Engines that use aluminium heads already require valve seat inserts, and a surprising chunk of those inserts are already hard enough to not need an additive, such as in the case of my Rover V8, FIAT 500, and 280ZX engines. Iron headed engines, though, will generally always require hardened seats, as the factory seats are usually cut directly into the head.>>29063866No? >>29063951>>29063866I should add that some engines retain "leaded memory" and will run on unleaded unfazed for a time due to the localised hardening from all those years running leaded, but it doesn't last forever, and if the valves or seats get re-cut or lapped, then they lose that protection and will fail in short order.
