Talk me out of getting a hybrid car /o/
>>
Why? Toyota hybrid is the most sensible car you can buy in 2026. The Prius even looks better than a Ferrari.
>>

Why not just buy a manual toyota echo/yaris, mitsubishi mirage, or suzuki swift? you don't have to worry about a gay battery, and they almost have hybrid MPGs. far better than hybrid scam IMO.

>b-but those cars make bitches dry
so would hybrids.
>>
>>29062507
Why? I kinda enjoy 45-50mpg in my non plugin hybrid. I wish it were a plugin that tried to stay on battery more but I assume a 60mpg in-town vehicle would wreck the market.
>>
>>29062507
Why? Nothing wrong with a hybrid for a commuter car. Lets you save more money for your fun car.
>>
Don't do it.

Th PHEV needs a revolution, currently there is no point to get it over regular hybrid imo. Change something radically, maybe your idea is the way to go, much bigger battery for example, idk. It needs a drastic change. My prediction is that EV main, small ICE generator is the future of this segment. We will see

I've heard anecdotally from both dealership service managers, engineers, and even PHEV owners the MAJORITY of them are simply never plugged in. Like to the point where owners didn't know they could plug it in, or simply never saw the point in it because they could simply put gasoline in the tank which it needed every week anyway. I don't think it needs a bigger battery, it needs a more compelling reason like I said of having it be primarily powered by the battery and only having the gas engine take over at high speeds or long drives. Similar to the original chevy volt, it got insane mpgs if you used it like an EV but still had a gas engine for long trips. But most people don't want to park their car, plug it in to an outlet OR unplug it from an outlet before driving off again. Its a point of friction very few will want to deal with multiple times a day all to save $1.37 on their fuel cost.

Hybrids are for stupid people. Either get a full BEV or get a gas car.
>>
>>29062507
make sure you get a toyota if you do, they have a super bulletproof transmission on those
>>
>>29062546
Yeah, there have been some studies in the EU that suggest that the rated fuel efficiency of most PHEVs is a drastic overestimation. If people could actually charge their cars as consistently as PHEV fuel consumption ratings assume, they might as well buy an EV. Many of them spend way more of their time running on the gasoline engine than assumed.

Though people who do religiously charge their PHEVs face another problem: In a cold environment, a gasoline engine that only runs a small % of the time and never gets hot tends to develop corrosion issues. Spend a year driving around like that and your engine may be fucked.
So-called full hybrids probably don't have this problem since they end up running the engine a lot more, and usually manage to get it hot during the commute.

Good luck finding one, let alone buying one.

if you buy it you will start farting out 5 dildos every day

Ford developed their hybrid system in tandem with Toyota. They've been using that system for decades now in Escapes that are commonly reaching 300k miles in NYC traffic. The transmissions (H45 in early escapes) then H55 in current Escapes and Mavericks are known to basically be bomb proof.

They're only 215 horsepower so they're not speedy, but its ample for commuting.

Does mazda have good EVs?

>ford escape comes with a 2.5L atkinson cycle engine and a E-CVT, with a set of planetary gears and electric motors
cool i didnt know ford made their own prius
>>
>>29062611
They're phenomenal engines and transmissions. They're only in the Escape and Maverick (basically the same thing) which is odd because if they brought back the focus, fusion, or any other sedan, I would assume it'd trade blows with the Prius for MPGs.

Odd that Ford basically basically abandoned "cars" other than the Mustang. Seems like with a Focus, Fusion, hell even a Fiesta with that same hybrid drivetrain they'd have something that could in theory compete with the Prius.
>>
>>29062627
The Fusion and Cmax had the same set up. It's basically the same except the engine is only 2.0 instead of 2.5 but it's the same Mazda duratec.
>>
>>29062571
I would have but I couldn't afford the Prologue (which is also being discontinued). So I got a hybrid civic instead.
>>
>>29062598
The escape has its own issues. To the point where ford sells replacement rear shock mounts/wheel wells at the parts counter. Also if you go too long without changing the plugs and it starts misfiring it can damage the ECU and require a replacement. And the replacement ECU only has a warranty if you have proof of replacing the plugs and coils at the same time.
>>
>>29062922
They discontinued the prologue because it's mechanically a Chevrolet
>>
>>29062571
They're the perfect solution for the daily driver problem. Motors provide just enough extra efficiency without needing turbos or a cvt. And EV mode is super convenient for any time you need to drive short distances. You don't have to crank up the engine if it's just a short distance.
>>
>>29062571
This is true. Don't be a tranny, get a pure driveline. I hated my PHEV so much.
>>
>>29062518
PHEV are probably a bad idea for the long haul. Out of all EVs they treat the battery the worst (having you charge it 85-100% then drain it to 20% each day), a regular hybrid typically just keeps the battery at 40-60%.

Then you have to deal with the mental anguish of having a weaker EV mode but you're trying to get everything done without touching gas. Then you have old rotting gas. Then you have a lower volume vehicle with a less common battery, while the base model Toyotas are all hybrids and batteries will be in the junkyard to pull.
>>
>>29062611
They've been in use as taxis with 500k miles just like prius. They have their own issues (ford fit and trim is just shittier) but the drivetrain isn't one.
>>
>>29062507
Make your own decision like a man you puss.
>>
I wish my expedition max had a hybrid available but it doesn't and at the current time in my life I need the literal biggest suv I can buy
>>
>>29063228
Yes a PHEV is the worst of both worlds.
