I just got nokian hakkapelitta r5 put on my ranger worktruck that I drive long distances In northern Canada. I've found they're one of the only really soft winter tires that do good in -40'c that still take a long time to wear out.

am I the only one that thinks blizzaks are the most overrated tire for their application? they're pretty good in snow/ice but utter dogshit in every other condition imaginable, as well as loud as fuck, and as some other anon said their grip in snow/ice drops quickly with wearswitched to cross climate 2's last year and they're, I don't know, slightly less grippy in ice? identical performance in snow? and way, WAY better in norma/cold dry and wet, as well as quieter
I saved a bit of money and got Vredestein Wintrac Pro XLs about 3 years ago. Been very happy with them. It's not like I'm out there pushing the limit in the cold, anyway.

The southern parts of the DPRNY can get 4 seasons in a week, so dedicated winters aren't worth it. I use CC2's like >>29087292 does. They aren't that great when it's hot.

Pretty cheap (under $200 each installed at Costco) and they saved my ass on black ice a couple of times last winter, though we had a pretty pathetic season overall so they didn't get tested much. I run Wildpeak AT3Ws the rest of the year and chose them because they had some of the best winter test results, and they're fine on deep snow but absolutely lethal on ice. Places like Iceland and the Scandi countries might get away with it better because snow stays on the roads all winter instead of constantly freezing and thawing like the western US does.

I used to run winter and summer tires, but then I got the pilot sport 4 all seasons and they are hilariously better in snow than Nexen Winguard 2 tires, and who the fuck is buying the actual nice winter tires unless they live in alberta or some shit. I'll just stick with all seasons from now on.
