911s are retard expensive now. Meanwhile a 2020 PDK 4cyl base Cayman is 50k. Should I go for one instead? I'm not a perfectionist. I just want a decently nice car to drive and look at. Is Cayman viable option now that only arab sheiks can afford 911?

Also I think the car looks so nice in yellow, it just hits right.

It's not cheaper or prettier. Also they're old as shit now and buying old American car is like marrying a 40 year old roastie thinking her ovaries still work as they did 20 years ago. Also you can't drive that American crap during the winter, it's a death trap. You can't daily it.

You think there might be a reason why old Corvettes hold their value and people are giving the Gaymans away? I live in Alberta and I see people with winter tires on their C7 ZR1's driving them year round. Sounds like you have some skill issues.

You can't be planted to the ground on a daily. You'll fuck the car.
>>
>>29055847
>and people are giving the Gaymans away?
Those Caymans increase in price year after year.

Also America doesn't have real winters.
>>
>>29055793
Having the crank face the front like in the Cayman and Boxster makes a lot of physics sense at the cost of backseats, it's why these platforms are considered mid-rear engined, because the mass of the engine is inside the axle. The rearward facing crank of the 911 positions the mass further back than the Cayman and Boxster. You want the flat 6 motor however, imagine paying 50k for a base model 4 banger lol lel lmao
>>
>>29055852
It's true. The American sports cars are death traps half the year and they're not made for turning, just doing drag races like Amerimutts are so fond of. They weigh too much too.

The Cayman you can drive the whole year. Germans build cars to withstand winter roads. Americans don't. Their cars, especially the V8s, are infamous death traps around here.

If EVs actually looked like this, people would like them. Now they all look like Chinese space ships with bloated chassi so they can fit in a huge ass battery. People would kill for normal looking cars with electric motors.
>>
>>29056410
For that, we have to wait until battery tech gets good enough for battery packs to be shrunk to the size of a fuel tank
>>
>>29056412
What's funny is that the 911 EV restoration gives about 200 miles of range on a charge. That's more than enough for a car like the 911. And this is probably not even using the latest cell-to-body technology which increases efficiency by another 30%. I think if Porsche really wanted, they could do it. But the 911 is precious and there's no way in hell they would risk its status as THE petrol enthusiast car. But it's been ruined by hybrid faggotry already anyways so I don't know.
>>
>>29056410
People love big tall cars THOUGH
>>
>>29056413
Nevermind the chassi is carbon fibre why they were able to make it work.
>>
>>29056413
They could just name the hypoythetical electric 911 something else. Like slightly shorten the Taycan and remove the rear doors and call it Taycan Coupe. But they are already making an electric 718 and I don't think there is market for 2 electric sports coupes, with the only difference being one of them being slightly larger and having useless back seats.

Cheaper at entry, but depending on your goals, you're still buying parts and in most cases, paying someone to work on the car. If you're comfortable with DIY, and know how to get cheaper parts via the PCA discount, that's a best case scenario. But even if you bought a base 986 Boxster, it'll add up pretty quickly if you took it to the dealership or most shops for service.

I have had my 987.1 Cayman S for over a year now, and it's treated me very well. I also had my oil analysis done with Blackstone, and received a positive analysis, meaning no engine trouble in the foreseeable future. I like it a lot, but also knew to buy it from a single owner, otherwise these can change hands a lot and it becomes a game of hot potato. It does make all the right sounds, and it's not much slower than my buddies in their 997s.

Show us another picture of a slammed Corvette, even the jannies took out that trash.

To answer the OP's question, I would recommend the 981 Cayman. It won't be as expensive as a 718, and you'll still have a flat-6 no matter which option you end up with. The engines from this generation tend to be the most stout of the bunch. 718s tend to not experience engine trouble, but have pretty brittle water pumps. For what it seems you want, that generation is a nice sweet spot.

I drove a newer double wishbone GT3, CaymenS, e36 M3, e46 M3, e92 M3 V8 and a 1991 Camaro to a fun run autocross day.

The M cars are fucking amazing.
The LS7 swapped 91 Camaro was a bit understeer prone, but super fun.
The GT3 was mind boggling in the braking zones. The rear steer is also a game changer in low speed turns.
The caymen was kind kinda mid.
Even the 91 Camaro was faster, although every car was heavily modified.

The 7 speed manual is very good, v8 sounds fucking amazing, the car traps 128ish in the 1/4, and they have been holding their value better than any cayman under a 4.0

I would buy a Camaro ss 1le over a cayman all day as well, and you can get a very mint low mileage ss 1le with the masterful 60/60 manual for 45k.

>>
>>29055793
Of course you should buy a cayman. The cayman has a much better name than 911. Do you want to drive a number or an whole alligator island?

If you get an even older one from the first generation you have extra money for aftermarket parts (look for some big swellers, bigger and lower bumpers) and some nice rims.
Chances are higher you buy it from an enthusiast who lost all his money to a crypto scam. The car will be cheaper in maintenance.

Then you can repaint it with another official Porsche colors, because yellow… it is not a Lamborghini. Unless you live in Miami or next to the Nürnburgring don’t get a yellow Porsche.
Moreover you just saved 20k to actually visit the Cayman Islands and rent another Porsche there.

Yeah it's going to bomb. The Taycan seems like a better car/EV in every way so only way this sells if it's retard cheap by comparison. But we all know Porsche and that's never going to happen. So it won't find a niche.

I am actually fond of the idea of more coupes as EVs. The problem is that we're still 5-10 years away until battery weight and price issues are solved and we can have a true renassaince for affordable coupes again. Oh and Porsche killing the ICE Cayman means used values will continue to rocket upwards!

You will see stuff like what >>29061547 said all over the internet, but for what it's worth, you can do a bore scope and whatnot prior to the sale. Granted it's not free, but if you want to drive one of these cars, you'll want to protect yourself from the outset. There's about a 10% bore score rate on these engines, but if you get the base model they're relatively worry free. Note that lower mileage cars can still go belly up also. For these types of cars, higher mileage means the internals are good and were used regularly.

Fewer owners, service history, and doing a PPI or checking the car yourself is something you can universally recommend, but moreso on cars like these. Know that whenever you're buying a used performance car, you're going to want to refresh the suspension and other parts on the car, so have that budgeted.
