>>29068378That's the single most untrue wives tales that come from boomers.I've rehabilitated countless slipping Hondas, 4L60E and even 4L80E just by changing fluid where said boomer owners were terrified to because they assumed the "debris" would destroy it.Never flush however, that much is true - just drain and fill, and change the filter if possible. If it's a "bad" transmission, toss some Lubegard or Lucas stop-slip snot in there, drive it for ~100 miles or so and drain + fill one more time. The 4L80 in picrel that wouldn't engage (bought off a boomer for a few hundred dollars during coof lol) ran perfectly after doing this two or three times or so, for instance. The ATF in there was black as used diesel oil.
Why doesn't anyone sell ATF with clutch material in it for worn transmissions?

>>29068552this, change the fluid, don't be a pussyit's a hydraulic system, it needs to have a pretty precise amount of fluid in it, if it doesn't get that it will act broken. it's natural for some of the fluid to escape over time and wear changes the way it reacts to changing temperatures so you need to replace some of the fluid occasionally always so that its physical properties stay consistent.fun fact: just a few teaspoons of fresh fluid is enough to restore the wear additive package in many kinds of oil, a full pan and filter replacement on a well used tranny is really all you need to do.
