2008 and has failed to recover. sales numbers per capita across the entire world, except developing asia, never recovered.
>>
>>29044830
>sales numbers per capita across the entire world, except developing asia, never recovered.
21 951 mopeds and 5 136 motorcycles sold in 2008 Poland
14 867 mopeds and 41 366 motorcycles (more than ever, at least since 2005) sold in 2025 Poland
>>
>>29044889
my apologies, i went to change "east/se asia" to "developing world" and i flubbed. in developing countries of eastern europe, africa, certain south american countries the same holds. motorcycles were crushed in the developed world where they were/are luxury purchases, not in the developing world where they are still more car like.
that is beginning to change though, for instance, to my knowledge, three wheelers are beginning to outpace motorcycles in india. in china, the transition to cars is almost complete.
>>
>>29043561
i have an s2000 and a vfr. though the vfr makes the s2000 feel slow
>>
>>29044231
If you look inside /dbt/ this assessment is more or less accurate.
>>
>>29045027
Mostly just the low IQ part
>>
>>29044230
>Oh yeah, bricked ecu? Lol just buy a new one entirely
>The manufacturer fucked me but this is a non issue because I said so!
Yeah you're low IQ. You don't wrench either. Stick to building gaming pcs dumb bitch

I think in Poland it's mostly because people who already have a car (which is a lot because there are 6 cars for every 10 people in Poland) started buying motorcycles. First because of increasing wages and second because now you don't need a motorcycle licence to ride a 125 cc bike if you've had a car licence for at least 3 years. When this law was passed in 2014, sales of 125 cc bikes skyrocketed instantly and in 2025 about 40% of all new bikes sold Poland were 125.
>>
>>29044230
if you were smarter, you would just have bought a bike which didn't create this problem
>>
>>29045079
You can see what I mean on this chart
virtual stagnation since the GFC in Britain
>>
>>29044830
they were selling to middle aged boomers who wanted to buy into the Outlaw MC image. the 90s and early 00s is when the "dentist biker" joke first came to the forefront. that short period of time when boomers were trying to chase the nostalgia dragon of their teen years was the only time in the last 75 years where HD wasn't on the verge of insolvency.
>>
>>29043556
Because motorcycles are for enthusiasts
Cars are for normalfags

I'm just happy it coincided with the good production years of Harley's best ever bike.

It also led to a zillion metric cruisers which are now completely bottomed in price, but still work better than the Harleys they were competing with.
>>
>>29044830
Man the 00s were a good time
Truly was peak golden era not just bikes but everything, been downhill since then
>>
>>29043556
Because their enthusiast owners end up dying early
>>
>>29044830
good riddance, harleys are gay and harley culture is for faggots.
>>
>>29045014
the s2000 IS slow, hope this helps
>>
>>29045065
>Yeah you're low IQ.
bro you got filtered by a stock ecu lol, wrenchlet
>>
gatekeeping. for a good reason
>>
>>29046807
my father was super into harleys in the early oughts and so were all his friends, these are the guys who taught me about bikes, and none of them were into the outlaw mc image. i think this is a meme with little relation to reality
>>
>>29045079
I wish we had this law in germany
>>
>>29046874
Its because companies and the rich recovered from 2008 by looting the middle and lower class. K shaped recovery and all that. Younger people just don't have the money to spend on non-essentials.
>>
cars are ubiquitous
motorcycles are niche
unless you live in SEA
