https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/carmakers-have-a-new-idea-to-boost-ev-range-add-a-gas-engine-16bbcc34They finally did the 10+ year old meme. I never understood why they never did it. Simply put a generator on a car built in. How the actual fuck did it take until almost 2027 to do this. HOW FUCKING STUPID ARE HUMANS?It really boggles the mind. ai can't come save us from ourselves soon enuf
>>29080795i guess the main problem was human insisting to be 100% electric so they could pretend they were green
I always thought electric cars were cool but never understood the insistence of 100% electric and hybrid seems dumb too. Generators always seems logical to me.
ITT: right wing chuds spouting uninformed nonsense
>>29080824wow a derailment technique i love leftypol
N
I
>>29080795>They finally did the 10+ year old memeBMW i3 REX did this 10 years ago. The driveline is shit and batteries are dropping so fast in price anyways. Keep up tourist.
I'm sick of the journalism bullshit term "range anxiety" as if a car buyer is insecure about their penis or something and it's not the evs across the board have at best 60% of the range of an equivalent gas model in perfect conditions. If I can't comfortably make it to my destination on one full charge an EV requires me to pay for a hotel room whereas the gas car takes 5 minutes to get back on the road
>>29081306You need a hotel room for a 30min charge? If I take a piss and get a coffee, the charging is finished before Im ready to drive again. It's not like you have to watch the electrons flow into your battery...
>>29080809I like how people think pic related is some kind of an own. Even if the total amount of pollution is the same, it's still a net positive to move it away from where people live and breathe.
>>29081353>30 minutes to piss and coffee in the middle of a long drive
>>29081456It's also false in that even the worst sources of electricity still generate less pollution than ICE car. Reminder that the ICE has a waste percentage of 70% of all gas you pour into it. 70% is just heat. Atleast almost all gas used as electricity becomes electricity.
>>29081288Chevrolet Bolt also did it in 2011. It's telling that people think it's a new idea due to how irrelevant it was in the past decade. Same for hydrogen fuel cells that also promise longer range and quick refills. Nobody actually wants that stuff.
>>29081456>away from where people live and breathe. That's exactly like saying to someone pissing in the pool next to you to swim to the other side of the pool and piss there. It's the same pool.
>>29081306thisi don't buy cars that get single digit mpg why would i buy an ev that has half the range of my gasoline car?
>>29080795So, they are turning EVs into hybrids basically? lol
>>29081611ev = 100% electrichybrid or phev = wheels driven by gas motor + electric motorserev = wheels driven by electric only + gas generatorthis paywalled, the archive link isnt working for some reason
It's not a new idea. China already has tons of range extended evs.
>>29081634yeah, chevy volt did it like someone said earlier too. But, for some strange reason the industry was digging their heels in to not do it again. It's just bizarre.
>>29081585>why would i buy an ev that has half the range of my gasoline car?Your high mpg shitbox is as fraction as nice and comfortable to drive as an EV. And never needing to visit a gas station to give money to arab pedos is a luxury.
>>29081578No, it's not exactly like that
>>29081649Because they didn't sell, just like FCEV. Parallel PHEV are doing a bit better but are still niche. Pure BEV are enough for the people interested in EV seeing as the ranges are enough for their daily needs and chargers available everywhere. Meanwhile the people insisting they drive megametres every week still buy pure ICE or hybrids without charger because plugging their cars is abhorrent for them.
>>29081578And when it is a lake?
>>29081634>China
>>29081578Except if you are on the other sides of the pool, his piss will stay around him
>>29081812>>29081737But, it's not piss is it? It's poison. Do you want poison in your lake or ocean? Does it matter where it's released? It will get to you eventually.
>>29081817would you rather have highly concentrated poison right next to you, or highly diluted poison everywhere?the process which produces the diluted poison also generates less overall.
>>29081820>would you rather have highly concentrated poison right next to you, or highly diluted poison everywhere?>the process which produces the diluted poison also generates less overall. My point is that moving pollution from one side of the world to the other isn't solving a problem. It's changing who is affected. And I guess if it only hurts brown people the problem is solved. So let's keep doing it.
>>29081836You're not just moving the pollution, you're also creating less of it by virtue of using highly efficient power plants that can also do more to clean up their emissions.
>>29081836Nice misinfographic. I like how it's worded to mislead the reader by subtly hiding the real claim inside what looks like a grammatical error, instead of explicitly calling out sulphur oxides, which is a complete straw man argument when it comes to cars.>>29080809well-to-wheel efficiency of gas is like 15% vs 25% for an EV.
>>29081836>It's changing who is affected.Who lives next to a power plant? Certainly less than people live, work and breath inside cities.
>>29080809This but let's reframe itThe real problem with humans is their performative nature
>>29080795>Simply put a generator on a car built in.Isn't this what Nissan's e-Power deal is all about?
Like with most things in the EV world, Alan Cocconi perfected this in the 90s only for it to be thrown away until some auto manufacturer "invents" it again 30 years later (see also vehicle to grid). I also have blueprints for a series hybrid from the 1970s. This is old hat, especially if you consider the Volt could reasonably be called a series hybrid, news is just being retarded as usual.
>>29082407e-power is a series hybrid but you have no way to charge the battery aside from the engine so it's not a real range extender. Hybrids themselves have been used as far back as WW1.
>>29080795>Not using this onehttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=esLw_-NHeLc
>>29080795A gas generator can fully charge an EV battery on 1-2 gallons of gas, it just takes like 16 hours. But you get more efficient mileage than a gas engine alone.
