Surprisingly well, did the water pump too. I sheared the head off the main crank / dampener bolt, taught me how to extract bolts. Everything came back together and I drove it for 10 more years.

Thats nice, what bolt extraction procedure did you opt for? I know crank bolts are a nightmare so can something go wrong even if you lube it well using some elite spray?

It was 18 years ago. I think I tapped a little indent in it, drilled with a tiny drill bit, then used those one of the wild looking fluted extractors from vatozone on a powerful drill.

Never owned anything with a belt.

Without a hitch, actually.

stressful but rewarding, lost my timing belt virginity to a 2001 mazda maita.

Last recorded belt change was 8,000 miles ago in July of 2014, but seeing as it's non-interference, I'm just gonna wait until it snaps. Wish me luck~!

Great. I was a 16 y/o wrenchlet who bought a $900 944 and had to learn what I was doing the whole way (thanks Clarks Garage). That shitbox taught me how to work on stuff and now I do it for a living.
