Got hit yesterday by a guy for the first time. Don't know if anyone remembers but I just got my licence and bought a brand new Suzuki GSX8T.Thank God, I got nothing but slight pain on my right foot. Classic lane splitting crash, I reach the guy's level and see that he turned his signal whithout checking his mirrors. Tried avoiding him and hoping he would see me by the time he would be half on the left lane but no. He hit me and I fell on the ground in a pretty nice comfy way. My poor bike though. First accident on a motorcycle.

If you want some practice, try riding with one of your friends on the back in the parking lot. Its even easier when she's smol and light. While getting her down from the bike, be careful, also when getting on the bike. Put the side stand on, in both cases. As for the luggage, get a top box or panniers, if not panniers, just get a set of softbags instead of panniers. If you want to carry more stuff than that, tie a waterproof bag over your top box with bungee cords. ADVs are very helpful in this case, but if not an ADV, see if you can rent an ADV with top box and panniers.I travelled with my dad on the back for 300km on my sports bike and it was miserable. But I have travelled longer on my GS with luggage and a much heavier friend and it was nothing.

Low speed maneuvers are such a perishable skill. This season I practiced for months at the beginning to do a motogymkhana day with a friend of mine, and it was a ton of fun. I didn't practice low speed after that, though. Today I got out into the lot to practice and could hardly keep a u-turn within two parking spaces of width. Really surprised me. I ride at least once a week, usually twice a week, but just normal commuting and twisties.
