Does offroading have an objective? I live on the east coast and all we have are a few offroad parks here or there.Oh and at the beach. So why do people do it?
Can be to challenge your driving skills, your rig, or to get to somewhere that requires offroad driving to get to.
since the invention of the car, people have been wanting to try to take a car places they shouldn't normally be.
Or just to see nature from the comfort of a car seat
I, for the life of me, do not understand "deliberate" off-roading where you just take trails to take them, not to see specific scenic sites, vistas, waterfalls, etc. there's plenty of rough roads where a jeep would be nice, but that's just to get me somewhere I already wanted to go anyways, i would never take a rough road on purpose just to do it or like obstacles or whatever that just seems terrifying
>>29065318You can't convince me that it isn't ultimately some sort of attempt to satisfy a SHTF fantasy for most.
>>29065319>>29065333Well biking and skiing were once just modes of transportation. But a skill element is introduced to make it fun. Driving is the same.
>>29065318It's more fun and expansive if you live near a red area
4 door wranglers are gayyeah i want people to think i'm adventurous and outdoorsy, but i also need to get braxtyn and makaelah to soccer practice, so here goes a half-assed soulless compromisea honda odyssey would be more appropriate since 99.999% of the time it'll never see anything dirtier than a hobby lobby parking lot but mommy has a midlife crisis-induced itch that must be scratched so it's time for hubby to do his duty as a good little beta provider and sign on the dotted linelol death wobble btw
>>29065344lol they get mad if you try to offroad on mon national forest landsthere's tonssssss of atv trails in wv all over but most are not on federal land hell I can't think of any that are>>29065351if you JUST use the jeep for rough roads and have something else for commuting, errands, and highways, it makes sensebut really a pickup towing an atv makes more sense, jeeps are always going to be more compromised than an atv which can just breeze through that shit
>>29065318its fun to see who in a group of guys can go up the sketchiest hill. Even better on two wheels
>>29065420this is not fun to me at allI like seeing pretty viewswhy would i waste time doing macho competition stuff
>>29065318most of the objective is to hang out with friends. Depending on where you are you might be able to drink, which obviously makes it all a lot more fun. See who can drive up that thing, oops you tipped it over, it's ok I have a winch. It's about experiences and teamwork and self-improvement. It's about learning more about your vehicle, by breaking it and fixing it and improving it. It's clean wholesome fun, family friendly but maybe not so wallet friendly.
>>29065344This.Its a little different out west.(Ocotillo pictured)
>>29065463trees are the best part of being outsidethat's desolate bro
>>29065437well it helps when there's a good view at the top :)
>>29065470are you the dirt bike anon from out?there was some guy maybe 2-3 years ago who posted his dirt bike adventuresI don't have the stomach to ride one, but I have been on some rough roads where I've thought, well if you had a dirt bike this would be no problem I wish I had a muleits ok but I prefer views where you can see longitudinally down the length of a river
>>29065318The objective? DOMINATION. Man and machine operating in an octane fueled symphony of branch breaking mud sliding gravel flinging puddles splashing MADNESS conquering one softball sized stone after another idling a mild incline at 3 mph is THE MANIFESTATION OF MANHOODKeep them rigs dirty boys we're jungle tamers LETS SHOW THEM EV SISSIES WHO'S BOSS
>>29065481sissy effeminate gay hereI hate rough roadsI wish everything were wide and paved
Off roading is extremely gay. If you can't throw a light pack on your back and get out there to chill then you don't deserve to see it
It really is nearly useless.Really wild areas other than desert often require clearing brush to drive through, so more out of vehicle work than in vehicle. If it has a trail or road the only reason you need skills to drive it is because it is intentionally made bad or washed out.Dirt bikes were the only real offroad vehicle that allowed going into remote wilderness driving between trees or on animal made trails and they have been banned since the 80s or 90s after intentionally loud exhausts and hill climbers digging ugly ruts scarring the land made nature types hate them. Most other vehicles are too big to do much far from man made roads and trails. Offroad parks are crowded full of idiots and often dusty and collision prone. The massive increase in used truck prices also killed the hobby for teens and young adults, the majority of the market.California smog checks ruin vehicle modding prohibiting most performance mods or the vehicle cannot be registered. The only real use of offroad capability for most people is to drive over curbs, up embankments, or otherwise engage in reckless driving crimes to go where you want. But now we live in a surveilence society so that leads to impounding eventually.
>>29065477ive been posting on and off for a long time but i dont think im that guy. If you've ridden a bicycle its really not that different
>>29065465Pic is a timelapse of Competition Hill at Glamis Dunes. You cant understand until you experience it.
>>29065465This is not an aerial photo BTW.Dumont dunes equivelant of comp hill.

>>29065535Its gets busy.Usually run 3 wide.
>>29065505I do too much like navigating rocky steps and places where if I was on a bike I would diemy coordination isn't that good
>>29065318I'd expound on this >>29065452 by also pointing out that since the journey is difficult, the destination has very few people there. Any strangers you meet have also performed this rite of ascension, this trial by adversity, and are spiritual brothers in a way. In short, we climb mountains because there are no black people at the top.
>>29065488I do both what now
>>29065481How insecure are you in your own identity that this is the lens you see the world through
>>29065318>Google muddin' and what for we do it
>>29065326>I, for the life of me, do not understand "deliberate" off-roadingIt's the people that spend all their time on tarmac that have to go out of their way to justify their purchases.
>>29065326It's challenging to drive and build a rig, and fun especially steep and technical tracks, wet clay, large rocks, ruts, mud, sand and so on.https://youtu.be/2gyBbOhr7HEhttps://youtu.be/WhV5Eg-wGFM
>>29065612You are gay
Why would you want to drive on a shitty bumpy road on purpose?>nooooo its not a road its a heckin trailerino
>>29065963I'm bisexual so your insult means shit, suck my dick
>>29066469Male bisexuals are just gays who are cowards
>>29066473men are gay, women are lesbians, everyone lies about it
>>29066526Why are you gay
>>29066571I hate womenthey are evil and manipulative and always trying to get you in trouble over petty things
>>29066581Me too, and most men do to some extent, that does not make us seek out sexual relations with men
>>29066591you are missing outit's not really about sexit's not talking to men and being close and holding them
>>29066473I'm not a coward, life is a banquet and I'm going to sample it all. I'll fuck who I want, virgin.
>>29065318It's just exploringexploring is funyou didn't explore the woods when you were a kid? you can just keep exploring
>>29065318imagine you want to be in the woods but you're too fat and retarded to hike.
>>29067207it is but I don't like roads where you could easily get stuck or fall off the side of a mountainscenic parkways are great, horrible rutted out mudpits - not so much >>29067210that's what e-bikes are forwell, I mean, in reality, that's what ATVs are for and there's plenty of large boomers on those
>>29066761I'll leave you those weird sausages, I'd rather get some more peach pie, thanks.
>>29065318East coaster here. I have a 4th gen 4runner that I've been enjoying. I don't plan on getting it lifted but I've got some Falkans on it and I've been taking it up some mountain trails, I also took it out to the beach. Twenty years ago you had a lot more options but a few things have really fucked the situation for east coasters:1) Northerners moving down and buying up all the land. They are not part of the fabric of the communities and they put up no trespassing signs everywhere they can, install boulders to block you from parking on the shoulders and don't share any access to park or federal land unless legally forced to. I live near the Shenandoah park and an awesome trail runs up a mountain and links to the park but some rich fuck bought a strip of land and gated the road for no reason. This kind of shit is happening everywhere.2) It's just too popular. Too many guys are getting fully kitted rigs because they saw a few over landing videos and they are just itching to use them wherever they can so popular, well known trails are like a line at a Disney park. I guess you will always have help if you need it but I personally don't like crowds or lines or the public in general. 3) Offroad "culture" is full of destructive dipshits who love to "mud" and to create their own trails on land that isn't theirs. There were a ton of awesome trails in the wild life management areas near me but most had to be closed due to the destruction of the habitat because of people like this. Now you have to really hunt for places to go and keep them secret if you do find them because one whisper online will have a convoy of dipshits rolling through that next Saturday.
