Hey, Yuropoor here. I'm childless and with money to blow on a fun car. 20k Euro is my budget. I was looking at the BMW 135i model years 2008-2012. It's a v6 306hp coupe. It also seems fairly spacious to have as a solo car. Is this a reasonable place to look or am I setting myself up for disaster?
>>29052781>am I setting myself up for disaster?VANOS system is known to failturbos are known to shit the bed before 100k milesoil pressure problems are expectedand I think I remember hearing about suspension parts being worse than Temu parts.
Dead nuts reliable just do the maintenance and change oil

$20k for a 135i is a lot IMO when a newer 2-series is $15k. I’d probably choose a 135i over a 2-series for sheer driving enjoyment, but it’s an older car with less horsepower so normie demand (and price) should be less. If you can get one for around $10k then I say go for it, but there’s a lot of good options at $20k:>Cayman>new/newish gr86>diesel giulia (manual) starts at around $10k>Megane RS (if you’re gay/french)>90s-2000s jap imports: Nissan Pulsar GTI-R ($15k +s/h)>Jaguar F-type ($18m starting in Japan with 93,000km)Cayman would be more fun but with some practicality compromises, same with the GR86; but if you don’t have a family they’re fine IMO. I just checked autoscout and 135i prices honestly seem way too high when you can get good sports cars for much less. Are you in the UK or a LHD country?
>>29052865I'm in Scandinavia. Caymans are expensive around here. About 30k for the 2007-2008 models and that's the cheapest you can find. And I can't find a 2 series in that price range that has even near the performance.
>>29052824>just change the oil, that will prevent your cooling system and hpfp from exploding
>>29052872Ah ok. So you get taxed like 30% on imports? I was going to say, some European cars here (Japan) depreciate massively, and on top thst the yen has depreciated a another ~10% in a year so there are a lot of crazy deals on what I would call second-tier used cars that people aren’t focused on (non-GTR/NSX type stuff). What about a 130i? They’re 1/3rd the price of a 135i here. I had a m235i fully spec’d out previously and I probably would’ve traded 100hp for less weight, better weight distribution, and better suspension, which is why I’m hating on the 135i. As a DD it was ok but should’ve been four doors for its size/weight, and as a track/fun car it was too heavy and had bad weight balance. The 135i/130i seem a bit like the m235i/228i comparison, where the lower trim was actually more fun to drive.
>>29052872I don't know how it's over there, but here in Poland, I've seen S550 5.0 manual Mustangs for 20-23k euros. And those were Euro market cars too, not salvage Copart specials.
>>29052895Some specific prices of what I’m talking about:>130i m-sport (manual), 111,000 kms for $53002017 giulia 2.0t (200hp model, flash tune to 300hp), 95,000km, $5500 -> I would get a diesel manual if I could, but they have less hp and more issues than the 2.0t automatics>Late model RX-8, 100,000km, $6500 ($3600 for an early model Type S)Lancer Evo X manual (168,000km) - $15k>Aston Martin Rapide (v12), 96,000km, $25k - slightly overbudget, automatic only. DB9s are similarly cheap. These are all clean title, dealer prices. Auction prices are 10-20% cheaper. Even paying 30% in taxes+VAT these seem a lot cheaper than the shit I’m seeing in Scandanavis.
Do you also have a budget of 20k to repair this piece of shit when it breaks frequently?
>>29052781>v6you are in no position to maintain an n54
>So you get taxed like 30% on imports?>>29052895>So you get taxed like 30% on imports?Yeah EU-foreign performance cars are all stupid expensive and I'm not even sure about parts availability. BMW stuff is everywhere. >What about a 130i? They’re 1/3rd the price of a 135iThey only exist as hatch? Atleast that's all I'm getting searching for one. There was some 230i on sale but they cost 25k. Maybe the middle difference is worth it. These models are 2017-2018 too. But of course not V6...I feel like the 350i gives me M performance without the M price why it's so attractive to me. >>29052942Thank you I will research these. Appreciate it.
>>29053056>But of course not V6Meant straight six
just get a mustanga 25k mustang is cheaper than a 15k n54/n55
>>29052895>>29052942Pls let me post on Futaba
>>29052942>Lancer Evo X manual (168,000km) - $15k
>>29052781That's a nice looking car
>>29053056I test drove a fully-optioned 230i and it was alright but the steering is just as dead as on the 6-cylinders. I remember it felt much less front-heavy than the 235i, but I fell for the horsepower meme. The 1-series still has hydraulic steering I believe so I’d say that is a major advantage, but BMW probably found a way to ruin hydraulic racks. And yeah, 130i is hatchback only which is why I never bought one, but they’re practical and seem to be universally praised by their owners. >>29053068I saw a clean-ish GC8 Type RA go for $5k last year at auction. I think it had high mileage and repair history though.
>>29052890Those were recalled retard.
>>29053120Where's the link to the expansion tank recall?
>>29052942These are all fantasy prices.
>>29052781>I was looking at the BMW 135i model years 2008-2012.1 Series M is the way to go.
>>29053270>i have a budget for the x car>well, why don't you buy the car that costs 3 times as much as x?
>>29053276>well, why don't you buy the car that costs 3 times as much as x?Fair point.I didn't realize how rare that the production was, even for the EU.
>>29053241They’re literally all on goo-net faggot. Divide by 160, it’s not hard.
>>29053059That's a nice choice despite me hating American shit. Unfortunately has some white trash taint to it.

>>29053324>Oh God that blissful soundYeah brother. If I can find one, I'm inclined to purchase.>>29053329>The only one up for sale has 200k km on the odometer. The V8 or the twin turbo diesel?I'm guessing the V8.
>>29053315It’s only bad when you’re stuck behind a semi on a 2 lane road.
>>29053347V8 yeah. I'm guessing the low mileage ones instantly sell out.
