Yes autos use planetary gearsets and have more teeth in contact at any given time, yet they still shit themselves at a 3x or 4x rate of a manual transmission. We had a 4.2 v6 that blew a head gasket at 298k miles. I looked into putting the trans in an older f150 because the windsors have the same interface as the 4.2 v6. However from what I was reading those manual transmissions are shitty enough to where a Windsor v8 would eventually kill it. Other manual transmissions may have better towing capacity when compared to the autos, but that one isn't one of them.
