Agreed. I got rid of the last of my "new" cars and only have old cars in my possession now. Never been happier.

My '99 sedan has:
>airbags
>ABS
>AC
>power steering
>radio
>cruise control
>good suspension
>RWD
>LSD
>2.3 ton tow hitch

I cannot think of anything else I could need. A modern, reasonably priced sedan's advantages:
>better mileage (~7 L/100km vs 10)
>less wear and tear
>GPS (I don't use it)

Its disadvantages:
>computer nanny that beeps at me
>touchscreen instead of real buttons to do everything
>lane assist / auto-braking
>traction control (if toggleable, it WILL switch it back on if I turn it off)
>cost/complexity of fixing anything when it breaks
>electric power steering
>throttle by wire
>no handbrake/gearstick lever

I said it when I was broke, I'd not buy a new car even if I could. Now I have money, and I didn't and I won't.

I wouldn't rule buying a 2010-2014 car out, but I also don't see why I'd want one over a 1998-2002 car except for the fact it's newer (and thus less full of rust and bodged repairs)
For the moment my '99 is still very reliable so I'd not bother
