I don't get the hype. They drive fine, but it's also not life changing.
>>
>>29050074
is good handling on cars a meme? most people will be driving in the citry 90% of the time so why does it matter
>>
you're too young to understand
the appeal was how cheap they were used a decade ago.
they're still wonderful cars but idk if i would pay current prices for one
in 2012, i bought a $2000 NA with 40000 miles and drove it all throughout high school and had a blast.
for $2000 i was ripping around town with the top down. just a great car for the money.
when i got tired of it? guess what i did. i started playing with the suspension and handling and my love for the car was restored.
still own it

i feel for the young crowd, they really have no fun cars to pick from
>>
>>29050074
Exactly.

How can you call something that doesn't even have 400 hp a sports car?
>>
>>29050074
they're the ThinkPads of /o/. once you actually own one they're just 'OK'. compare them to (((modern))) cars and they're great though.
>>
>>29050357
professional racing before cars regularly made 400 hp wasn’t motorsport — it was just four wheels chasing each other.
>>
>>29050357
tiktok brain damage in effect
>>
>>29050074
They were very cheap for how well they handled.
>>
>>29050364
xD
>>
>>29050074
It's the beta male equivalent of >I'm not like other girls
Basically, high estrogen males can't stand out due to actual qualities so they reject traditional masculine appeals to cling towards things they can acquire to make them stand out
It's millennial hipsterism
>>
>>29050074
there is no hype
that is the hype

slow car fast is better than fast car slow
>>
It's just a good, solid car
and they used to be dumb cheap
>>
>>29050074
It's just a fun cheap car. The last of its kind.
>>
>>29050092
I feel like the last of the cheap cars were in the very early days of COVID. Shit felt like the last chopper out of nam in retrospect

Boomers were selling their shit for dirt cheap because they weren't sure what was gonna happen long term. Bought an NA for 4500 in mint shape
>>
If you drive one on all-seasons it's very easy to break traction, and it's very controllable past the traction limit.
It'll slide around at 5mph. All you have to do is throttle it to slide bone stock, no flicks, no handbrake. If you like that sort of thing, there isn't much else like it. I've had much faster and grippier cars, I now drive miatas. It's just stupid fun, but it's good at it so you know you're not going to crash when you do dumb shit.
Babby's first drift car.

It's okay but not as a dd
>>
>>29050615
Or they're just fun you armchair sociologist bitch

In a world dominated by not-fun cars they're a fun car. They were also one of the cheapest cars you could buy when new so it was an easy recommend for anyone who wants a car who can't afford to step up into something better.
But now? It's become a meme and has a huge meme tax. There's no way I'd ever think of buying a NA when you can get a lower mileage i6 Z3 for less.
>>
>>29051200
I'd have a miata over a Z3 even if they were the same price.
>>
>>29050615
Well said. The most tolerable owners are ones that understand the limitations of the Miata, and have other "real" sports cars. The guys who only have a Miata will go on forever about how amazing it is, and it's really that the Miata is the only car that they can afford and not break.

>>29050626
Full of shit / 10. Go on YT or any other platform and you'll see endless glazing about the Miata. If there was no hype, they would still be $1-2k cars instead of $5k and up now.
>>
>>29051204
I couldn't live with the lack of power.
90mph is just the top of 3rd gear in a Z3 3.0i. It's about the top speed of a NA.
I hit 80-90 in a 25 all the time. A Miata can't get there.

The 2.8 and 3.0 have a really nice amount of power. Enough to get to the edge without having to restrain yourself much. It feels good to be able to accelerate going uphill. On highway hills I can use the slow vehicle lane as my personal autobahn and get up to 120 reasonably quick. A Miata has to give its all just to keep up with traffic.
>>
>>29051223
Drive better Miatas then, my NB has no such issues.
>>
>>29051223
My NA8 '95 would go up to 126-127 mph stock. That's what most NAs and NBs top out at.
The Z3 has more power, but that's it. The 3.0i, for example is a good 700 lbs heavier. It has mcpherson front, trailing arm rear. Everyone agrees the miata is more responsive and handles better. These aren't drag cars, though more options is good, some people want the euro look and a little more power.
>>
>>29050086
I was getting bored of my wrx just scooting around town for months on end then I had a big drive on mountain highways and remembered how much better it takes corners than anything I've driven before.
>>
>>29050615
Let me guess, you daily a truck.
>>
>>29050074
>drive quite well
>RWD
>can go top down
>mechanically easy enough to work on (actually a major benefit)
>lovely with or without mods
>looks different and fun
>about as unpretentious as you can get

What else would you suggest in the price range?
>>
>>29051398
>What else would you suggest in the price range?
Uhhh, there's always the good ol, uhhh...
>>
>>29050092
This, there was a time when Miatas were relatively safe from the drift tax because "haha gay car"

You really had to be there, I can barely describe it. They were everywhere and you could be picky as another one would be listed in a couple of days on craigslist. M editions, rare colors, they all costed about the same as they were considered equally worthless. Wasn't uncommon to buy from the original owner too. Now I rarely see them anywhere, and the few I do see are driven by absolute weirdos.

This isn't even limited to the Miata, but in retrospect the car market was magical 10 years ago. It's almost mind boggling, cars have never increased in value like they have over the past decade.
>>
>>29053530
>cars have never increased in value like they have over the past decade.
when i saw 15-20 year old civics going for $8-10k during covid, I knew it was over, you don't come back from that
i think it's a few things
>social media
these fucks have ruined all cars
>immigration
sorry to bring it up but they gotta drive something
>attrition of analog cars
>people are broke
>>
>>29053543
dont forget

>rust

miatas are still somewhat affordable in like florida but in salt states they're missing rockers or floors. NBs worse than NAs
>>
>>29053543
>sorry to bring it up but they gotta drive something
what if we deported them instead?
>>
>>29050357
The E-type Jaguar isn't a sports car now?
>>
>>29051306
I'm not him, I daily a truck and I think having an MX-5 would be a blast
>>
>>29053564
