I'm getting older and I want a sport-tourer. I'm considering a Tracer 7 because I live in Europe and they are available. I'm very tempted to buy the y-amt one because I know I'm not changing as fast as the automated shift. Do you think there's going to be reliability problems?

I'd be sure of any automatic transmissions since on motorcycles they're of trivial importance unless you have foot or leg damage. What do Honda techs think of them? There is no substitute for the informed opinion of experienced techs, preferably those who disassembled the system in question (unless those fail so rarely in proportion to sales break rates are nil). Honda make some outstanding machinery so they may simply not shit the bed.

MG used to be a very weird niche brands for many many many many years. Then they got bought out by Aprilia another niche niche niche company. Both were notoriously unreliable, known for dodgy QC and parts were difficult yo get. When they worked they were good but you had to get them to work.

Moto Guzzi as in pre 90s Moto Guzzi were fairly simple and straightforward heavy bikes.
There wasn't much to go wrong with them really because they were so archaic in design.
Ironically everything went wrong with my 1987 California 3, went through 3 sets of lifters right off the bat, doing the timing belt was a bitch of a job too because the italians loctited everything tight as fuck at the factory.

My problems might've first been due to previous owners neglect, second due to me using the wrong oils and thirdly due to shoddy aftermarket parts quality.

I ride a 650 and my insurance is fairly high, just under 700€ a year. Shopped around and the best offer I found was about 30€ above what I was already paying. Right now I'm in a family offer with my father that let me inherit his driver class, because without it as a newbie the best offers were around 1200€. I've been riding for over 2 years since.
The insurance company told me that 600s are more expensive to insure compared to 1000s because all the maxiscooter riders with T-Maxes keep crashing. But I find it odd that the actuaries would just group by displacement and not be more granular if they saw a trend. I'm in Italy lol, so the crashes are definitely happening.

The only bike I didn't like was the Moto Guzzi, everything else was pretty neat back in the day.
Oh yeah that Hurricane was turbocharged, ran like shit, but once you hit boost, you were going to see some shit, mostly the ditches or the sky because it lost all traction at the rear wheel.

I've worked on many (multibrand owner and mechanic since the '70s) and still own a 1969 Triumph Trident and 1970 Norton Commando with front drums for originality NOT performance. Planning stops with a calendar is an accurate way to describe front drum limitations. Drums are even weak on small light Japanese two strokes like my old Suzuki Titan (fun beast if you can find one) and early RD Yamahas.

All brake performance is testable and measurable by placing a mark or object of choice on the road to ensure the same brake application point for each max braking application so it's easy to test upgrades. The thickest least stretchy cable available is wise. The rounder the drum ID and the more precisely your shoes conform to the entire drum over each. You can true drums with wheels assembled or have it done.

Vintage shops offer the service but for removable drums that don't require truing on an assembled wheel any shop with a lathe can do the work quick and cheap. Youtube has vids of self-built truing rigs. After truing the brake shoes should be arc ground for full contact with the drum.

Search "motorcycle brake shoe arc grinding" on Youtube if interested as many home gamers build their own tools for this. Have fun!

What do you mean importing to the EU? The M-72 is Soviet, so it most probably has spread all over EU by now after the dissolving of the USSR.
M-72 were originally military only bikes and the frame for government/military bikes in the Soviet Union was considered a replaceable part, so they don't necessarily have a frame number.

That being said, good luck trying to find an M-72 for under 2 grand in general, they're quite sought after.
A KMZ M-72 is probably the cheapest and easiest to find, IMZ ones being more valuable amongst collectors, with MMZ and ZIS models being the most sought after. A ZIS frame alone could run you a full bikes price.
