Why yes, for $5,300 you can get a brand new vehicle that does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds.
>>
Every motorcycle owner also owns a car or two, so people with motorcycles have more money than you do

Yeah so, it's nice that at least one thing that's fun and not excessively expensive isn't banned yet man

I used to be an engineer for Harley, right out of college. I’ve eaten bbq right across the table from Willie G (who’s probably dead by now). They wouldn’t fucking listen to reason. All they had to do was watercool and outsource some of the parts production but nooo. They opted for “spot cooling” only on some models- yo, if you’re gonna have a fucking radiator and water pump, why not cool the cylinders? And the XR1200? Fuck, it was consuming over a quart of oil every 500 miles brand new even on our lightest duty cycles. That company is SO fucked.
>>
>>29053392
Depends on the bike. They ARE however 100% a compensation device just like a lifted truck or a sports car.

>you feel a bit mogged, his vroom vroom is so much louder
>you think that if you smoke him, you will meet him at the next lights and ask him out
>lights turn yellow and then green
>you got smoked instantly and never see him again, maybe missing out on the love of your life
>you decide to make this thread with a pic of a bike like his but that wouldn't be controversial enough so instead you make it with a bike worth 3x more than your Chally

Everyone that owns picrel owns a car or three. A ducati is a toy reserved for wealthy people with disposable income. It’s most of the reason motorcycling is dyinf a slow death in the west. People can’t afford them. If you posted a CB125 or something that a thirdie would ride in lieu of a car you’d be correct

The internet says he's still alive.
The Revolution was a great engine. Dad bought an 03 vrod new. I figured for sure that's the direction they were going to go. But the old guys insisted on air cooling. Which is why the median buyer is 65 now. The revmax bikes are great but they're less than 10% of sales.

Aircooled bikes are honestly based. I’ve really grown to appreciate the sound, the aesthetics and the simplicity of an aircooled engine in the past few years. Yeah performance takes a hit but it isn’t everything. That’s not an excuse dor Harley not to have pushed the envelope more though. They made their bed pandering to the boomers and now they have to sleep in it. I suppose a brand with that much baggage was always gonna have a hard time pivoting.

Tell me exactly how an engine being liquid or air cooled affects the exhaust pulse spacing.
>>
>>29053392
i would say only when you cant afford a fast car you buy something like a cheap japanese supersport 600 on the market just to get a fast transport
>>
>>29053747
People are so quick to pick a fight on here lmao. I had an air and oil cooled Suzuki GSXR which sounded better than the liquid cooled update that came out a year after, maybe bc there was less sound insulation around the engine with the cooling fins idk. Maybe because it was just less refined and more ‘raw’. It just sounded better, simple as. Old two valve air cooled ducati v twins sound better than the later liquid cooled ones too imo. Not everything requires an ‘ackchuyually studies have shown’ thesis. The unga bunga part of my brain that responds to stimulus thinks they generally sound better.

Yup. I predict a lot of car enthusiasts are going to get into motorcycles because it's more enthusiast friendly. Cars are becoming pozzed compromised nonsense. Motorcycles are flying under the radar in comparison.
>>
>>29054301
>So uhm coolant changes da exhaust note
Water cooling doesn't do that kek, what happens is the engine has to change to accomodate the cooling system.

Change is kryptonite to the shield chuds. Therefore, they're inheritly against it.

>>
>>29055200
The engine only "changes" in that you can have better compression.
>>29055291
I used to watch a ton of LiveLeak/gore as safety training/reinforcement, still have 3 and ride basically every day, but I can absolutely understand someone physically touching all the fucked up crashes riders being averse to them. It's not the same as just looking at that shit on the computer screen.
>>
>>29055332
>its better to have higher compression
fundamentally this is the american vs european engine debate across all disciplines, in the 20th century
American engineering is what is sometimes called the airplane approach. You determine what you want in terms of torque and horsepower, and then you make an engine that does that with the least possible stress. The (continental) european approach to an engine was "okay lets see what the maximum performance we can squeeze from a given size of engine is."
This disparity was present in cars, in motorcycles, in airplanes, and indeed even in certain commercial engine applications.
>>
>>29055367
I'm not asking for 91-93 super cracked out engines every time. I'm saying that a liquid cooled bike that can run on 87 with reasonable service intervals is going to be faster for a given displacement than an air cooled because it'll ping less from excess heat and be able to maintain a more controlled compression ratio. The Twin Cam in particular was a joke of an engine that desperately NEEDED an oil cooler, especially as they bored and stroked it, but Harley refused to see reality in favor of muh style. Fuck, the Triumph 1200 Bonneville engines are SOHC and make nearly 100hp from the same engine size as a fucking Sportster.

bikes went to shit the instant watercooling became the norm. yes, I am including Jap bikes.
>>
>>29053392
Wtf happened to ducati? They used to make beautiful bikes
>>
>>29055367
it's because in Europe (and Japan) there are tax classes based on engine size, usually with 2L being the intended "middle class" displacement and everything above that being prohibitively expensive to own unless you're pretty well off. so Euro engineers optimised around that restriction, with the only way to get acceptable performance out of a 1.3L-2L is to have multiple cams and multiple valves and high rev limits and high compression and forced induction and yadda yadda. it's more complex but that doesn't inherently mean it's superior.
>>
>>29055332
He has a high paying career and probably a wife and children. There 0 reason to risk your life on a donorcycle, though I do know surgeons who ride occasionally. They can afford more expensive toys that won't kill or maim them.

in 2016 cycle world dyno'd the 1200 bonneville at 72 horses. the same year the sporster roadster came out, making 69 horsepower at the wheel. for someone putting on such airs, you don't seem to know very much.

if you think like this you should just never leave your house. why risk it? work remotely, have everything brought to you by door dash immigrant. how do you want to die? how long do you want to live? because the only way to die well is to die with Christ and the only way to live forever is to be with Him in heaven.

>>
>>29053392
the high end ones are really expensive actually. If you crash sport bikes (which happens when you're sporting them) it gets even more expensive. They're a whole different niche of vehicle. I don't own a sport bike anymore, but they have unique properties which cars don't. The braking, accelerating, handling, maneuverability is far different from a car. You can cut between cars much easier. You can literally take it to places that cars are not supposed to go. There's all types of cool stuff bikes can do that cars cannot. I'd love to have one of each, but no longer own a sport bike, just a sports car and a truck.

The one thing that really sucks on a sport bike is getting caught in the rain. A positive thing is that women will ask to take a ride, so you better have a helmet hanging off the back for occasions like that.
>>
if boomers and karens werent trying to ban them, i would totally buy an e-moto specifically because i am poor and they are cheap but can still go on the highway if you put indicators on em
>>
>>29060824
The sound is one of the main attractions to bikes for me. Can’t even imagine hearing nothing but wind and tire noise
>>
>>29060874
it really depends on the car. new cars really insulate outside noise, my 2018 camry i can barely hear the v6 even when i'm flooring it. but in my 89 cressida, while it was still very well insulated and surprisingly quiet on the highway, i could still easily hear the engine over everything. was a good thing too, it sounded really nice and almost like an old muscle car.
>>
>>29060893
Yeah my E34 with the straight 6 was similar. Isolating most of the time and almost silent at idle but makes a great induction sound when you step on it that’s subtle but nice
>>
>>29060874
ebikes honestly aren't fun but they are very good in practical terms for just commuting about. the range is completely sufficient for average urban riding to and from work or the grocery store or w/e

the main issues are road legality, karens complaining about road legality even after you install fancy projection turn signals and 9000lm highbeams, and looking cringe
>>
>>29060805
what are you talking about, retard
>>
They're so much fun, but they 100% will kill or disable you if ride them on the street enough. There are just too many what ifs. I gave up riding about a year ago, and right when I started looking at bikes again, I got rear ended in my Bimmer at a red light. It was annoying, but if I had been on a bike I'd at least have gone to the hospital. Possible paralysis. What the fuck is even worth that? I don't care about dying, I do care about permanent disability though.
>>
>>29062013
This is easily avoidable on a motorcycle
The stats for death are easier to come by than the stats for injury
But the stats for death are, if you ride an average amount in America, and you have the average risk of dying (ie you ride like a total retard) then you have a 0.1% chance of death per year. I consider this very safe.
