Chrysler was more of a sedan company back then and they sold fewer two door cars and convertibles than Ford and GM. Their 50s engine roster is also very large and confusing.
>>
>>29063745
they had a common engine roster but each of the four divisions modified them for their particular needs

A sedan from 1955 is getting gapped by a modern car, huh. I never would have saw this coming.

I feel like I'm in a smoky middle class bar in what I imagine 1955 to be and people are swaying around to the music.
Not a bad song, not great.
>>
>>29063784
that accident was probably about 30 mph lol
>>
>>29063786
In that time you would have probably heard jazz or torch song stuff in a bar. This pop music slop was for kids, adults didn't listen to those kind of records.
>>
>>29063758
Yes. I could pretty much recall every Ford and GM engine from the 50s from memory, but Chrysler engines I'd need Wikipedia for.

Slop wasn't a thing back then.

It was, lol. The 50s were notorious for it.

Or country. Jazz was more an urban coastie sound.

55 was a windfall year for car sales in the US, also the first year when sales of automatic transmission vehicles exceeded manual ones.

I like driving at night while listen to archived recordings of radio broadcasts from around the same years as my cars.

don't these boomer cars need leaded gas additives?
>>
>>29063862
not if the engine has been rebuilt with hardened valve seats

For normal driving, no, only high comp performance engines from 1955 to '72 ever needed leaded gas. A standard grocery getter engine does not.
>>
>>29063786
I was thinking more of the Gene & Eunice original than Como's cover.

>>29063862
As a general rule, yes, but it can depend on the engine. Engines that use aluminium heads already require valve seat inserts, and a surprising chunk of those inserts are already hard enough to not need an additive, such as in the case of my Rover V8, FIAT 500, and 280ZX engines. Iron headed engines, though, will generally always require hardened seats, as the factory seats are usually cut directly into the head.

>>29063866
No? Even regular grocery getters can and will produce temperatures that cause seat recession.
>>
>>29063951
>>29063866
I should add that some engines retain "leaded memory" and will run on unleaded unfazed for a time due to the localised hardening from all those years running leaded, but it doesn't last forever, and if the valves or seats get re-cut or lapped, then they lose that protection and will fail in short order.
