Are there any DIY friendly EV brands?
are there any DIY friendly cars in general?
>>29050624im basing this off nothing bc i know nothing but i assume the general nuts and bolts of ev are similar to ice. The difference is you need to be more familiar with electricity to troubleshoot and fix a larger number of components than with ice. so get a multimeter and learn diy electrician shit and you should be fine
If you can get a BMS and battery modules and know how to not electrocute yourself working with high voltage stuff then you could build one from scratch if you wanted
>>29050631All the ECUs are locked or something, and they are connected to outer elements as well like headlights. In older ICE cars with the right DIY setup you can freely access the ECUs and actuators and easily do stuff like proxy alignment.
>>29050624>>29050627What are you wanting to do yourself on the car? You can do just about everything outside of the canbus and software stuff unless you're a hackerman level coder.
>>29050624not cars but all two wheeled EVs are like the wild west, you can buy battery packs that can juice anything up to highway speeds
>>29050634With modern EVs you can't replace your battery modules easily at home like a hybrid the battery is integrated with the frameIf you want to install massage seats or something there's probably a method to connect wiring to the main battery but it will vary from car to car.
>>29050657you can get in there if you're not a pussy
>>29050664Wtf
>>29050627Any mass produced car with a big following will have a lot of community modding solutions made for it. So Civics, Corollas, F-150s... The older models have their quirks more figured out
>>29050670just dont touch anything with both hands
Is this shit engineered to be hard to diy battery change and removal or because the batteries are huge now they need to geat the weight tightly spread over.

>>29050627Buhanka my beloved.
>>29050689Couple of things at a guess:1. Duty of care shit for nanny state countries, messing with the battery pack is kind of like stepping into your gas tank using a zippo for light if you don't know what you're doing (you don't know what you're doing)2. It's such a heavy mass and fire hazard in the event of a crash that they actually do want it all caged up to meet safety regs in the event of a crash3. Probably at least 20% of unashamedly trying to sell cars as a service, mercedes have been most egregious with this by not even giving you the ability to pop the hood without a bit os specialist knowledge and removing some trim.
>>29050624You can get Rover Mini EV powertrain replacements and you can get entire fiberglass body shells without ever needing a donor Mini to turn into a EV.>>29050627My man the Locost has existed for decades.
>>29051463God that's a gay idea when motorbike engines, B Series, Redtop etc kits exist for Minis.
>>29051475But do they have access to clean transport zones?
>>29051487>clean transport zones = nigger zonesI don't visit them.
>>29051487>do they have access to clean transport zonesYes - in the UK, vehicles over 40 years old are exempt from emissions zones, regardless of drive train.
>>29050624Slate provides all service info for free to hobbyists.
>>29050624>are there any homecooked meals in a macdonalds?
>>29051430Yeah that all makes sense. EVs are pure shit.
>>29051668But lots of ICE cars are and have been DIY friendly.

>>29050664whoa i thought the cells would be bigger than that. that just looks like a bunch of 18650s
>>2905222021700sbut yes
>>29050624Living in a temperate climate I'm thinking the Leaf would be a good choice.Plenty of youtubes explaining how to repair and modify them.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiM0JQC4C0c&t=132s
>>29051430>messing with the battery pack is kind of like stepping into your gas tank using a zippo for light if you don't know what you're doing (you don't know what you're doing)You dont know what the fuck you're talking about.
