40k and I'd like to buy a new-to-me "race" car. Current considerations are an evo 9 and an f80 m3. Am I retarded? What's objectively the best performance to dollar ratio at this price range; I frankly hate the Camaro and rwd/awd manual is a must (no wrong wheel drive junk, thanks). I currently run touge/some dirt roads in an e36 m3, got raped by an f82 and SS so looking to upgrade.
>>29069927Idk maybe a C6 corvette
B8 S4 with pulley and tune will run low 11s and cost half your budget
>>29069936Interesting rec and hadn't considered it. My impression of Audi has always been understeer and muted handling; is this an issue on the B8? What's the reliability like? I don't really care for straight line stuff DESU just touge. >>29069931I like the car but I live in nor cal and every idiot Mexican owns of these. I'll consider it, but I feel like it would get run by an evo in the mountains and loses to the m3 in terms of interior quality
>>29069951pre-facelift B8s had hydraulic steering and will feel better than anything electric. they do understeer like any other AWD car and most RWD cars but that can be mitigated decently with a beefy rear sway bar.
>>29069927Are you fucking retarded? Just turbocharge your E36, pretty much the only reason the F82/SS raped you (or you’re a bad driver kek)
>>29069927>raped by an f82 and SSThen get an f82 or SS?
>>29069927>Best Performance to Dollar >TougeEvo 8/9 would be good if you didn't live in California. Too much bullshit behind owning one there. CARB/Smog Compliance and stuff like headlights costing $1000 each and the parts getting rare. Consider a Evo X instead. Newer, cheaper, as fast, more common parts. Still the great suspension/steering Evos are known for. Honestly Evos are only capable Turbo 4WD for track use that aren't a R35 GTR or a STi with 2 motors on standby. VWs/Audis all handle like shit (either undertired or too fat). Evo magic has to do with good steering, strong transfer case/diffs (won't overheat/limp mode out like a Focus RS/GR Corolla), and ability to fit Corvette-sized tire fitment in a AWD car (important, only Subarus are capable of this, Audis in particular are limited by the size of their wheelwells). Another option is a ND MX5. Imagine your E36 M3 if it had a 30 year newer chassis. Supercharge or Turbo It. Or just drop a S54 and MK60 out of a crashed E46M in your E36. Just look at what people run in Gridlife for ideas.
>>290699278V RS3T. I own a 2018 Audi RS3.
>>29069995Whoops just saw manual was a must. Of you can suck it up and love with a dual clutch, it eats bmws for breakfast. And with a tune you can gain 75+hp.
>>29069927evo 9 is not a regular car, if you plan to drive it daily you will struggle
>>29069927Mazda is bringing back the FD pretty soon I'd hold out
>>29069995>RS3*throws up on your head*
>>29070137Are you a troll or a child?
>>29071222Fuck you I got cash in hand for a new FD or the new mr2 turbo. Fag!
>>29069973My S52 is burning an insane amount of oil I don't want to rebuild it>>29069991Thanks for the thoughtful post. The main reason I'm hesitant about the X is the purist hatred toward it. The 4b11 seems fine to me, but I haven't driven/lived with the 4g63 so I can't really compare the two. I live in a non-smog county so fortunately modding a IX won't be an issue. Interesting point about the GR Corolla tcase overheating, I hadn't heard of that. Honestly the GR was another consideration, but I don't really like the look and I'm worried they lack the analogue feeling that I love. >>29070014Don't need to use it as daily, only planning on track use. >>29070137Based on what JFL
>>29072710A HIGHly MODIFIED E90/E92 N54 335i will be faster than any car mentioned so farhttps://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/video-is-bimmerworlds-e90-bm/181337/page1/
>>29072727Not really all that euro shit is worthless. Besides nobody wants to be seen in some riced out rental car designed to appeal to jeets and darkoids, ricer
>>29072727Then I'd have to deal with N54 problems. Also somewhat agree with above; the E90 is pretty ugly. inb4 n55, another shit motor I'm afraid
>>29072710Honestly take a good look at your E36M:Is the body worn out? IE Does it still align properly, does it show symptoms of chassis fatigue/wear (check the attachment points on the body), does it have a fuckton of miles, do the doors shut nice, etc? On the flipside, is it a collectors special (<100k miles, mint, clean title, can get $20k+ for it) maybe its too nice to race?If it doesn't and you like how it drives, keep it. I don't think a Evo is dramatically better and I've owned both a 500whp Evo IX and a E36M. Look into sourcing a crashed E46 M3 and swapping it all over into your car. I think its more cost effective. Don't listen to the purists with IX vs X. In my opinion, there's nothing that the IX does to justify the $10k premium over a comparable X. The IX has collectors value and is aesthetically a better looking car. But the X is objectively the better powertrain (stock X head casting outflows Cosworth Stg 3 ported IX head + VVT on exhaust and intake vs just intake on IX), the better chassis (way stiffer with a +2-300lb weight gain, fits 275s vs 265s w/o a fender roll), has more parts availability and better rust proofing (important), and the engines are more available and not NLA for a shortblock. The only real issue with the Xs are fuel starvation. The older cars had better fuel tanks but I think the Xs hold up better to oil starvationI forgot, E90/92 M3 is a good option too. They're just heavy....not sure if I would take a Evo X over a E90/92 M3. Interestingly you can find the M3s for $20-25k more often. But if you find a $10-15k Evo X, keep it stock block stock turbo full boltons for 400-420~ whp, and do Ohlins/FA510s and 18x10 265s or 275s its hard to run away from one. You can also find a JDM 1-4 for <$20k. A 1-3 is a 2600-2700lb car that's retarded fast if you do full bolt ons on a stock 16G (think 320-350whp before the rods get spicy)...but they're tire limited (235s max)
>>29072754Evo IX vs X was a valid argument in 2015-20 when the cars cost within $2-5k. In the post-COVID era where at least in the Northeast USA a Evo IX is $22-28k and a Evo X is $14-20k...I'd rather get the cheap X than the rusty higher mileage IX. California might be different only because CARB forced a lot of them to stay stock, they don't rust in the desert, and they sold a lot of them brand new. I noticed you guys have cheaper 8/9s than the rest of the country that has to worry about the rear framerails falling apart. I wouldn't pay over $25k for a Evo 8/9 and I sold mine for $32k last year, lol.
>>29072730Delusions of a nocar>>29072735The LCI E90 isn’t that ugly, and N54 problems are HIGHly exaggerated
>>29072775>mcdonalds struts>auto only>plastic engineYea I'm thinking you're a ricer, take this shit to carmax or marketplace and get your money back lmao
>>29072776What the FUCK is a mcdonalds strtut? You mean MacPherson? Put some Respect on the name, sonE9Xs aren’t auto only, and the valve cover gasket is easy to change lolWhat are you, a tinywrench?
>>29072767https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-x-general/382141-evo-x-weight-parts.htmlForgot, the difference between a Evo IX and X is on average like 200lbs. For reference, a JDM IX RS is 2900lbs (1310-1320kg) and a JDM X RS is 3110lbs (1420kg). So 210lbs. US Spec is almost always heavier from all the cars having AC, Brembos instead of Gravel Spec Brakes, big heavy front/rear crash beams, side impact door beams, spare tires, etc. Those 200lbs gets you-A body that fits 295s without aftermarket spindles/trailing arms -A body that won't kill you in a side impact (look up 7-9s that got into t-bone accidents...usually always ends with the occupant getting seriously injured)-Better rust protection/rustproofing-Bigger rotors (350mm vs 320mm)-MIVEC on both cams-Stronger trans (I THINK)-Less weight up front (alum vs iron block)-Cheaper partsI think the IX just feels better from the less weight + worse rigidity. Like its faster than the previous (1-3 and 4-6) because it fits more tire (1-3 fits 225s max, 4 235s max, 5-6 255s max) but its not as heavy as the X. You can put up to 265s with a mild fender roll on a 7-9 and 275s-285s with creativity (read: a big hammer to the inner fenders, cutting the lip off the fenders instead of rolling it, and shaving the trailing arm) or Wisefab/SSB Designs drop spindles/trailing arm.
