>>
>>29064640
a lot of it is intrusive and makes you think more about how to work around it than when you don't have it
for example, esc, if you are a shit driver in a cuckover watching tiktoks from a phone embedded between your legs it'll safely understeer you into a ditch if you fuck up, but if you are a good driver in a low car that won't tip over from a little turn it will understeer you into a ditch instead of letting you power through it in a controlled 4-wheel slide and remain on the road
the only valid driver aid is abs, and even that, only on asphalt, you get into snow or gravel and its predictably unpredictable nature will, again, not let you control the car in the way you need to remain on the road
and that's simple stuff from 20 years ago, all the self-driving shit like lane assist gets booted the moment you plop your ass into the driver's seat

I follow traffic better than my ACC can, and I get better mileage than it can. I also bought my ACC-equipped car for a fraction of it's new MSRP too and it's definitely not why I bought it lol. I had to disable the emergency braking shit too, since every time a car in front of me is signaling and about to turn, the fucking thing thinks I'm about to wreck since it doesn't realize the car ahead is signaling and in the process of getting out of my way.

Statistically, people who use these features get into far less accidents. If you've used them it's pretty obvious that they would reduce a ton of accidents. But then again, we got people who think vaccines cause illness, global warming isn't real and man-made, and we didn't go to the moon.

American cheese has to be pasteurized by law. There are cheeses like brie where that removes most of the flavor that makes it brie. Even the stuff that's made in France and imported has to be made fully-pasteurized.

Aren't those mostly harmless or even nice to have? Wait until you drive a car with Euro regulation ADAS. Lane assists, driver attention monitoring, automatic emergency braking, etc. activated on every start.
The better implementations barely work at all for at least half the year here since everything is covered in water, snow and/or mud, including the sensors. If you're lucky, they just distract you with beeps. Some really shitty minimum effort compliance cars are basically actively trying to kill you since they can't make any sense of what's going on, and might mistake a lump of snow for a lane marking that absolutely must not be crossed (e.g. by taking over the power steering to steer the car into the ditch).

OP didnt bother reading the article further?

To quote a comment from article.
>I was driving my new-to-me EV home from the dealer, on a 4-lane state/rural highway at 65mph. There was a little service road just off to the right with a 25mph speed limit sign. The car's camera "saw" this sign and hit the brakes pretty hard. That's when I shut all the nannies off.
Then a video of Ford with a malfunctioning automatic emergency brake.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoIq-NToo7k

I agree with them. ADAS systems like lane keep assist, automatic emergency brake are stupid features that should have never been added into cars. Safety is overrated. Freedom and driving fun is more important than safety. Only true beneficial ADAS systems in cars are TCS, ABS, EBD, ESC, CSC because these systems help the driver at the last moment keep the car in drivers control just enough to turn a dangerous situation to a close call, giving the driver a little" oh shit that was close" and not interfering the situation too early, also not annoying the driver with excessive amount of beeps.

>oh, and you paid thousands of dollars extra for it too.
Those are forced into cars by democrap government, also europoo uninion. Politicians that should have never been allowed to regulate cars features. These morons are why most of new cars are garbage, complicated mobile smart phones on wheels instead of mechanically simple, reliable cars with minimum amount of computer controlled parts that almost everybody can maintain/repair at home. Too much risk-averse and submissive people(who want government to like replacement of father/mother), too much safety, civilization are ruining the world and most of fun.
>>
>>29064729
It's not harmless. It increases the cost of new vehicles and makes repairs more expensive. New windshield? Time to recalibrate your sensor. Oh and only dealerships can do that and it costs $800. Don't want to pay for a recalibration? Have fun with the incessant warnings that the sensor isn't calibrated every time you turn on the car.

except unlike vaccines, we can safely and ethically experiment with driver aids
from my experience with ice lake track days, i know for sure that i'm much faster and more controlled on ice with assists off, and faster means that i can go normal speed with a larger margin for error
an average person will not be, so it is correct to have driver aids to be opt-out, rather than either opt-in or non-negotiable

Instead of government mandating more ADAS systems into cars. They should just ban the infotainment/touchscreen systems from cars because infotainment is major drivers distraction device that takes drivers eyes off the road for too long times, also slows down drivers reaction times. In a worse cases even causes car to sway between the lanes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-NalNqNRKk
It makes no sense to me that you are not allowed to use phone while driving, but you are still allowed to use cars built in infotainment touchscreen despite it being just as distracting and dangerous as using a phone.

Also they should expand drivers distraction law so additionally it would so ban & ticket drivers from holding other items too in their hands than just a cellphone. The driver should not be even allowed to smoke a tobacco while driving a car.
>>
>>29064640
They probably don't trust the tech.
They think anything that takes control from you can malfunction and get you killed.
>>
>>29064816
My insurance covers that, though.

It's not even legal to block independent shops from carrying out such work here. The car's maintenance documentation and records must be accessible to non-dealer shops, too. Also, work done in independent shops is not a valid reason for denying warranty claims.
I think FCA/Stellantis tried to challenge EU 2018/858 in court at some point but failed, so at this point most car makers are reluctantly complying with it.

>it randomly tries to jerk the wheel into oncoming traffic
How worn were the markings? I've seen some cars mistake roads for single lanes when they couldn't see the lines.
In my experience, Toyotas usually just give up and return to normal steering, but a rental Audi I drove once kept forcing itself into the center of the road with surprising force. Took some multitasking to keep driving so I wouldn't get rear ended on the curvy road, while forcing the steering wheel into the correct position, while tapping the touchscreen to find the settings to disable the fucking suicide assist.
>>
>>29064640
I simply do not buy cars from this century.
>>
>>29064640
Depends on the system.
My 2025 Civic flashes a giant orange BRAKE on the screen sometimes when I don't brake while coming up behind somebody who's stopped, but only once has it ever actually actuated the brakes and it was because somebody came out of a side street.
Meanwhile my friend has a 2023 Subaru and it fucking slams on the brakes at every opportunity. I've seen it happen multiple times, it's like anything gets in the camera's view and it feels the need to step on the brakes.
If I had his car I'd have shut that shit off day 1. I did shut off the speed limit recognition and driver awareness system day 1 in my car though.
>>
>>29065034
I was driving a family members car and had to turn the lane departure thing off because I was merging onto the highway and it slammed on the brakes when I was going over the close-dashed lines getting on the highway. I guess it was because I didn't use the turn signal so it thought I was leaving a lane, but who the fuck uses a signal merging on the highway, there's only one place you can go.

I guess you are one of those stupid zoomers that was born after 2000 so you missed all the experiences of how unreliable computers, smart phones used to be because multiple different software errors and operation system crashes. Todays 2020+ cars computers are not much different, they still have software issues that can malfunction, many of these stupid modern ADAS do have it. We do disable these ADAS system and will never fully trust on computers in cars and other machines that can cause our injury or death. We never wanted any of these ADAS systems into our cars.

Computers dont belong into cars period. Only total retards want cars to be automated, full of computers and ADAS systems. These are the types of people that should be shot to death because they are too stupid to drive cars and some of them even think that they should have an ability to do non-driving related things in moving cars examples texting, reading books or magazines, watching videos, doing make ups, smoking tobaccos, brushing their teeth etc.. things that they should be doing at their homes, friends or close relatives houses, job places. Never ever in cars.

Adaptive cruise control isn’t available on 15yo base model shitboxes, but trust me, it’s nice.

>speed limit 70
>cruise set to 75
>come up on two cars both going 65, taking up both lanes
>adaptive cruise control slows me down to match them
>stays at a proper distance
>retard in the left lane finally speeds up to 80 for some reason
>I get in the left lane
>acc speeds me back up 75
>back to the right lane to keep cruising
>guy pulls in front of me because his exit is coming up
>slows way down
>can’t pass because cars in the left
>acc matches his speed
So yeah, it’s nice.

It’s even more important for retard drivers who don’t understand proper following distance. That’s probably why people don’t use it; so they can follow too closely to the car in front of them.

personally im grateful that the stupidest of the stupid might avoid hitting me if im not paying attention enough to avoid them because of radar activated breaking in a left turn or failing to slow down at a light. i trust the tesla robot to not hit me 1000x more than I trust any given driver

i've only ever used it in a borrowed Kia but this was my experience, passed into a construction zone where the white lanes were doubled up and it just vaguely gently tried to redirect me

Look close kids, THIS is how you bait.

I turn off my abs automatically without even realizing it every single time I start my car
That shit is so stupid and useless
>oh you hit the gas and your front tires almost barely slipped so we're going to slam the brakes hard but on and off and on and off abruptly instead of letting you go fast like you meant to do and ignore the tiny bit of slip because it literally doesnt matter at all

I swear to god this shit is made for retards who cannot drive at all

What happens in 5-10 years when all these electric cars batteries die and these retards realize they can't afford to piss money away like this anymore?

you really dont seem to know the state of the technology or the market
batteries lose, being very liberal, 10% of their capacity every 100k miles. How many cars make it to 250k, 300k miles where youve meaningfully eaten into the range of the car?

What happened with the cars people bought 5-10 years ago?

it's funny, when i was buying my car the saleman told me a story of an elderly man who came in for a test drive, and returned completely irate, yelling that "these cars are heaps of crap that rattle apart!" someone managed to get out of him that it was the lane keep assist function going off because he kept weaving in and out of his lane, and was so weak it did push him around.

Not only that, I don't use autocorrect when I type, either.
