My 03 Avalon pulled an ABS code C0371 - Yaw Rate Sensor. I think its part of the VSC system that this car has. The sensor is either under the center console or under the passenger seat but its hard to tell from the diagramThe live data shows the yaw rate to be 127 degrees and that never changes as I drive my car. Do I need to just pull the battery and let it reset? I want to wrench it myself if its something easy to do.
it's under the center console.I doubt pulling the battery would fix it. It probably straight up failed. 127 degrees is the max value. It's tapped out and failed.

>>29047825>>29047825Well these wires are in the car where there’s AC and it’s comfy…I doubt the wire is ruined. I guess when you take the trim pieces off you’ll find out. Maybe you’ll get lucky and disconnecting it and reconnecting it would fix it (doubtful). Disconnecting the battery is always a good first attempt but it could just be broken. I guess you could have a bad ground somewhere ?…i would expect more problems if that was the issue tho

>>29047836Pictures make me think it’s a Toyota part but the sensor itself is a Bosch which might be fairly common. Might be able to find a new or cheaper one if you search by the Bosch part number

You wouldn't know your yaw sensor failing unless you were deliberately sliding the car sideways in the snow and went from stability control actively intervening to stability control not doing anything to correct it. It's likely engineered to "fail gracefully" and just ignore the yaw sensor, so now you have a more old school ABS system that just deals with braking, and your traction control is the same thing for acceleration. >>29048318It wasn't mandated until somewhere '08-10.When the S197 ('05-14) Mustang was new, ABS wasn't even included for several years and was a several-hundred dollar option.-If ABS still works but stability is disabled, you might be okay to live with that. Your call, but the lights are probably annoying-You can pull the ABS fuse and the system will work like a normal system without driver aids so there's no big safety implication to worry about, I don't even have an ABS unit, these systems are by no means necessary.
OP here. I replace the wheel speed sensor today, somehow that caused the yaw sensor to start working again, it now reads the correct degree when I turn my car. All the ABS codes are gone, at least for now.If it stays gone then Im glad all it took was to get my sensor replaced. thanks for the help in the thread
>>29050067This morning on a cold start the sensor stopped working again, and some new abs codes appeared, though after driving 5 mins the sensor worked normally, even though I had no current abs codes the lights were still on on the dashboardon the way home, i started getting brake pedal abs feedback when coming to a quick stop at lights. the new wheel sensor has a delayed response so sometimes it reads a completely different speed than the rest. after coming off the stop, one of my tires locked up and ABS went on and the guy behind me almost hit me. i pulled over. checked the codes again and loked at the live data but nothing was wrong. I was able to drive home the rest of the way without any issues

>>29051035>>29050829Pull the ABS fuse for the time being, OP. If it's now actually engaging the system, that's less safe for you and everyone around you. If it's intermittent I unfortunately have to second the suggestion that it's a harness issue, if it was constant we could blame the replacement sensor being Chinesium. Make sure your tires have good tread for wet/snowy weather and aren't dry rotted, and have your brakes bled if you don't remember the last time that was done. You're going to be driving old-school for now, this could get expensive fast if you don't want to/can't DIY the electrical troubleshooting required. Sorry this happened to you, time destroys all made by man, and unfortunately it's chosen to kill your ABS system before the rest of the car.

Seems like the wiring is suspect because it seems like the yaw sensor doesnt work on a cold start, but then will start working 5 mins into the drive. The wheel sensor I got was delphi, so not a chink brand.What's weird is that the sensor will start out lagged, UNTIL i plug in the obd reader and ask for a live reading of the data, at which point everyhing will work perfectly. I had the reader show the data during my entire 50 mile drive and all 4 sensors were in sync, and the yaw sensor was fine, no ABS problems no sudden wheel locks.FUCK electrical issues, theyre one of the few things i cant DIY well
>>29051218I don't blame you, CANbus and intermittent issues are hard. You've mentioned cold starts, how old is your battery and your regulator/rectifier system? It's extremely unlikely, but a dying battery COULD produce a funky issue like this. I reiterate, pull the fuse for normal driving, and only enable the system again when you have time to troubleshoot.
>>29051236battery was replaced jan 2025, however its likely my alternator has been fucked for a while. voltage never gets past 13.5V, and often hovers around 13.3 even while driving. the obd reader (maddox mr16) has an alternator test. I ran it twice, first time it failed the voltage threshold, second time it passed. I will run it a third time and seein the meantime i should pull those fuses. its a shame, up until now I was considering making this my forever car, but if its going to be another 5K i might have to reconsider.
>>29051244An alternator should be less than 300 bucks but don't just take my word for it, I've been a forklift mechanic for too long and have a lot of voltage sag related problems on my pure electric ones so that's where my mind goes, a car really shouldn't have the same problems 99% of the time. You could still keep this car a long time, it still runs, just know that you've lost the safety net of ABS for now. Should just be one single fuse specially called ABS.
