Every car show I go to has Dyno sheets that look like this.
Giant blower and camshaft, but a retarded power curve.
Coupled with shitty tires and a 60e transmission.

I don't get it.

What the fuck is wrong with that power curve? You do know there are a million cam options to have whatever power band you want right? Use a truck cam if you want all your power at idle. 2v/cylinder heads don't flow as well past a given RPM, period. Bore and stroke also play a factor, but less so. Superchargers also trend towards lower RPM torque/power boost compared to a large turbo for high RPM. Combine all these and you're going to end up choosing a cam to support maximizing low/midrange gainz while not completely falling on its face, which is achieved here as you can see the horsepower curve merely flattens out and doesn't really dip down. Pretty much everything has been done with the LS series engines including high RPM destroke builds, but most people choosing a V8 are aiming for a dyno chart that more or less looks like this. Far from a retarded power curve.

Falling torque after peak which translates to stagnant power as rpm increase meaning wasted potential. Under a proper build torque should hold steady so RPMs can do its things and build power. This is NOT a linear power and, it's a logarithmic style curve, meaning around 5k rpm it'll feel like it'll stop accelerating even if there's still 1k more rpm a rev. A real good power curve has torque flat while power is a straight linear looking like a diagonal line until redline.

Not true. Torque is instantaneous power. But when the engine spins faster there are more impulses of torque in a given time so you can accelerate more even as torque is dropping. That's a reason why we use power as a measurement, too.
It's a decent set of curves. Would an engine that stayed at 650 the whole time after 4252 be better? Sure, but that's pretty good.

Don't get me wrong, every car I've had is DOHC and most had vvt though I have driven plenty of V8s hard and one V10. I think OP's curve looks nice, it's got a lot of power over the entire rev range that you'd use when redlining and imo the curves say it's still accelerating even quicker at the end of the range. That's good, not for a pro drag car where you'd want big top-end, but a hot street car where midrange is nice and you don't have to fully rev it unless you need to.

It is. All the power curve that comapnies or normal dyno results show you is the 2D slice of the back right wall (but from the other side, so rpm increases to the right). But there's nuance to everything else and most people don't do wide open throttle every day. A test drive is a lot better than looking at numbers online.

For me I don't think I'd ever consider one because I'm a huge diesel guy and I love my mechanical mills that make power running off 100% waste oil. I've been trying to source a Bosch mechanical pump for an ALH for this reason. They're not the fastest engines but you can still build them to 400hp or more and still be dead reliable. Same with the OM606. So 45-60mpg and great performance. Sounds better than the 1320 video Normie LS temu parts LS swap.

You're literally holding back the turbo with your foot, if you're in your powerband the turbo is already spool and it has already built up boost all the way to your throttlebody and it's just waiting for you to allow that massive rush of air into the engine.

Yes that's because with a turbo your throttle input is not linear to your throttle output, you might put in 10% more throttle but the turbo will want to turn that into 50% more torque. If you're too much of a scrub to accommodate for this with your foot, it is entirely possible to map it into a DBW setup.

The purpose of having a metric which consists of both torque x RPM is that you can compare engines regardless of gearing.
Whichever engine has the higher horsepower output will be able to generate higher wheel torque at a given road speed, you don't actually have to go through all the calculations of:

You can just look at the horsepower figure and see which engine has the greater potential for wheel output.
