My jap shitbox still has the original made-in-japan JB battery in it and at 7 years of age it passes a load test with flying colours and one of those electronic battery testers that measure voltage and internal resistance said the battery CCA rating is still 113% of nominal value. It's basically new from what I can see.It's mind boggling how deep is the chasm in quality between batteries put in cars at the factory and batteries you can buy at the dealership or at a store that sells batteries.This shit should be illegal.

I got one after my stock battery was over 5 years old. Yes, I baby my battery in winter but I drive an alfa 2 days a week where it can hit -20F and put it on a tender at night because of the stories of the battery and electrical system being iffy. So far, so good. I left it in the MSP parking lot for a week of -15F weather without a tender and it started like a champ, but I'll admit I was sweating like a whore in church.

15.8 volts is literally the 10% tolerance of 14.4v and automotive shit can handle at least up 18 or 20v in case of alternator regulator failure resulting in overvoltage

Anything connected to the car's 12 V supply needs to handle all kinds of voltage spikes and dips. It's not uncommon for the semiconductor regulators to be rated to survive 40+ volts.
