How much hp is a lot?
>>
>>29050547
Depends on your gearing
>>
>>29050551
This and weight.

500HP in a Peterbilt or Mercedes commercial truck is much different than 500 in a Honda S2k.
>>
>>29050547
300hp or more is good for me. Usually a NA V8 can provide this easily and you don’t get hit too hard on maintenance/complexity and fuel economy.
>>
weight/hp ratio below 8kg/hp
>>
>>29050547
Torque-to-weight ratio is most important.
>>
Torque definitely matters the most. My 2020 ranger feels like a piece of shit to dd compared to my 2025 maverick hybrid because of the torque, while the ranger has no torque until boost comes in at 2.5k rpm - the first 20% of the pedal doesn't even move the truck.
>>
>>29050547
torque at the wheels is literally the only thing that matters
>>
depends. in a Porsche? 300
in a mudstank? 800
>>
>>29050580
More like 6 kg/hp, 8 is just fine for a family car
>>29050625
>>29050651
>my car is so slow at low rpm
>have you ever tried driving it at high rpm?
>no
>>
>>29050651
You DD a John Deere then, right?

Anything over 500 on the street is a bit silly. That's been my metric. 500 in a manual chally is the sweet spot. Anything more like 700+ in a hellcat, and for what? Keeping the traction nanny on to the point it acts like a 4-500 hp car? Blitzing the tires in 3rd to 4th? When you've got enough HP to break traction at highway speeds, its too much.
>>
>>29050547
Power to weight.

In order to reach 100kph, a 3000lb car needs 704 Horsepower-seconds. Assuming there was no friction losses, or aero losses, and the tires could put unlimited power to the ground, you'd need to generate 704 horsepower for one second to reach 100, your 70.4 horsepower for 10 seconds.

Once you understand this, you can pretty reasonably guesstimate the 0-60 time of any vehicle if you know the power and the weight.
>>
I had a EV with about 750hp and that was the sweet spot in my opinion. Even in an EV you're bottle necked by traction after about 500. The difference in 0-60 with 500 vs 1000 is only about a half second on the street. 750 is enough where you can punch it on the highway and still make some progress but 1000 is so much that you're going to jail before you even know it. So I guess 1000 is "a lot"

750 is goofy. My ioniq 6 has 320 hp and is rated at 4.6s to 60 which is ridiculously fast.
>>
>>29053032
Problem is that's almost no power and almost all torque and traction. After 30mph the fall off in acceleration is a cliff. At 60mph you're just regular traffic.
>>
you need 900 hp at minium to hit your local speed limit of 40
>>
>>29053044
it sure doesn't feel that way, you can accelerate onto the highway up to 75 mph in a heartbeat
>>
>>29053032
>4.6s to 60 which is ridiculously fast.
Dude, that's beginner bike tier
>>
400hp is good enough for anything not an SUV or truck
500hp is a lot
>>
>>29053100
>motorcycles are fast because of minmaxed power to weight at the expense of everything else
no one cares though
>>
10hp/lb

I’ve got a manual ScatPack Challenger, ScatPack Charger and a Hellcat Charger. Can confirm I’ve had more fun on the road in the ScatPacks because you can actually use that power. It’s still more than enough to get you in trouble, but it’s not silly power like in the Hellcats.
