There's a lot to learn about proper shifting, but technique and execution are much more important than what RPMs you shift at. If you release the clutch slowly, and start applying throttle while doing so, you can upshift at any RPM.

So, me and my friend just put a new fuel pump in my fat bitch of a panther, which is a special girl because the fuel pump goes in the front of the tank rather than the top, and I got a conundrum now.We put a new evap valve in, so it's actually possible to fill the tank all the way. Nice, right?Except, now, if I fill the tank all the way, it starts dripping gas from (we think) the top of the oring where the fuel pump mates to the tank.Question is, how much of a shit should I give about this? It's a drip, and it only drips when the tank is full- we drove 40 miles and checked it again (albeit on an incline) and it wasn't dripping anymore- so is it really worth all the fucking around of jacking up the car, disconnecting those fucking fuel lines (one of them is broken and very hard to disconnect), and getting gas everywhere just for the sake of replacing that stupid oring?
lets say for example i added a quart of ATF to my oil, drove for 100 miles, and now I am doing an oil change.instead of doing two changes to get all the atf out of the engine, would there be any harm in leaving the drain plug open, disconnecting the fuel injectors, and cranking the engine over in a few short bursts to get all the old oil out of the engine?or even turning the crank pully by hand.would that empty all the oil galleys?

I've got a Daihatsu Cuore i3 turbo. It overboosted a few times, hitting boost protection and switching off. I replaced the wastegate and found and fixed any boost leaks (there was a pretty big one), now it stopped overboosting (it was causing boost protection) but still wiffles between 6 and 9 PSI when "holding" boost. Anyone know what to do about boost creep/oscilating boost? Car only has 140,000 kms on it but I'll just buy a new turbo if I need to.
How important is it to use an adhesion promoter for plastic? I’ve got some under dash panels that are a bit scuffed so I’d like to sand them and paint them. Do I need to get my hands on some adhesion promoter or do I not need to worry about it?

Some manufactures and models want you to lift on the pinch weld, some have specific pads under the car you jack up on, sometimes you need to jack from the front and rear subframe, if your car is body on frame you can lift it straight up on the chassis. Consult a video or your manual for your car's specific requirements.

2014 Honda Civic EX. 45k miles. I plan on doing 50k mile Coolant change for preventative maintenance. I already did a Transmission fluid change at 35k miles since its a CVT. And a Serpentine belt, battery, brakes/rotors, tires at 40k, spark plugs. Anything else i need to be worried about for preventative maintenance? Also when does anyone do a coolant change normally? I am trying to keep my single owner(me) car alive as long as possible.

A few things you might want to do eventually, say at 75k, are replacing the PCV valve, valve cover gasket, and resetting the valve adjustment to factory spec. The PCV on those cars likes to slowly go bad around that time, and starts letting oil into your intake. And the valve cover seal just starts leaking a bit when it gets old, nothing major. While you've got the valve cover off, it's a good time to check the valve adjustment. I'd change coolant between every 40-50k, just line it up with some other maintenance you may be doing so you don't have to jack up the car twice.

I upgraded my factory speakers and left the infotainment center alone. A Bluetooth connection only has some slight static. FM radio usually has very slight static. AM seems normal. USB connection it sounds crystal clear. Any ideas what I might be able to try to remedy?

Replaced the transmission fluid pan gasket a few days ago & noticed the bottom of the pan looked like it had moisture on it yesterday after a ~10 mile test drive on a warm day.Weird because my subframe and jack point looked dry. The reason it builds up there in the first place is because there's nothing to burn or clean it off. Direct injection engines don't spray fuel into the intake port like a conventional injection system, so all the oil and carbon just settles in the intake as it passes through and gums everything up. Intake cleaners also don't really remove any significant portion of the fouling, so if you want things *actually* clean again, the intake needs to come off and the ports need to be blasted. If diesel, you'd probably need to clean out, replace, or delete the EGR system, too. Also consider installing an oil catch can to held mitigate this issue in the future.

I was driving uphill and changed gear to 4th, I noticed that the clutch felt really light, a bit later I downshifted into 3rd and noticed the same thing. Afterwards I wanted to upshift into 4th and I couldn't. I popped it into neutral and parked it on the side of the road. When the car was off I could put it in any gear (maybe not reverse, I haven't tried it). When the car is off the clutch still feels fucked. What could it be? If you're gonna do it, it's best to do it as soon as possible, just because the edge of the filler has been exposed and water will likely get trapped between the filler and the panel, and rust out said panel extremely quickly.

>>29059798could it be your axle bushings perhaps? i just did them on my dad's 03 corolla, the rubber on them was pretty fucked. there's not much else back there to go wrong and make noise DESU. although if it's happening while you're idling it sounds like it's probably something else, like the heat shield directly above your muffler. the metal on these are really thin and once the holes for the bolts rust out it'll start rattling or even hang down, maybe that chirp sound is the muffler scraping against the heat shield (this is something i recently had to fix). also make sure all your exhaust hangers are in order and the rear break dust shield/backing plate is okay, those can get bent up or rust away and start making weird noises.

Gasoline or spray on degreaser (rinse off with water) are both much milder solvents that won't damage anything if you'd rather use one of those. You're looking for wear marks for something that moves around, like bare metal where the paint and rust is rubbed off, from a part that's not touching it at that time.Those diff drain bolts are a bitch, the innie 10mm hex tends to round out, to get them out they usually need heating with a torch and then smack it a few times with a hammer, and replace it with a different style like >>29025847. Luckily the fill bolt is a different style and will probably come out with just a normal socket, 24mm iirc. You need to get a couple quarts of the right gear oil and squirt it in the fill bolt hole until it starts to drip out, or your car will eventually try to kill you.

How do you jack up a unibody car so that both front tires are up? Do I have to just jack it up from one side then do the other? It seems like I’m going to bend the chassis doing that and it would be easier to jack it from the crossmember or something.

How much would you drive on tires that just *barely* fail the quarter test? I know they are low tread, but I have to do a 1600 mile road trip. I'd really prefer to get one last trip out of the limited tread I have left.. thoughts?

This is assuming you are going to be getting new tires for the vehicle one way or the other. That said, I don't know that much about tires so feel free to ignore my Dunning Kruger take. Tires old enough to have the tread worn down like that have been giving reduced performance for a long time so you're accustomed to it, just be aware of that in case you find yourself in worse conditions than you're accustomed to. Muh quarter test is a boomer salesman tactic to keep you living in fear and consooming new tires when your old ones still have plenty of life. 1600 miles isn't very far.

Was driving home, a bunch of lights came in dash, included check engine. It was running fine so drove 5 minutes home. I stopped it and started it once after I parked. Went out a few mins later and it won't start, no lights at all. Couldn't jump it with a potable jump pack. Battery looked terrible, so I replaced it, not sure how old it was. I knocked off the corrosion and installed the new one. Truck started for a few seconds then turned off. Turned the key again and it came on long enough for the AC to kick on, then shut off after a few seconds. Now it's completely dead again. No lights or anything when turning key. I'm kind of assuming bad alternator or a short somewhere. What do you think?
