Do tyres go bad from just sitting?I have the following problem. My current summer tyres are starting to show their age. I would like to keep my tyre size stock. There is a selection of new tyres in stock size but vast majority of them are either all terrains or muddies. My car came with stock Bridgestone H/T tyres and I like them. They are all I need as far as off-roading is concerned because I avoid doing any of it after rain.It seems that getting the exact same model of tyre is not possible where I live. I checked with all online retailers and local tyre shops with "Official Bridgestone dealer" local to me and there are none in stock.There are a bunch of people selling that exact model of car with less than <2000 kilometers on them because the first thing most buyers of my car did was upgrade to a more aggressive tread pattern.The only caveat is that all of these tyres have DOT codes between 2019 and 2022. SO they're of the same "vintage" as mine but their tread is pristine.My only other option would be some cheap Chinese trash which Is a no-go or an A/T tyre like Yoko Geolandars G015 or Cooper Discoverer A/T 3 Sport 2 but I'm terrified that these will be annoying to drive because of the noise.Offer me your wisdom.
>>29070623>Do tyres go bad from just sitting?Yes, they start to dry rot and just aren't safe at speeds above 25mph after like 10 years. Check the sidewalls and the shoulder of the TIRE looking for little cracks. They're fine until the cracks get really big and long and you're going fast.
The main reason why used tires are almost never worth it is their age. Even a 5 year old unused tire is going to be dried out and could have it's grip or durability compromised. My Nokian nAT's are very quiet on most surfaces even though they're super aggressive.
Yes rubber hardens and splits over time even without use. Much slower out of the sun. Even slower if they were vacuum sealed or coated in a protective chemical that doesn't degrade rubber for storage which nobody does.More aggressive tires have more protrusions for leverage to rip off destroying the tire. And being that asshole flinging rocks off the road into windshields behind them in the age of most cars having multiple cameras to see your license plate means tracking you down and suing you then playing the video of it happening in real time for small claims court is easy.

>>29070623It's mainly due to storing them badly. UV and ozone degrade rubber. I've stored them in my cellar, away from electrical energy and light. No visible degradation after many decades.t. boomer.

>>29070623Depends very much on how they're stored, how the carcass is constructed, and what you expect of them.I've run tires that were 50+ years old, but they had been stored under near ideal conditions, and were installed on vehicles that would never see modern highway speeds.If you're not doing much (if any) highway, and just using them for offroading/rock crawling, the "take offs" you mentioned should be plenty serviceable as long as they do not display signs of poor storage.
