>In Europe, owning a rebadged VW Jetta with a huge grill is a flex
Just save your money and buy a Skoda Octavia it's the same thing lmao
>>
>>29061136
you're a rebadged volkswagen jetta
>>
I don't think anyone thinks A3 is a flex here. But theres literally just four compact sedans sold in Europe anymore: A3, Mazda 3, A class sedan and Corolla sedan
>>
>>29061136
Jettas dont come with v8s or superchargers
And who is buying an audi to flex? People like Audis because they arent flashy and vulgar. Buy a BMW or Merc if you want attention.
>>
>>29061137
no u
>>
that's an A4 it hasn't been a rebadged jetta since I wanna say 2008 or so they switched to MLB platform so its longitudinal engines whereas jetta/golf is the shittier MQB platform that uses transverse engines.

>>29061139
theoretically a3 and a class are subcompact

c class would be compact

blacks, jews

Friendly reminder audi made a family station wagon (also available in sedan form) with carbon ceramics, a dry sump v10, twin turbos, DCT, and quattro awd.
>>
>>29061148
yeah but it had barely any torque and wasn't even that fast
>>
>>29061161
It'll kiss 200mph with the limiter off
>>
>>29061145
>longitudinal engines
even quattro a4s are transversal, no? dont they use haldex (which is transversal only?)
>>
>>29061148
legitimately one of the coolest cars ever and it sucks that it's impossible to own one nowadays.
>engine out to change ignition coils
>5k consumables
>>
>>29061177
Its not impossible if you are an insane person with a lot of money. ,VAG technic' on YT has a series building his aiming for 1000bhp, replete with multiple engine outs to get everything right. The engineering of these cars is legitimately insane. They shoved an awd twin turbo v10 in a car the size of a Toyota camry.
>>
>>29061166
well, then it's all high-rpm top end unusable power, didn't sell well either and they went right back to v8 after a few years

>>29061175
no, a4 and larger are all longitudinal and mlb platform based except evs
this myth of "real and fake quattro" I've never once seen explained except some people consider the wheel-splitting torque control software some of the higher end models have to be a different kind of AWD but its all a clutch pack and electronic now I think
haldex usually was a mechanical system they had in the 90s and 2000s iirc
>>
>>29061186
The quattro system they used in the higher trim models like the RS cars is allegedly a legitimate mechanical awd system with a 40 60 rear bias. The only electronic control is in cars equipped with a rear sport diff for torque vectoring. They'll still oversteer at the limit, but they are built to handle well below the limit and make usable power in all conditions, not neccesarily to set lap times.
>>
>>29061188
So the "realness" is based on the torque split?
I'm pretty sure the torque vectoring is just individual wheel braking controlled by software and not any sort of actual differential.

I would be really surprised if Audi doesn't use electromechanical clutches for its AWD at this point, I think you are mistaken.

of course if you have a fuckton of money it's doable, but for the average car enthusiast you can't swing an aging car with complex mechanicals and supercar-level maintenance costs. which sucks because i fucking love these.

>I'm pretty sure the torque vectoring is just individual wheel braking controlled by software and not any sort of actual differential.
In the cars with a sport diff they use electronic control to put more power to the outside rear wheel and push the car through a corner. Those diffs actually have a split case that has ATF in one side and gear oil in the other. Other than that, the entire awd system is mechanical; true for the cars with quattro gmhb vin plates like the RS models. I cant speak on the normal audi models since I have not studied those.
>>29061193
Im the guy aggressively simping for an RS5 that I want. I know audis are a filter car because of their complexity, but I wouldnt put up with it for anything else.
>>
>>29061197
only thing i can say is that i wish i could own a cool audi anon. they're comically expensive to buy here, even more expensive to maintain.
i fucking love them, the "understated but fast as fuck car" thing rules
>>
>>29061148
these cars sound good on paper until all of that shit breaks. I'll stick to V8 RWD with a six speed manual the way good intended.

>>29061215
My problem is all cars that fit that criteria have something about them i dislike, which leads logically to swapping something, which i also dont want to do because its always going to be inferior in some ways to a factory vehicle. In the RS5s case its perfect out of the box, so all I need to do is maintain it the way the manufacturer intended.
>>29061201
>i fucking love them, the "understated but fast as fuck car" thing rules
I know, I love it. The interiors for audis of this era are so good too.
>>
>>29061197
S4/5 of that generation also have 40:60 and could be optioned with the sport diff. the supercharged cars can be given a flash to be nearly as fast as the RS5 and much faster with a couple of bolt ons. RS5 will still always sound and look much better and that 8300 redline is amazing, but the S cars came in stick still. I think if they had not gone DCT only the B8 RS4/5 would be quite valuable
>>
>>29061145
>theoretically a3 and a class are subcompact
In America
In Europe, the car segments are shifted by one
A3 is compact in EU, subcompact in NA
A4 is mid size in EU, compact in NA
A6 is full size in EU, midsize in NA
A8 is limousine or something like that in EU, full size in NA
An Audi that's subcompact according to EU standards would be the A1

I drove a v8 s5 of this generation and I found it pretty underwhelming (tbf it may have had some issues sapping power as it had a CEL), but critics who have driven both it and the RS5 had the same criticisms of the s5 as I did, and the RS allegedly corrects all of those problems.
>the supercharged cars can be given a flash to be nearly as fast as the RS5 and much faster with a couple of bolt ons.
Im well aware, the v6ts are immensely capable but I really need that v8. I dont care that its a bit slower, or doesnt take to mods as well since I intend to keep it stock.
> I think if they had not gone DCT only the B8 RS4/5 would be quite valuable
I totally get why this is a criticism since most enthusiasts want manual for everything, and tbf it would have likely been an instant classic if this was the case. In my use case the dct is perfect, and im the type of schizo that prefers at least one manual in my fleet for daily use but am ok with an auto/dct for a weekend car. I can cruise mindlessly and care free when I choose to, but also have a gearbox that allows me to actually engage with the engine and play with it. The downshifts on these make me coom.
>>
>>29061148
>DCT
No, it had the ZF 6HP
Besides, the real issue isn't even the cost of the parts and having to take the engine out, because those are just limited by how much time and money you have, it's the replacement parts not being available at all.
Top Dead Center recently had a C6 RS6 saga, and they couldn't get new shocks for a car with the active suspension, so they had to get coilovers for an S6 and delete active suspension system completely. They also had to jump through hoops to get a new set of 10 injectors. They also couldn't find a replacement RS6-specific headlight. Granted, there are less RHD cars than LHD so it makes sense that it'd be harder to get, besides I'm pretty sure you could always just put in a headlight from an A6/S6, but still.
>inb4 but they bought the cheapest example on the market for the content, so obviously it was a turd
True, but almost all of that stuff is something even a good good example would need eventually.
>>
>>29061275
Im hoping this takes a while to happen with the b8/8.5 platform. Audi doesn't have the best history when it comes to parts availability on their halo models. Apparently US cars outside the A8/S8 never got the fancy suspension system.

Peak 2000s horsepower war insanity
the S6 was about as insane by having the exact same V10, but to share the parts with the Gallardo and R8.

>broo everyone needs to see me in a hecking boyracer car to know im a car enthusiast!!!
This is why I like audis, especially the RS line. Its a car for knowers. An otherwise normal looking car with fat fuck 8 piston brembos and 400-500hp+, that gets ignored by cops and stupid teenagers. Supremely based if you ask me.

>>
>>29061289
Less than you think. Block casting and maybe heads yes, but basically everything else is different.
No dry sump, lower compression, different cam profiles, different accessory drive and timing covers, even the crank is different (LP Gallardo/R8 use straight crank pins, S6/S8 get 18° offset crank pins so they're even-firing like early Gallardos).
>>
>>29061566
The twin turbo rs6 did have a dry sump. It couldn't fit into the c6 platform otherwise
>>
>>29061634
Specifically talking S6/S8 here, those are wet sump blocks.
