What's the point of this brand? They've felt like an also-ran compared to Cadillac for their entire history, and especially the last 30 years of cars they've made feel even more like tarted up rebadged Fords than Cadillacs do with Chevy, a consitently recurring complaint with them. It doesn't feel like Ford cares about Lincoln or puts any effort into their products either. Where the fuck is the V8 in the Navigator, for example? Or a halo car for people to aspire to like the CT5-V Blackwing?

It's for people who want a luxury car to focus on pure luxury and don't care about the "driving experience" like Cadillac does but the people who buy Lincoln also cant afford something like a true ultra luxury experience like a Bentley; that's why they buy Lincoln.

They're kind of like Buick at this point, in that they mostly exist just to serve the Chinese market hence why their US-market cars are afterthoughts, such as the Navigator with a base pickup truck V6 (while the Escalade has multiple V8s) or the literally Chinese-produced Nautilus.
Their only sedan they produce, a spiritual successor to the MKZ, isn't even sold to Americans and is primarily for the Chinese market (yes, there's a platform-shared nu-Taurus that Americans don't get, either).

Lincoln sold twice as many Nautilus's in 2025 than Cadillac sold CT5s of any trim. Its a volume luxury SUV brand based on existing Ford models and doesn't need a halo car to move sufficient units when those already exist under the Ford nameplate.

>where the fuck is the V8 in the Navigator

Given the catastrophic failures of 6.2 V8s they were right to stick with ecoboost V6s. I've driven the Expedition with the same engine and it does well to get out of its own way even if the exhaust note is lame.

Its one of the few luxury brands that still focuses on elegance, materials and build quality rather than "sporty" handling and technology overload. Unfortunately this attracts a very old buyer demographic and the newer ones embraced the giant screens but they are still well put together and dont make you look like every other tech bro or soccer mom in a BMW or Audi.

T. Just bought a 2022 Aviator, you can still see the Ford Explorer in some areas but it has a lovely ride on air suspension, great 28 speaker stereo and heavy sound deadening with thicker glass for a peaceful and isolated driving experience.

It hasn't had a reason for existence since Edsel Ford died (1943). Henry bought Lincoln to give Edsel an outlet for his effete tendencies such as using colors other than black on cars and thinking cars should have style instead of looking like a farm implement.

Lincoln has remained largely rudderless since except for a brief period in the 70's when HFII liked the kind of cars that Lincoln made at the time. This renaissance lasted until the mid 80's and sputtered out by 1990. Since then Ford has basically refused to spend the kind of money it would take to recruit the talent and buy the resources necessary to get the brand where it should be. As an example about 10 years ago Ford made a crowing announcement that they were going to spend a whole 5 billion dollars on Lincoln to revitalize the brand and its' stores. Consider that at the time a single Ford product launch easily cost that much and here they were trying to convince people that it would remake a whole brand.

Nope, Lincoln's a dead brand walking and I can only assume the reason they haven't shuttered the whole thing yet is they'd have to buy out Lincoln dealers.

If GM can make a profit up fitting Malibu's and suburbans, why can't Ford, I dunno, just make luxury cars?

Providing the "free luxury upgrade" for car rental places, and making coffin cars that ungrateful grandchildren will inherit, and wish grandpa bought a Mercades-Benz with his union pension instead.
They used to be the Old Money to Cadillac's Nouveau Riche, going for very conservative classical styling rather than Cadillac's modern styling, and for being able to, for the most part, preserve that style and their level of luxuriousness while Cadillac was busy watering its brand down, to the point that the Town Car was a very solid luxury vehicle for its entire product lifespan. Unfortunately now every car has to look exactly the same, and, as the gay furry put it, "old money doesn't buy American [cars]" so now Lincoln only has fleet sales and old people to rely on.

Ford DOES make luxury cars, or rather, luxury trucks. Those six-figure platinum trim king-ranch with cheese F1, 2, and 350s are the status symbol for the well-heeled welder and middle-aged bank manager who needs to feel like a rugged tough guy. Unfortunately Lincoln, with it's focus on the more traditionally luxurious aspects doesn't really gel with trucks. They tried to do a luxury truck twice, and neither did sold particularly well.

>why can't Ford, I dunno, just make luxury cars?
As far as Lincoln is concerned, any Ford with the Titanium package is essentially the same as a Lincoln in content so there's no reason to pay 10K more for a lightly restyled Ford with Lincoln badges glued on.

As far as REAL luxury cars are concerned nobody that buys such cars would be caught dead in a mere Ford (or Chevrolet, or Dodge, or Hyundai.). And that leaves aside the issue of whether a down-market mass manufacturer could even begin to get the right mindset to know what proper luxury even is let alone produce something competitive in that market.

I actually like this thing. Not enough to want to buy one though.

>Ford DOES make luxury cars, or rather, luxury trucks
The big 3 all make luxury trucks. I think Dodge was close to winning some luxury car of the year award with whatever their trim level is for the tarted up leather thing. I get it, I've been in many of them because they are in fact luxury trucks.
Which again, they already know how to do Luxury. Why can't they translate that better into the Lincolns? Its like the managing boss over Lincoln just looks at a leater seated Explorer adding chrome and wood thinks "yeah, that'll do, stop there" instead of trying something different or good. I get it though, its so difficult with how manufacturing has progressed. A $60,000 vehicle with a top level trim is where an S-class was 20 years ago. S-classes are basically nowhere to be seen other than over the top waste and autistic gizmos nobody cares about for over double the price.

I really liked the last Continental and was disappointed Ford deliberately stopped selling cars other than the Mustang. But I do have hope in that with newer generations hating SUVs and egg-shaped cars maybe OEMs will catch on and deviate from them. Either go back to boxy, or make cars again.

good luck with that cabin air filter hoss =P

Lincoln is for chuds
Cadillac is for Chads

Ford got pissy that caddy was doing great and went full petty in an attempt to dethrone America's greatest car brand (cadillac)

It only worked in the late 70s with the continental. Aside from that. There's nothing of worth made by the President Brand.

The Aviator has its filter right behind the glove box, same as the Explorer. Only the MKZ and Continental sedans required you to tear about the interior to access them.

>They're kind of like Buick at this point, in that they mostly exist just to serve the Chinese market

Kinda funny how you guys are about 10 years late on these smug statements. Basically all foreign manufacture cars that were previously seen as luxury status symbols have dropped in sales by like 90%. China caught up in manufacturing, automaking, and domestic luxury goods that are just as good (tm) and cheaper which is what led to the dramatic fall in sales from foreign luxury such as Merc, BMW, Lincoln, Buick, etc.

Lincoln had a leg over Cadillac in the 70s and especially the 80s.

As far as crossovers go, the lincoln models look pretty good exterior wise.
I can't say the same about their powertrains or interior styling.
