I've heard that the automotive industry is particularly soul crushing, I'm glad I avoided it and went with aerospace because it's bad enough there.

The industry is also really bad about compensation, probably because there's a never ending of new grads who want nothing more than to work on things that fly. Otherwise it's a never ending trudge through paperwork, meetings, and approvals to get anything done. Once you work here it becomes obvious why certified aircraft parts cost 10x what you'd expect.

Everything takes fucking forever because every single decision needs to go through multiple managers, and the requirements keep changing because some new regulation just came out, or some competitor did something different so we have to, or the client decided that they suddenly want something different, or the manager suddenly decided they wanted something different. So, it's entirely feasible for a fucking mirror design to take eight years.
