I drive pic related, and I use it for everything. My criteria are that it must have leather seats, a manual tranny, a big trunk, get tolerable fuel economy and must still look nice/cool to me. Just yesterday I hauled 500kg of tiles in it. I appreciate the extra stuff like cruise control but I feel I could go without it.

>>
>>29058989
It is one of the best ways to listen to music in a car. It is much better than a usb stick or aux since it’s not bottlenecked or compressed, and only on the same level as streaming FLAC or lossless audio from Streaming. Also it forces you to not be a tech illiterate retard so if you want to play something special you have to burn a cd-r of it yourself with Imgburn
>>
>>29058999
So not only are you using CDs, but also burning them as WAVs so you can only fit like 10 songs per CD? Yikes.

>>
>>29059000
Im not saying cds are more practical than usbs, but they have better dynamic range and sound better. You’re either limited by space (1gb) or run time, which is 80 minutes and longer than most people’s entire playlists. I got 21 tracks on a cd. I also have a usb dongle plugged in if I want to use one but I almost never do.

Cds store uncompressed, lossless audio at 1,411 kbps (16-bit/44.1kHz) keeping the original signal without data loss. MP3 files use compression algorithms to cut down file size, capping at 320 kbps, discarding audio data. For quality audio, CDs are way better. They have a higher bitrate and full dynamic range and frequency detail, MP3s sacrifice all this shit so no fucking shit can you store 400songs on a usb while a cd holds fewer. High-bitrate MP3s (320 kbps) may sound ok or identical to a cd but this is only if you play them on a absolute shit goy-tier audio system, and my shit is NOT goy-tier.
>>
>>29059398
CDs store whatever you store into them, holy fuck. You claim to burn your own CDs and never realized you can burn literally any file on your computer into it and even entire directory strucutures and it'll work, just like any other digital storage medium? Also I guarantee you you've never in your life handled uncompressed audio.

if you really cared about pristine audio quality you'd listen on a $600 pair of studio monitors instead of dumping 10 grand into tube preamps and braided cables that color the sound
the people that mixed the music you're listening to did it with the intent that people would be listening to an ultra compressed mp3 through their phone speakers btw
it's ok to like the character that certain things impart, but to pretend its anything other than subjective is absurd
>>
>>29059451

>>
>>29059456

it's the kind of shit you only pick up on when you're doing A/B tests on studio gear in a quiet environment, meaning, not the way any normal person engages with music
really though, there's no substitute for live music and I would much rather keep the money I'd spend on hifi gear for concert tickets

I don’t want to call it early, but my seats, mirrors, sunroof and windows are electric and I also have heated seats and AC, nothing on it ever broke except for a bulb that burned out under the a button I had to replace and that was pretty easy

I kinda have an all in one but I have a specialist car too.
All in one:
Capable offroader
Reliable
Mechanically simple enough to wrench on
Not too heavy on fuel
Fairly comfortable
Room for 4 or 5 adults

Looks alright
Unintended bonus is that it can tow and haul

Extremely comfortable
Beautiful
Simple enough to work on

In my opinion it's like modifying a plane to be a submarine. There are so many other things you could modify your car to excel at.
I'm not sitting in my car trying to pick apart the intricacies of a mix, I just want to hear the song, and 99% of music produced in the last 80 years is made with the expectation that it will be listened to over the radio on ordinary car speakers.
I guess I just have a hard time understanding the logic of someone who engages with music in a way that they feel they are missing out on anything meaningful if they don't listen to every song in perfect uncompressed quality on hifi grade equipment every single time. I would much rather take a barely noticeable hit to fidelity for easy access to more music.

i may soon have the tools to be able to fab up stuff like pedal boxes and maybe even crossmember mounts, so manual swapping on that level isn't completely out of the question either. If they do what toyota does and use the same chassis so it's simply a matter of collecting the appropriate parts then bolting in i definitely can do that. At that point the next concern then is ease of getting service parts for the car in general.
>>
>>29058999
>>29059281
geez. you're going on about compression, quality etc. in a CAR. one of THE absolute last environments to be concerned about audio quality on that level.
>>
>>29059539
Understandably cars should be tuned for power primarily but audio is for enjoyment and long trips somewhere (at least for me). You said you were fine with just hearing the song, but imagine you had a song you really liked, wouldn’t you rather be able to hear it clearly while driving, and not have it sound like it’s playing on a toy phone? Especially if you’re sitting in the car for a while? My biggest problem is music sounding flat, like it’s a mono wall. So good tweeters and some woofers that play stronger mid bass frequencies make it sound deeper and more full to my autistic ass, but you have to figure out speaker placements so the frequencies don’t cancel each other out as well so you don’t get that mono wall again. Frequencies and sound waves of certain lengths also really affect the mind of people, that’s why extremely loud long wave noises like wind tire them out. If you manage to insulate your cabin well you don’t need to crank up the tunes as much just to hear it over the engine/road/wind noise and for me this makes all the difference when on a long road trip as it reduces fatigue. Car audio is about comfort, and I want to be able to sit for hours in my car on the highway. Not everyone cares for that comfort and that’s ok
>>
>>29058999
road noise is undoing any attempts at hifi in the car. its literally 60db of self noise added to whatever youre listening to
>>
>>29059808
I'm pretentious about music like you wouldn't believe. Genuinely a massive fucking snob, a true believer in the healing power of music and all that, but I've never been in a car listening to the radio thinking
>This just simply will not do

I'm also kind of able to just play back a song in my mind, so maybe I'm filling in the gaps or something because I already know what the song sounds like? idk
>>
>>29059443
The argument was not that mp3s sound good or not, but whether CDs have magical properties that make audio files stored in them sound better.
>>
>>29059859
No I was 100% arguing that anon is not hearing the difference between MP3 and FLAC on his car stereo while driving down the road. It's hard for trained ears to pick up on the difference when you're A/B testing in an ideal environment.
>>
>>29059862
I don't care what you're arguing, the original argument started because the "audiophile" guy insisted that music stored on CDs sounded inherently better than that same music stored on an USB stick. Also arguing about mp3 vs flac is stupid, he probably cannot tell the difference but also it doesn't fucking matter, storage is cheap enough that carrying flacs around isn't an issue.
>>
>>29059870
>storage is cheap enough that carrying flacs around isn't an issue
unless you insist on carrying them around on CDs lol
>>
>>29059844
You must have driven many cars with good radios then
>>
>>29059874
Now that I think back on it, I think every car I've lived with long term has had whatever higher end factory sound system. That said, my first car had a blown tweeter in the door that would crap out if you had the volume too high and I listened to mp3s off my phone through an aux to cassette adapter. Loved that car, beat the absolute piss out of it for years. I'm really not picky when it comes to that stuff.
>>
>>29058999
>>29059281
I've seen a lot across all these boards, but this is the most incoherent bullshit I've ever read. You do understand that the storage medium isn't the player? A FLAC file on a CD isn't any different from a FLAC file on a USB or played from your phone. 1gb USB sticks? Did you just wake up from a 20 year coma? I have 128gb on a stick that's about 1/2" long. What's next? You're going to upgrade to blueray disks?
>>
>>29059539
>my opinion it's like modifying a plane to be a submarine
As a former submariner, you're not going to believe this, they are piloted exactly like a plane nowadays.
>688 and boomer fags need not comment
>>
>>29060881
That does make sense, but you're still not taking a plane underwater and you're not putting a submarine in the sky
>>
>>29060877
Wow, skipping DVDs just like that.
>>
>>29060877
>1gb usb sticks
No, CD-R discs hold 900mb/1gb of storage, on average usbs hold 16gb or more. My apologies anon, I should have clarified WAV/FLAC is better than mp3 but as most head units cannot handle FLAC or any other file than mp3. This is why I was saying cd > usb as they are guaranteed to work on all systems with a cd slot. I still prefer them out of retarded nostalgia but no problem with USBs provided your system can read their files.
