Is it true that the Toyota 1UZ-FE (4.0L V8) can basically last for ever with some careful DIY maintenance?
>>
No
>>
No, dont buy it or parts for it

>s it true that literally any engine besides one made by Ford, Chevy, or Dodge can basically last for ever with some careful DIY maintenance?
Yes
>>
>>29060303
and the ones made by those three will last forever withOUT the maintenance

My dad has several 400,000+ mile BBC and SBC Chevys.
One Chevy inline 5 at 350K
And a few Toyotas at 370+
>>

Your dad's been ran through by 400k miles of BBC

>that giant monstrosity of an engine with 4 cams
How the fuck you have 4 cams and can’t even make the same power as a shitty 4.8 LS with a single cam that’s half the size externally and 10x easier to work on
God damn Toyota such a shit company >>29060303
Dumbass, my friend has a 6.0 Chevy express van and its got almost 800k miles on it with nothing done to the engine, was used as a work van its entire life, not to mention engines like the 6bt that commonly go to 1mil miles

you fuck dogs in that van

I figured you new fags would make a BBC (big block Chevy) joke.
Too bad y'all are cooked and unfunny.

No one and i mean no one says SBC or BBC
Small block
Big block
You dont need to add chevy if you are tapking to someone who knows even 1% about car engines

>DIY maintenance
>timing belt job
Run one of these without changing that belt and see what happens. inb4 wrenchlet. Your average home gamer is not going to attempt a belt job on one of these.
>>
>>29060197
The tranny will need to be replaced like twice throughout the lifetime of the engine in an LS400. Also the ECU fries itself and needs refurbishing. Other stuff goes wrong.
>>
>>29060337
800k miles of SBC ran on you, or 400k miles of BBC ran on you?
The question of the century
>>
imagine if they used this in supras instead of the shitcloggerJZ
>>
>>29061112
The reason the JZs became so popular was due to their easy tunability. The 1UZ isn't that, it has fuck all for power even back in the day despite how "advanced" it was and you can't squeeze more out of it without breaking stuff.
I mean sure you can get 5 to 600hp with boost and forged internals, but the price will balloon out of hand faster than with a boat anchor JZ
>>
>>29060197
>DIY maintenance
Sounds like that would be the case for any vehicle. Do the maintenance and things will last.

>such a rare occurence it gets an entire website
70 series' surpass this on farmyards and mine sites with 0 fanfare

my toyota daily driver with its 2.0-liter, 150hp engine and supposedly glorious dohc with 4 valves per cylinder is on its last legs at 360000km even with regular 10000km oil changes with full synthetic oil. meanwhile a pushrod V8 would have made double the amount of power and torque and probably lasted a longer time before needing a rebuild. I don't get the fags on here obsessing about hp/l and overhead cams.
>>
>>29061501

10,000km is not ideal for oil changes

Just because something is pushrod and whatever doesnt mean it's metal is any more durable. In my country we can easily kill any and everything before 100,000 miles because we dont maintain shit and abuse it all the time.
>>
>>29061146
some new rods and a uz can get up to 600 pretty reliably
jz just has a turdlump block the people throw a shit ton of parts and a bigger turbo at

>road kill
Do Americans really memorise and brag about every animal they kill with their motor?

>giant monstrosity
Have you ever seen one in person? It's only wider than an LS by a couple inches.

DOHC really does live rent free in LS owners heads.

>>
>>29062043
>No?
Idk, I just went out and measured, and the 1UZ came in at 27.5. I checked a couple MOPAR smallblocks, and they were about 26.5 with headers 26.25ish with manifolds. I know they're not LS engines, but a smallblock is a smallblock is a smallblock and should be close, right? On the UZ, the manifolds are tucked up pretty close under the cylinder heads.
>>
>>29062429
LS's are ~21-26'' wide. Look at a 1UZ swapped BRZ/86 compared to a LS swapped BRZ/86. There's a pretty big difference. A 1UZ makes no sense what so ever when a physically smaller engine is packing an extra 2-3 liters.
>>
>>29062043
I love these comparison photos that always have belts and a/c etc on the non LS engine
>>
>>29060358
>How the fuck you have 4 cams and can’t even make the same power as a shitty 4.8 LS with a single cam that’s half the size externally and 10x easier to work on
1UZ was made during the 90s when there was the le gentlemans agreement
If you want to poop on DOHC engines than the 2UR makes 475hp which mogs a shitty 295hp 5.7l sbc so cope and seethe
>>
>>29062876
No doubt you should just LS swap it unless you really want to keep it Toyota, but I'm just saying it isn't THAT huge.

That Toyota engine doesn't have an A/C compressor either... Those stick out on every engine ever so it's irrelevant. The rest of the accessory drive doesn't stick out past the valve covers.

>>29062913
It's kind of huge when it's bigger than a LS which isn't really small. It's displacement to physical size ratio just makes it so pointless compared to an LS.
>>
>>29062916
anon that took some measurements here. The manifolds stick out just barely beyond the AC compressor on the UZ.
