Pedestrian safety is also one reason why cars headlights are built from plastic, not glass anymore. The non-spoken benefit of the 2002+ non-boxy-body-shape cars aerodynamics redirects the wind/air away from the car, thats what has reduced amounts of insects getting hit by cars windshields because the redirected air at windshield area basically throws many of the insects up or sides of the car so more of the insects will survive instead of getting killed or injured.

If they were, how would non-egg shaped cars exist? How does the Rav4 go from being egg shaped to boxy? How does the Escape get turned into the Bronco Sport? The Civic used to be an actual literal egg and now it's, well it's not boxy but it's just normal car shaped. Also, OP is specifically upset about the rear part of the car. How does that affect pedestrian safety? Clearly, there are other factors at hand. It's the same situation when people with crossover derangement syndrome start crying about cafe killing cars and the poor widdle manufacturers being forced by the big evil government to build crossovers. But if that were true then how does Honda and Toyota and Hyundai manage to still sell sedans? It's almost like it has very little or even nothing to do with regulations.
