The ride of modern half tons are excelent. You're not going to get amazing handling out of something that tall. That's just an inherent limitation. If they have sidewall and IFS sure, they soak up bumps up front well (but not on the front with a solid front axle, or in the rear of all of them because of the solid axle upsetting the other side that didn't hit the bump). The drawbacks from having a non-independent suspension, stiff rear leaf spring rates for higher payload capacity, high center of gravity, and immense weight are inescapable however, not to mention them usually having wobbly steering that needs constant adjustment from the slow ratios and gearboxes that have inches of on center slop from the factory and aerodynamics of a brick penalizing fuel economy. Having also driven every generation Lexus LS, I'll take that every time. Older Escalades from before they started putting 22s and even 24s on them standard are close but otherwise there is simply no comparison.

The GM 6.0l gas engine and transmission pair from 08-14 was slextremely reliable and capable enough that I still tow regularly with mine pushing 360k miles and no major repairs ever. Its incredible. The generations following have consistently been plagued by the 6l90 transmission issue which basically kills all of them. I picked up a 2020 6.6l with 70k miles on it and sold that over my 2008 because things were already degrading. For gassers, I would really stick with the ford 6.2l and 6speed combo if you care about repairs or keeping your truck for a long time. I would also go ford 7.3 over gm 6.6 for both power and reliability. The conversation changes completely if you're going with diesel.
