These things need to be fucking banned. They require no insurance, no registration, no plate, not even a driver's license. All they do is slow down traffic to 25mph wherever they go and when you tell them to get on the sidewalk WHERE THEY BELONG they just start speeding and killing grandmas. These retarded non transporters are nothing but a menace, making tons of noise and pollution, creating congestion on the road, and killing our elderly mothers and fathers. Why are they allowed?
1 - There's already a thread about this at the top of the catalog.2 - My innawoods ass has never seen one.3 - Riding even manual bicycles on sidewalks is generally illegal. It shouldn't be that way, I ride mine on sidewalks because it's safer, but the law says bicycles (and I presume by extension e-bikes) are road-only.
>>29100212Bicycles do NOT belong in the road.
>>29100219I very much agree. But that's the law in most places. My state has it at state-level that bicycles can't be on sidewalks (picrel). There's an actual bike lane on the road nearest me, but I ride ~10 feet away in the grass because it's safer. Haven't ridden my bike in 2 years, but I still wouldn't go on a road other than rural places where you see a car maybe every 10 minutes.
Don't civilized places usually have separate bicycle lanes or even a separate road network for these things?I have occasionally had to make a little room for someone bicycling on the side of a country road, but those people usually have the common sense to stay as far away from the cars as possible.
>>29100234No, most civilized places don't rip up the entire road network because some retarded 15 minute city shill is obsessed with the d*tch
>>29100234>I have occasionally had to make a little room for someone bicycling on the side of a country road,Case in point. They are blocking traffic. Just run them over.
>>29100208Avoiding the government is based.

>>29100208Im fine with the 250w ones. The 750w+ ones on my comfy forest walking bath make my blood boil. Fucking kids flying by me and my dog at 30mph+
>>29100434i have a 650w model and it does not do 30mph. maybe on a downhill it would but so would a normal bicycle
>>29100208if you live in a urban area that's dense enough to be 30mph or lower speed limit everywhere, or a suburban area with good bike lanes, then e-bikes/scooters/unicycles are the best transportation
>>29100232they should have their own "lane" to keep them out of my way when im walking or driving
>>29100643Sounds like communism to me.
>>29100212>the law says bicycles (and I presume by extension e-bikes) are road-only.That varies by USA state and then to a finer degree by USA city. My state has bicycle laws that state bicycles and e-bikes are legal on sidewalks unless local ordinances limit them. As it turns out, my city has explicit laws that says bicycles and e-bikes are legal on sidewalks by default unless otherwise prohibited. Of course, my state defines e-bikes are subject to bicycle laws as long as they are:-=-=- Not more than 750 watts-=-=- Meet and do not exceed limits of Class 1, 2,,3.-=-=- Have working pedal drive system and are electric motor-assisted.Other electric 2-wheeled vehicles are not e-bikes and require the vehicle to be license, a valid operator permit, and vehicle insurance. Those vehicles are not allowed on sidewalks and most trails where either pedestrians or bicycles are allowed. Those vehicles are explcitly NOT allowed on trails and public mountain bike paths. Thus, all those 1000 watt ebikes are not legally classed as ebikes in my state. They are emotos aka e-moto.

>>29100208>These things need to be fucking banned.>Why are they allowed? No, Ebikes have a place and do not need banning. They are a great boon to elderly and to people who live in hilly areas and need motor assistance. The problems come from a tiny minority of riders that are irresponsible assholes on the ebikes. They need to be ticketed, but the police are never around like in the old days due to budget cuts (patrol emphasis programs cut or eliminated) or "Green Initiatives" to reduce patrolling because that causes carbon emissions. My city suffered from both due to the city council listening to the activists in 2020 due to George Floyd events causing a lot of anti-police emotions. The assholes don't get tickets, so they ride irresponsibly.

>>29101132>i am merely an incompetent rider with bad throttle controlYour motor controller module is supposed to accept the variable resistance input from the thumb throttle. Did you buy some TEMU throttle that was merely an on/off switch? Or is the impedance level wrong for your throttle? That is, if you put your ebike together as a DIY unit, you might have bought a motor controller that expects a throttle range of 1 to 4800 ohms, but your throttle switch is some alibaba temu thing that ranges 1 to 220 ohms. So it's basically on/off in appearance to your motor controller. You can fix that problem without buying a new throttle by using an impedance bridge and putting your throttle (which is basically a potentiometer) in that bridge. The output range of that bridge would span the range, but of course be a bit twitchy as you are upscaling your existing potentiometer's resistance with that bridge hack.

>>29100208>Why are they allowed?Bicycles are allowed on most public roads as long as it is not a controlled access road or the road has a minimum required speed. Bicycles are also allowed on roads in which local governments accepted federal money to improve the road for bicycle usage. Unfortunately, many cities took the money and only did "lip service" for bicycle improvements. My city is one such. The improvement was basically to stencil a bicycle symbol on the asphalt pavement and to put up a very occasional tiny roadside sign with the text "Share The Road" along with a small bicycle symbol. The majority of the federal road money was probably then put into the general fund in order to pay social welfare costs of handling homeless and drug addicts along with anti-discrimination costs of providing extra services to certain areas of chronic repair needs due to constant vandalism or destruction of public infrastructure.
>>29100208Posts about bicycles and cycling should be on transportation >>/n/
>>29101398it was a joke. my bike does not have the necessary power to wheelie and i am in fact a mediocre (and thus WELL above average) rider whomst am capable of adequate throttle control.

>>29101126that guy died
>>29102919he did? post vidya
>>29102913>It's illegal to use a sidewalkOnly in some places. A large number of states have default rules about allowing bicycles on sidewalks, and leaves it to local cities to prohibit them. My state does. Since my city and the adjoining three cities also allow bicycles on sidewalks, this means that ebikes within the bicycle definition are also allowed. The only limit on bicycles is that pedestrians always have the right of way on the sidewalk or parking lot.

>>29103202>What happens when you enforce cyclists to not ride on sidewalks
If cyclists are too slow and block all the traffic, then why don't we simply encourage them to attach small motors to their bikes? A gas engine might prove too heavy or ponderous for novice riders, are electric motors good enough yet to fit on a bike and provide enough power?
>>29103223We tried that approach, however this makes idiots in cars mald and karens asking for the manager.
>>29103223>what if they put a motor on them? The thread is specifically about bikes with electric motors in them. Look at the OP, it’s got a lithium pack under the seat and a 500W motor. They’re apparently becoming a problem to city folk. >>29100208>These things need to be fucking banned.Only because those black kids that used to ride regular bikes managed to steal enough ebikes to now clown around on them. And give ebikes a bad name because no one here was able to blame the black kids for being the vast majority of the problem with ebikes. Picture: Claw method to knock an ebike rider off their bike. Most casual people have a drastic reaction, so a sucker claw across the eyes and face makes them jerk and fall off. The thief then abandons their cheap bike, hops onto the ebike, and rides it off.
>>29101553>The majority of the federal road money was probably then put into the general fund in order to pay social welfare costs of handling homeless and drug addicts along with anti-discrimination costs of providing extra services to certain areas of chronic repair needs due to constant vandalism or destruction of public infrastructure. The general fund is newly issued money. They don't need to take it from somewhere else in order to have it.
>>29103813They took the federal money and did very little "bicycle oriented" activity with it. The city claimed a lot of bicycle routes by simply stenciling a small bicycle symbol on the right lane of many roads. Some of these roads are still TRULY UNUABLE for bicycles because they are busy arterials where cars drive 35MPG to 45MPH on them. Very occasionally I've driven past bicyclists trying to prove their usual point (in an obnoxious way) by riding in the lane causing huge traffic jams. But generally it is too dangerous to ride a bike on these. But the city satisfied the various checklist criteria like add bike paths to existing major roads. The city built bike paths to nowhere by having paths to and from City Hall into the residential areas. As if anyone uses those paths and no one does, but that satisfied the build all new paths requirements. The city put those useless paths there because the land was available and thus took away no lane space from existing significant roads.Video: It was claimed by the bicyclist's family that the car driver was at fault.

>>29103961To be clear. I don’t think the car was responsible at all. You shouldn’t have to clear to the right on a green left turn. It’s smart to do so however.
