Inside a '74 Mustang II, this apparently a three digit S/N and probably one of the earliest produced. The first year Mustang II was also infamous for having no V8; Ford quickly brought it back in a year after extensive complaints.

it's just a Pinto with a different body
>>
>>29062428
My friend offered me a Mustang II for $35. I declined.
>>
>>29062454
Its like a stretched and refined pinto.
And the pinto was a great car.
Which makes the Mustang II an excellent car.
>>
>>29062512
I learned to drive stick in a Pinto. It was a piece of shit that my father got in trade for a case of beer.

it was a poorly thought-out economy measure, though had nothing to do with the OPEC embargo as Ford couldn't have know that would happen (the embargo started in fall '73 just as '74 models were arriving in showrooms).

I saw one of these for the first time in ages yesterday. I forgot how frumpy they are. Disgusting.
>>
>>29062522
The Pinto was exactly what Lee Iaccoca meant it to be, which was a $1,500 car that cost $1,500 to build.

engine compartment mostly looks in good shape aside from those plastic bags that got in there somehow. two of those vacuum hoses seem to have cracks in them but afaik those are emissions hoses you could just get rid of and needn't bother replacing.
>>
>>29062563
Smog hoses get hot so it's not uncommon for them to crack and the ones in that Mustang are probably rubber. Silicone has better heat resistance but that may have not even been in use yet in the 70s. As you said though, they're not a critical component and can just be removed.

>and blah blah blah exploding...
The gas tank behind the rear axle was a very normal small car setup at that time.
>>
The Mustang II was just bringing back the original Gen 1 Mustang after it spent some years as a bloated muscle car. It only got bad press because of boomers who didn't like that it was no longer a bloated muscle car.

just avoid California where all cars made in 1974 and later are subject to biennial smog tests

This was back when companies actually gave a shit about feedback. Getting your buddies to send letters doesn't cut it anymore, now it takes sharting all over their stocks and spamming clown emojis on twitter like a retard to raise the chances of them listening by 1%.

All it took was a nasty write-up in Motor Trend or dealers reporting to the factory that customers were upset at the lack of a V8.
>>
>>29062615
too bad if people had been as energized about writing to their Congressmen back theb calling for the extirpation of the EPA.

>>29062565
yeah fuck this shit
>>
>>29062428
the size of the flywheel on that AC compressor is absolutely insane
>>
>>29062568
Despite everything, it's still a sexy car.
>>
>>29062569
The gas tank safety issue was unintentionally fixed in 74 when 5 mph bumpers were added and Ford had to extend the frame rail a little bit which had the side effect of putting more distance between the tank and the rear of the car.
>>
>>29062615
or in the case of GM removing a protruding steering hub from 50s Cadillacs after that took Sammy Davis Jr.'s eye out
>>
>>29062640
later Pintos are a bit safer than the early 71-73 models but also slower and less fun due to smog and 5 mph stuff
>>
>>29062428
that's a V6 I think?
>>
>>29062428
Real mustangs have a v8 with a manual transmission
>>
>>29062712
all you had to do was wait until 75 to get that back lol
>>
>>29062712
go away newgen
>>
>>29062735
S550 is the best overall
>>
>>29062738
Yet you're still a faggot
>>
>>29062712
Act normal and don't be disruptive.

>Davis was driving his new '54 Cadillac around Los Angeles on November 26, 1954 when he collided with a delivery truck at an intersection. He was thrown forward and his left eye impaled on the protruding steering wheel hub. Davis lost the eye and had to wear a glass prosthetic eye afterwards.

>Although GM did not offer any explanation for the change, the protruding hub was removed from the steering wheel on '56 Cadillacs.
>>
>>29062773
Figures. They only changed it because some celebrity got injured. If it was any of yours or my relatives nothing would happen because they were just low income nobodies.
>>
>>29062628
>too bad if people had been as energized about writing to their Congressmen back theb calling for the extirpation of the EPA.

Since you mentioned it, '74 was also when they had the one year seatbelt interlock that would prevent the engine from starting if the driver's seatbelt wasn't buckled. That lasted one year for a reason.
