New enough to look like you're not a poorfag, cheap, and reasonable power. I DD'd a m235i and had no issues with it, but rats tried eating the wiring harness eventually (made from so-y) and I think the 4-cylinders are less reliable now that they're aging. The 4-cylinder handles much better though. I'd probably go for the Chevrolet SS, not ludicrously expensive and it should appreciate in value over time and it checks all of your boxes. You could keep it long-term as a family car too even if you decide to branch out into sports cars later.

You can get a good condition 1970s or 1980s 2101 model (mechanically the same as the final model) for 500k ₽, no clue about the value in dollars, but I believe 1 ₽ is a cent, in which case USD 5000.As a rule 2101 is what you want to look mature, 2102 can also fit if an estate is desired. 2103 is fine too. Anything afterwards is a bit less stylish in terms of appearance. Checking Drom, a few 2106s look decent, but they command more money.The alternative would be a Volga, which is just as easy to maintain depending on the generation. First generation can go down into the 2101 prices, but that is risking it, if you seek quality. Second gen Volga is 600k on average for a good one, anything after is 300-500k, except for the rare 3111, which you may expect Victory prices for, or around 1m). Volga is preferred to Zhiguli in curb appeal, but you are more likely to find Zhiguli parts and donor cars which will help in acquiring cheap body panels and so forth, if the need arises. Combi, classic Moscvich and Zaporzhets are options too but harder to maintain and are below a Zhiguli in certain ways.As nice as they look, Aquila is FWD, not sure if you want that. Also parts will be a pain since TagAz is no more and Aquila was made for maybe 2 years or something like that. I exclude imports because of the pain it can be getting spare parts, but Ssangyong Chairman is my choice if you can find them. They are rare, but underneath it is a Mercedes, a W124, to be exact. New is perhaps Skoda, I know grey imports are out there, so maybe an Octavia with the 6MT.
