This is my first car and first post. Don't know anything about cars but this seems like something I can do myself. Planning on duct taping it for now and setting some time to replace it on the weekend. Any advice or things I need to know before I do this?
Year, make, model?
2012 Honda Civic
Do you own Craftsman tools?
Don't own any tools other than the basic screwdriver, wrench etc. laying around. Have a way to get tools at MSRP though, was planning on getting a socket wrench set.
Duct tape won't hold over the accordion.I'm having trouble seeing the rip.Red circle please. Consider buying a cold air intake. Might be cheaper than paying for an OEM part. Check eBay for a used intake, also a junkyard. It's fairly simple to replace it. Idk about the 2012 but might need an ECU flash to take advantage of a CAI.
That's a great introductory DIY job, it's low cost, low risk, low torque and requires just enough contorting to make you feel like you accomplished something. Just get your tools and have fun.>>29050884A dollar store ricer intake is not superior to the OEM airbox in the vast majority of cases and neither is the full intake cheaper than a brand new $20 tube, and on top of that you also introduce potential annoying fitment issues and also have to deal with an air filter that's worse than the stock paper one.

>>29050897 It's not, I felt it with my fingers. Example of seam highlighted in blue.

Super glue it.

That's not pictures of a civic, please show us your car.

>>29050862>Planning on duct taping it for nowGood choice.1.Cut a narrow strip of duct tape.2.Apply strip.3.Repeat as necessary How much does Honda want fo the OEM hose?If it's a ridiculous price, find a used hose in decent condition at a junkyard.ENSURE THAT IT'S THE SAME Model as yours. You can't mix and match hoses between DX, LX, EX, etcI don't recommend any mods on your first car for now..let's just get her running properlyCongratz on the vehicle!
